We will never know, because they will never tell us. But my gut feel is very accurate about things like this, it's most of the time right.

I never knew Robin Williams had issues with his parents. Only until JF made me curious enough to google to find out more today.

Yet I instinctively knew it was a parental issue. Because all of us kids with bad parents can sense each other. Kindred spirits.

Robin Williams committed suicide because he had a terrible condition that would have taken from him the ability to do what he loved doing.
It had nothing to do with whether he had good parents.

Greta,

Children have brains that are still in the process of "growing," for lack of a better word. They have very little past experiences to balance the now and no real concept of a future. Their entire world exists in the moment and for kids, those moments can seem unbearable and never ending. Their parents, no matter how loving, are outside that bubble of "this moment." For children, their hormones are changing, their bodies, their worlds. Their brain chemistry as well. Children hide their secrets pretty damn good, especially from their parents. At a time when they are feeling as if parents are basically "clueless " and couldn't understand or would stop them from doing what they want.

There comes a time when other children and teachers and coaches become the voices in a child's "bubble that is the moment." Parents have less influence over their children than the child's peers.

Inside this mentality that is centered on the now, with changing hormones, with changing brain chemistry, with no real past experiences to draw from, with no real concept of future - sometimes a child begins to suffocate in the stress of the "now" and being young make terrible choices that seem to them, in the moment, in those dark scary moments of change and loneliness and pain that they hide from especially their parents - the only way out, is to make it all go away.

Greta, even if a parent has failed in some or many ways - the loss of a child is not the time for harsh judgments and finger pointing. It is a time to mourn the loss of a flickering light that is snuffed out too soon.

If there are investigations that lead law enforcement to believe neglect or harm drove a child to suicide, then that becomes a different matter altogether.

Greta, Losing a child is a devastating experience that a parent has to endure for the rest of their life regardless of circumstance.(speaking from experience) I ask for you to show some respect and empathy for their loss and stop casting aspersions. BTW: It appears you're not close to your parents yet here you are.

Look, let me explain a few things.

According to the American Psychiatric Association, over 85% of all first time suicides and suicide attempts occurred with no obvious warning signs to those closest to the person committing the act.

Also, with the social stigma attached to Depression in the US, over 90% of those who suffer depression do so by hiding their problem. The tendency for people to tell those who are dealing with depression to 'suck it up' is a major part of the problem.

Furthermore, you fucking stupid bitch, as per your post in the 'I admit' thread, over 90% of those who suffer with depression do so in silence simply due to the fact that they do not want to be perceived as whiners by people with your fucked up opinion about 'sharing every ache and pain.'

Finally, the majority of people suffering depression in the United States without seeking professional help tend to self medicate. That is they tend to be excessive drinkers, use various drugs etc in an attempt to find something that makes them feel better.

And as for my knowledge in this particular subject, it is personal, since I have family members who suffer from depression and have attempted suicide and me asking their therapists why didnt I notice.

Now go fuck yourself with a barbed wire dildo.
