Alright, due to circumstances beyond my control (primirily the local cable company I used to subscribe to did not carry BBC America on a package I wanted, and I refuse to pay for 50 channels I will not watch) I basically lost track of Dr. Who after the Wedding of River Song.

Now, thanks to the Dr. Who take over, I am sorta caught up.

However.....

WTF happened to River Song and why dont she remember she is married to the doctor?

So he didn't blow Gallifray to bits, but hid it in some bubble in time and now everyone in the Universe hates the time lords with the exception of the Doctor?

Clara (companion after Amy and Rory) seems to be more than she appears AND is running around with an immortal viking IN another stolen TARDIS?

And finally, the doctor fancies himself a Rock and Roll Guitarist?

And while some are claiming that the current Doctor is the best doctor ever, I wish to point out that Tom Baker was better, David Tennant a close second, Matt Smith was okay, but John Hurt played a hell of a doctor in the one episode he was in.

So, my question is, to put it simply, what the fuck are you people trying to do?

Now granted, I have not laughed as much as I have in the last few days, more with Capaldi's frequent references to flow charts than anything else.

I can't help you with those searching questions re Doc Who, but I think you have good taste regarding Tom Baker. A friend of mine recognised him in a bar once, started chatting with him, and he and Tom ended up going on a drunken bender together. He said Tom Baker was a bit unhinged (no great surprise, from the way he always acted), but really good company. Really hyper-extrovert - he just wanted to party with whoever was around him.

I love Capaldi.
Sexiest Doctor yet.

I'm behind on doctor who also. And don't have cable. But I prefer the small short stories within more than the overarching stuff anyways.

Can't get BBCA myself except when its a free preview on Dish but when Mom takes her morning nap, I try to catch up when we do have it (she does not like Doctor Who or Red Dwarf) and we have done a lot of shaving on the satellite system. I'm hoping that Game of Thrones will be on next weekend during the HBO preview (and a few good movies).

Good call on Baker and Hurt. Much as I like Capaldi and Eccleston, there's no argument that Doctor Grumpy is the best guy they've had in the role since the relaunch.

As for the rest: Steven Moffat has proven himself, ever since Matt Smith's first series, to be even worse at season long continuing metaplots than Russel Davies was, which is no mean feat. If you want to see why Capaldi is so esteemed, I'd suggest watching a few of the episodes that stand alone rather than the ones that are irretrievably embedded in Clara's three years long narcissistic tantrum: Inside The Dalek, Time Heist and Kill The Moon are three of the better ones.

As for what people are trying to do: Moffat tried (successfully) to reverse Davies' wiping out of the Timelords, realised this was a massive mistake and tried to keep them sort of around but permanently offstage instead. Chibnall is trying (less successfully) to tidy the mess up a bit.

I dont have a problem with the time lords still being around, especially since the weapon used to end the time war supposedly blew the Daleks to hell and gone as well and they were still around as well.

And lets face it, Clara running off with Me does present some possibilities, although I would think that the same effect would be happening as in "The Wedding of River Song."

However, some of the last two seasons have left me a bit confuddlelated.

Considering that Matt Smith's doctor could not dance to save his life (clearly no sense of rhythm) how the hell did he develop a talent for the guitar?

Capaldi is the best he simply suffers from what is called a script of crayonage.
Then its Tenant. I dont want to go
Now at this stage some people will think I favour the race known as totally handsome huge cock Scot’s, as opposed to that disgusting race of englishire jackals.
Tom baker
Partick troughton

Matt Smith = zero and he had the best material

Best scene stealer, Timothy Dalton - Spitlord

Well, in another board that I am a member of, there is the topic "Who should be the next Doctor, aka Doctors we would like to see"

Prior to his passing (a loss to the world IMO) Alan Rickman held the highest spot, followed by Danial Radcliffe, John Cleese
also mentioned
Ralph Fiennes
Jude Law
Sean Bean
James McAvoy
Kenneth Branagh
Simon Pegg
Bill Nighy

Of course some wanted aussies like
Hugh Jackman
Russell Crowe
Simon Baker
Hugo Weaving

But then I think that Robert Lindsay or Colin MacLachlan might do well....

But should they go with a female doctor, I would have to cast my vote for Kate Beckinsale (as long as she wore clothing similar to the underworld series.)

I think all of those males would be good in their different ways. James McAvoy is the one I can most see in the role, though.

There's a lot of talk about a female Doc Who in the future ... one common name being put forward is that of Tilda Swinton. Yep, if it's going to be female, she could do it.

