Global warming causes jet streams

what? the everliving fuck?

blnymph -> RE: Who is ready for some global warming? (1/7/2017 11:49:02 AM)

To sum up about polar jetstreams:

Jet streams are caused by earth rotation and temperature differences.

They move more or less in wave lines over the northern (and in a kind of mirror image over the southern) hemisphere.

The way they rapidly transfer cold arctic air southward is one of the major influences of winter weather, snowfall intensity, storms etc.

Where these jetstreams hit land over northern America, Europe, northern Asia makes a lot of difference in regional distribution of cold arctic air, and snowfall.

While the Rocky Mountains running N-S do not block the arctic jet streams reaching out far south the European mountain ranges of Pyrenees-Alps-Carpathians spreading W-E usually block the spread of arctic jet streams, wherever they meet this barrier, to the mediterranean basin. So due to geography there usually is a more predictable N/S divide in winter temperatures, snowfall etc. on our side of the pond than on yours.

Circumpolar as well as tropic jetstreams have been more or less constant over longer time periods; this seems to change, maybe linked to the change in oceanic currents like the Labrador and Gulf stream or El nino/El nina.

Are you sure? How many snowfalls happened in London since 1991, resp. 2000 when that article was published? How much did they get, how long did it stay?

In south Florida we used to get overnight freeze warnings and damn cold mornings . . . . not in the last two decades. Big change.

http://www.local10.com/news/south-florida-rises-to-record-low-temperatures

http://miami.cbslocal.com/2011/01/01/coldest-december-ever-in-south-florida/

Of course, a record low in Florida is not the same as a record low in the frozen Northeast. According to the weather service, the mean monthly average for Ft. Lauderdale in December was 60.4 degrees. That breaks the previous record of 62.2 degrees set in December 1935.

In Miami, the average mean temperature in December was 61.4 degrees, which also breaks the record for December 1935, which was 62.1 in Miami.

All it takes is one to shoot down the false alt left "End Of Snow" narrative

Deadly arctic blast snow storm kills dozens across Europe as cold snap to hit the UK within DAYS

You are a moron. The end of snow means the end of snow.

Musicmystery -> RE: Who is ready for some global warming? (1/9/2017 6:56:39 PM)

OK. Then why is it in a global warming thread?

Literally, kids are taught the difference between weather (that's what snow is) and climate (global warming is a climate issue, not today's highs) in elementary school.

You have the name-calling part of being a school child down. But it doesn't make you any more accurate.

blnymph -> RE: Who is ready for some global warming? (1/10/2017 12:47:49 AM)

Polar jetstream transporting cold air south was/still is normal.

First such event occuring in January instead of November is not.
