LA, there are physical benefits to still receiving a period once a month, it staves off
osteoporosis and heart disease for one.. and the estrogen keeps our skin and vaginal lining intact. I am all in favor of keeping my period as long as possible..what the hell, I am pretty used to it now

I have an IUD called the Mirena which has low dose  levonorgestrel , which is like progesterine. It keeps me from having heavy periods and I often skip them entirely. I have all the other hormonal activity of menstruation though, which is what I wanted as I see this as a natural part of life.

I do have severe symptoms without this device as far as bleeding is concerned, excessively so. I think that for young women such as yourself periods are usually a normal part of everyday life that do not interupt your flow (pun intended), but as you get older this is often not the case. My own mother had a hysterectomy for the same type of symptoms as I have, but they have different treatments today. Women only recently began to know about the difficulties of menstruation in the mid to late 30s as being normal in our generation. Menopause did not used to be discussed whatsoever. So while I agree, periods are no big deal for young women, this is not the case often as we age. Just things I have studied up on to prepare myself for the next stage of my life.

I agree Julia with your post and benefits to menstruating monthly.   I became VERY comfortable with having it, love it, and look forward to it every month.   It's part of being a woman, and I love the way my body works, menses, moods, and all.   M

MistressTexas -> RE: Menstrual cycle…. (7/26/2006 11:15:23 PM)

My periods were always devastating... Soaking through a super heavy flow tampon AND pad within 45 minutes, even while on the pill..... Cramps so bad I could barely move... My dad flipping out about once a month and dragging me to the hospital because he thought I was dying... I would be so utterly exhausted from getting up every half hour to change stuff... yatta yatta.. and this happened every month for 10-13 days, from the time I was 11 to about.. 16. sooo unpleasant. Hence Depo... A tiny little shot in the arm or ass once every 3 months. I personally reccomend arm.. My ass wouldnt stop tingling for a week. No period, no cramps, no weight gain... *ahhhhhhhhhh* theres a bit of spotting for the first couple weeks afer your first 2 injections... and th th th th th thats all folks... I'm a full advocate of it. Also I have a hugely strong history of breast cancer in my family, and I've been told by several different oncoligists and doctors that its one of the safest things on the market.

Orgasms are supposed to be good for cramps. The problem is when you have a bad cramps, the last thing you want is sex, even if it's at your own hand for relief.

Well, perhaps it's the last thing YOU want, but not me.  LOL.

As a Domme, I can harness that moodiness to become SUPERBITCH, or I can relax and chill out.  I consider myself lucky to have had enough of all the major menstrual symptoms to say "I have been there" but have expereinced most of them so mildly as to have never had much impediment to my life because of it.  I also can't imagine abandoning a femsub or other playmate during this time.  If I adore someone, I adore her entirely, bloody cunny and all.  It seems particularly weasely of an MDom to "hide out" from a femsub on her period.  In Vanillaworld this seems to be quite common as well.  I find it rather offensive to be honest.

While I agree that as people get older, their bodies give them more trouble in all sorts of ways- I still think that the percentage to which difficulties related to menstruation and cannot be managed with basic care and actually affect one's level of functioning in daily life to any significant level is very low- no matter what age.

Calandra -> RE: Menstrual cycle…. (7/27/2006 12:23:55 AM)

I think it's interesting that you, only ONE woman among many can claim that many women blow it out of proportion...

I used to be on my period only a few hours... I'd spot briefly, but double over with cramps for two to three days. Now I was a wallpaper hanger for twelve years and very active (you try climbing a step ladder a hundred times a day!) and diet nor exercise seemed to make any difference whatsoever. I'd crave comfort foods (usually starchy or sweet), and simply want to be left alone. Sexually I wanted/needed to be cuddled, but my nipples were extremely tender and if stimulated would create cramping that made me wish I could die. Orgasms did NOT help with cramping for me (I've never felt dirty or ashamed about being sexual during my cycle, but it simply didn't help).

I also have never been regular. I might go three months without a period, then have two in one month. Since I've gotten older, the second and third day of my cycle I am in bed and unable to resume daily routines... but of course, I'm probably blowing it out of proportion, huh?

Maybe, although what is that based on?  I hate pms.  I have always had it so badly I am ready to rip my uterus out.  Cramps so painful I vomit.  Some months I stay home from work one or two days because of it.  Nothing works.  I can't be on hormones because of past medical issues so Midol is my friend but only goes so far.  I wear those disposable heating pads and hang out in the bath or shower, but mostly I am just miserable.

Orgasms help, but sometimes I am in such bad shape, the thought of getting to one is unappealing - hell, the thought of living is unappealing!!

Never-the-less, period or not, misery or not, if Master wishes to use me, I am ready for it.  He is a great cure for pms, I'll tell ya that much!  There have been many times when our only weekend available happens to fall on my "red" calendar days.  So, to answer the OP, no it does not affect my activities with Master, other than he avoids use of that particular bodily entry, unless it's a lighter day.

When I was growing up periods were never mentioned [8|] I remember asking my mother when I was about 8 or 9 what a period was and she wouldn't tell me - she said wait until you're older. My ex husband would not touch me when I was menstruating.

It's been an interesting growing experience to find out in the last 4 years or so that there are men who don't mind having sex with a woman when she is bleeding - lol it's me who has the hangup about it! I have done it but I am not very comfortable with it, so Master and I avoid my vagina for 5 or so days a month [:)]

Most women I've spoken to, feel that men will abandon them or find them repulsive when on these cycles.  This is the time when women need a Master/Mistress the most.

This is indeed the attitude I have found most common.... in the girls.