I think a lot of the most likely actors who I'd like to see in the role either wouldn't do it because of other and bigger commitments, or because it's too punishing a job. Doing a season requires working heinous numbers of hours per week, apparently. For instance Robert Lindsay, I'd have thought, wouldn't want to take it on at his time of life.

I've an issue with the daleks still being around as well, if only because more of the fuckers popping up on the regular wrecks one of Eccleston's best stories.

For the same reason that William Hartnell had never even heard of cricket, but Baker and Davison were both fans, I'd imagine. I don't think any of them have been able to play the recorder since Patrick Troughton or the spoons since Sylvester McCoy either, come to that.

Definite +1 for Robert Lyndsey as a future Doctor, btw: he'd be great. Very good call, that.

It least he wasn't half as thoroughly shafted over that as Colin Baker was: several of his better scripts were very good indeed, and he got more than a couple of them.

I liked Colin Baker. He was more acerbic than the preceding Docs. It was that, though, that made the producers think that they'd got the wrong man, which is why they got rid of him (or so I heard). Shame.

What do we think of a female Doctor Who, eh? Myself - well, I can't say it would sit entirely comfortably for me. Doctor Who is almost a Jungian archetype - of a wizard ... not a witch. (Terry Pratchett got the difference between witches and wizards, too - I bet he'd never have held with a female Doctor Who.) He's all intellect - he doesn't 'do' warmth and intuitive understanding of when and how to hug someone and all that *girls'* stuff.

Still, still ... what the hell, mustn't be fusty and stuffed up, etc ... if so: Yes, I'd absolutely go for Tilda Swinton. Perhaps Miriam Margolyes. Actually, there are lots of actresses who could do super-brainy and hyper-eccentric. I bet there'd be a zillion who'd just love to try it, too.

Id love to see tennant make a miraculous comeback next. But im hugely bias in that i adore him.
I like capaldi a lot, baker was before his time, always eccentric, I think he would be great, Swinton would be great as a fem dr, but I like Peons idea about Margoyles.
I havent seen Robert Lindseys name mentioned in a long time, I Like him:)

You can't have Robert Lindsay as a Doctor Who. He's too old. The filming schedule is punishing, even for a young man. I think it's great that older actors get given good roles - but I don't want to see old boys or gals doing stuff that's too hard on them. I think what happened with Carrie Fisher and the last Star Wars film should be a lesson to us all. Too much pressure is put on a few people in the acting profession, IMO - it's bang out of order.

Baker is far older, and I admit, WHile I like the younger ones too, I wasnt thinking in terms of physical punishment. Rather simply on preferability as actors.

Hah ...

You'd be amazed at how close to home this whole Doc Who subject is for me. At age 10, I went to the house of Jon Pertwee. My brothers and I beat up his son Sean in a pillow fight.

Anyway, Jon talked at length about what it was like to play the role. It was *really* hard work, he said. They'd got rid of Patrick Troughton (his predecessor), he said, because Troughton couldn't take the pace and was always pissed on set.

I didn't like Jon Pertwee, actually. I thought he was a pompous plonker. When it was about time for us all to leave, he asked us if we'd all like autographed photos. My brothers and I had no idea what he was talking about. Why on earth would we want pictures of him with his signature? I actually said 'No, thanks, Mr Pertwee' ... but was given an autographed photo anyway. I was singularly unimpressed by all that. Granted, he was on TV; was very tall (many inches taller than my Dad) and had impressive silvery hair - but why the flying fuck would I want a photo of him with his signature?

Vain twat. Yuck - my first experience of the showbiz world - and I thought it really screwy indeed. I was nine years old, but thought Jon Pertwee embarrassingly childish.

Still can't get over that. Why the swivelling fuck would I want a signed photo of some silly old fart who happened to be on TV?

I thought me and my brothers might come away from that visit with a model Dalek. I was genuinely hoping for that.

And every time I see Sean Pertwee playing yet another hard-man in a film, I think 'Yeah, right, I hit you with a pillow when you were a kid and you ran off crying to your Mum, you milksop'. Heh.

Maybe you were the catalyst for him playing the hard man:)
I remember you telling this before and it disapointed me, because yes, I too have startling memories of him and daleks, but they were totally different, I dont negaate them because I never got farther than seeing him at a charity event at stanmore rhoh as a kid of seven.or eight.
I also like Sean Pertwee, as an actor, but again, not knowing the personality behind the act, I cant disagree with your experience:)
He plays the part of Alfred in "Gotham" I cant disagree with your assessment as a "hard man" and I did think about you hittin him with a pillow thru many of his scenes. But I love Gotham anyway.
lol

Being disappointed by "heroes and heroines" came at an early age. Nothing surprises me much anymore.Im too cynical.
