Anyone following the results? So far, Leave seems to be slightly ahead, but only a sliver of localities have reported.

A bit distracted lately, I didn't follow the campaign as attentively as I'd have liked. I wonder if the Remain team ever deployed what I would have considered its strongest talking point: "You know, if we leave, we'll prove De Gaulle right!"

Interestingly, the vote isn't legally binding, at least according to The Guardian.

the largest reason for leaving seems to be the immigration/welfare state one.

apparently with Britain in the eu, it is easier for people in any of the 28 or so member nations to migrate there, get jobs, start to receive benefits etc, and the "leaving" citizenry" are saying its "too much."

Greta75 -> RE: Brexit Vote Results (6/23/2016 6:06:58 PM)

Yup, Britain wants more control over immigration.
It would be interesting to see what the people's choice is.

On another note, I am glad Obama wasn't able to save something like multi-millions of illegals from being deported!

I don't even understand why he is trying to keep illegal immigrants.

Perhaps, it's something I really don't understand coming from a country where I am pretty sure, all our citizens in united in, not wanting illegals in our country.

If our PM tried to pardon illegals, we'd be like, WTF? Is he the PM of the illegals or is he the PM of OUR country?

Interesting article. Thanks, DC.

The idea that the referendum isn't binding certainly is interesting.

    quote:

The simple answer to the question as to whether the EU referendum is legally binding is “no”. In theory, in the event of a vote to leave the EU, David Cameron, who opposes Brexit, could decide to ignore the will of the people and put the question to MPs banking on a majority deciding to remain.
This is because parliament is sovereign and referendums are generally not binding in the UK.

What are UKadians going to do if the will of the people is for Brexit, but Cameron and the MP's ignore the will of the people and maintain EU membership?

That rectal orifice has already said as much as he has no intention of abiding by the Supreme Court ruling.

We don't see it that way. His not paid to look out of the welfare and interest of illegal immigrants. We pay our Ministers multi-millions per annum in salaries, so they are paid to look out for their own citizens. If he wanted to look out for illegal immigrants best interest, then I suggest he refunds us his salary, and go ahead and take care of them. And get his salary from them.

I mean, this is exactly how we would see it.

That is correct, only Parliament can abrogate a treaty.

In the name of democracy, Parliament should respect majority people's choice.

Since when has that third world shithole called singapore had a problem with people trying to sneek in? I remember posting link showing that the poor were trying to leave but could not afford it.

In the name of democracy,

You have told us repeatedly how much you despise democracy and how much you love the nazi like dictatorship of that third world shithole called singapore. So why this plea for democracy that you hate?

Parliament should respect majority people's choice.

Is that their job?

ThatDizzyChick -> RE: Brexit Vote Results (6/23/2016 7:29:44 PM)

The UK is not a democracy, it is a parliamentary monarchy. There are some democratic elements in it's constitution, but in the end it is a monarchy and the Crown is supreme.

Thompson, stop being retarded 70% voted for our form of benevolent dictatorship. So it's still democracy. We voted for their style of governance. It's the people's choice. That's why I encourage the parliament to respect people's choice. Our parliament always respect people's choice.
The benevolent dictator won his elections fair and square from being a nobody, a new party, from winning hearts and minds of people to get voted in.

And till today, after his death, majority still prefer his party, that's what it is, until another brilliant chap runs for election again, maybe we'd vote for someone else.

The queen definitely has lots of theoretical power, but I'm not sure how much of it she could truly exercise freely in 2016. I think the last monarch actually to veto legislation was Queen Anne.

George V did help the Commons subdue the Lords by threatening to swamp the "upper" house with new peers if they didn't pass the Liberals' budget.

I've read that Elizabeth II warned Antony Eden about the folly of Suez, but I don't if that's more than speculation, since HM and PM meet privately.

Public disagreement with the government is illegal isnt't it?

Is that what they believe in idaho?

And till today, after his death, majority still prefer his party,

Isn't that because it is illegal to oppose it?

that's what it is, until another brilliant chap runs for election again, maybe we'd vote for someone else.

Perhaps you might petition the donald to take up the holy scepter.

Pound falls to lowest in 30 years.