"But but but I'm bleeding and its horrible and you won't want to be near me"

Bollox, I'm an ex-nurse, its quite natural and you are still you! Blood is nothing that a few towels and a wash won't sort, no need to be so self consious and besides if it bothers her that much there are always other options. It certainly doesn't effect coffee making skills [;)]

If she is cramping that needs to be taken into account, as does the fact that she is likely to be more drained and tired. Also likely to be a bit more emotional....Not a big deal, it is a period, not bubonic plague!

Ditto. I was with someone dominant who delighted in it too. It's the difference between men and women in a sense, women linked the moon and cycles and changes of mood and sexual desire and even desirability, what we emit whilst we're ovulating and how different we are at different times of the month. He said I was most submissive when my period started and I was glad for him to be so observant of me, made me felt I really was his as intimately as is possible and then I noticed he was right. I am concerned as to how I will feel when I reach the menopause. Having children, feeding them, being a mother, sex within my cycles at various times etc have all felt fundamental parts of me and to lose that will be a big change.

juliaoceania -> RE: Menstrual cycle…. (7/27/2006 6:23:49 AM)

My periods were so heavy they were considered a hemorrhage. II would have to wear a super tampon and a night pad just so I wouldn't bleed through, and even then I did. I did not have cramping though. I still have PMS sometimes twice a month. I eat very healthy, and I exercise daily. I am better since I lost weight, quit smoking, and started an exercise regime, but I still have some troubles.

The most likely age for a woman to suffer a major depression is in her late 30s, perimenopausal age. Hormones are nothing to be sneezed at, they are the biochemical reason we are women. It is natural to be a woman, but when we enter perimenopause (the period before we lose our period) then everything can go haywire. They are just beginning to understand how much so. Menopause is the culmination of perimenopausal symptoms, which can last up to 10 years. Sometimes these symptoms subside after the body adjusts to the different hormone levels (as in my case), sometimes it gets even worse.

Like I said, you are young and not there yet. Some women breeze through with no major life interuption whatsoever, others (many) have incapacitating moments. I hope I am not incapacitated by this process, but my quality of life as already went through one period of being lowered. Being perimenopausal is like trying to explain having sex to a virgin, it just isn't going to make sense until one experiences it.

LaTigresse -> RE: Menstrual cycle…. (7/27/2006 6:53:16 AM)

Kinda like me trying to tell every other woman childbirth is a peice of cake just because it was for me. I was easy for me, I would rather go thru childbirth than a bad stomach virus (if I didn't have the hell of raising them afterwards[:D] ) But I have been present at enough other deliveries to know I was the exception to the rule, not the norm.
And YES, perimenopause SUCKS![:'(]

twicehappy -> RE: Menstrual cycle…. (7/27/2006 6:54:42 AM)

I go through three days of severe vomiting, Klingon like attitude, screaming hornies and what we refer to as the death sleep prior to the start of my period.

I stay in my room, no meat is cooked where i can smell it(my pair eats out or eats vegetarian as the smell of cooking meat will make me violently ill) and the visitors are warned to be very very quiet.

The good news that once i start actually bleeding it all stops and life goes back to normal.

Whilst Scooter might enjoy a Klingon with the screaming hornies (uber-resistance play or what LOL) I very much doubt he'd enjoy being thrown up over!

To Susanof O. Once you near Menopause you find out it brings with it, it's own carpet bag full of distractions. Its not good or bad. Its just different. But dont wish for it. It's bound to happen no matter what. Wish for somethng more fun.

SusanofO -> RE: Menstrual cycle…. (7/27/2006 8:16:14 AM)

sophia: Yowzaaa! This just seems to get worse! I wanna have a sex change or something, for at least a week out of the month. Then, when menopause hits me for good, I want a Dominant that I will be so "into" that I won't even think about my "satge of life" as far as that kind of stuff goes.

Yup, interesting.  One could also just say that most people who post on this topic are ones who have vested interests and people who don't really have difficulty with their periods don't have anything to add.

BitaTruble -> RE: Menstrual cycle…. (7/27/2006 2:20:58 PM)

For all who are perimenopausal, I'd like to recommend The Silent Passage menopause By Gail Sheehy. It's about 15 years old, but chalk full of useful information for those of us who are going through this change. I was especially gratified to learn about the lack of REM sleep on my memory, and knowing this will (probably) be self correcting was a great relief. It also goes into the pros and cons of HRT, things you can do for osteoporosis, heart disease etc. Very informative and I'm very grateful to my girlfriend for lending it to me.

To the OP: My cycle is effected by other medical issues because I'm perimenopausal and have endometriosis. Normally, I bleed for 6 - 8 days and my period comes about every 23 - 25 days, so there are months that I'm riding the red beast twice. When possible, I'm in bed with a heating pad for at least one or two days a month and take prescription drugs to stave off the pain from the endo. That's a viable option when Himself is out of town, but not so viable when he requires my active service.

When I'm moody, I serve. When I'm tired, I serve. Regardless of how I am feeling, I serve. That's my job. During the one or two days a month when I could give Jeffery Dalhmer a run for his money, I bite my tongue till it bleeds if need be as Himself did not sign up to have a shrew for a slave and the last thing I want to do is cause him grief or stress because of my own biology.

I am looking forward to my periods stopping because the chances are about 98% that my endo will no longer be an issue in life. In the meantime, I'll just keep crying for no reason whatsoever, sweating while I'm freezing and all those other symptoms that go hand in hand with the natural aging process because it's what my body is doing at this point in time and I don't have control over my own biology any more than Himself does.

Celeste
