Wonder Woman (the film) has been mentioned on at least a half a dozen threads. Everything from women only showings, to how the creator of the character really was a poly guy, to what it was really like to have her as THE heroine on tv when so many of us were growing up.

For so many reasons, I wanted to see Wonder Woman. I was so excited about it, I could barely sit still. No, we didn't go on the premiere weekend, I didn't dress in cos-play... I didn't dye my boots red or wear star spangled banner under-oos. I just went to the film for the experience.

(Right about now, people who haven't seen the film or don't want to hear spoilers, should probably stop reading.)

The locations where this film was shot were absolutely breath taking. "Paradise Island" were these beautiful places in Greece. No wonder the amazons made it their home. Such a great choice by the director!

The story does start out a little slow. If the whole film had went the pace of the first twenty/thirty minutes, I probably wouldn't have liked it as much. Everything changes when Steve's plane is shot down and the whole world turns.

I never thought anybody could replace Lynda Carter as Wonder Woman. Gal Gadot surpassed my expectations. She wasn't just a pretty face. She had something amazing.

Her co-star (Chris Pine)? I think it was his best work. It didn't quite realize his talent, but it gives a person a glimpse of his potential. Not over-played. Just the right fit. I loved the chemistry between them.

I won't give away the plot. I don't want to ruin the movie for anyone. I will say it's probably the movie a person wants to see in the theater.

Thanks for that good info, Dear Lady.

As for this:

"I will say it's probably the movie a person wants to see in the theater."

As a former projectionist, I feel the need to reiterate the point, here;

35mm on the big screen beats the crap out of DVD or BluRay or VHS, any day. Best movie I ever ran was the 70mm Dick Tracy, with six-track magnetic sound. I ran projectors in between doing load-in and load-out for big acts where I had no interest in working the show itself. The other guy or gal was stuck at the projector on the few occasions I actually wanted to work the live show at the arena. Seniority choice. Seniority convenient shuffling of schedules.

I don't think too many movie theaters have the Altec A2 speaker systems anymore, but the Lucas Sound that replaced it is still ten times better than what's in your (or anyone else's) living room.

Got this movie marked a "must see," on your recommendation. At the Cinema.

Thank you, Lady Pact.

Did I mention that I ran sound for the dance schools' annual spring/summer recitals through a pair of Altec 1596A tube amplifiers through a pair of A7 cabinets, either wide of the stage? No?

It's difficult to hide pride where deserved.

I'm so very much wanting to see that movie! I admit to crushing on Wonder Woman as a kid, and Xena later on as a young adult.

I noticed they have the full series of the original Wonder Woman on sale now. I came sooo close to buying it, purely out of nostalgia.

My younger brother was a big Xena fan. Mostly because of the tigers.

If you ever make your way to Myrtle Beach, here's where you want to go.

Having a gargantuan tiger resting his/her head on your lap and reaching up with a paw twice a big as your face gently encouraging you to stroke it on the side of the neck is a 'different experience', suffice it to say. That was some years ago for me, I thinks it's quite expensive now.

If you've got the funds, splashing in the pool with the elephant is another good option. But it's not cheap, folks.

I liked wonder woman for the first 70% but was deeply disappointed at the final battle. It was anti-climax. And the final villain sucks.

Careful: you'll set off rm or somebody whining about the female only screenings again, saying that.

I saw that link when it was posted on the other thread. Just didn't get a chance to say thank you the first time around. I want to listen to the other one featured on the page. "Women in Comics." I might be old-fashioned in my thinking on this, but I still think it's a good thing that not all role models in comics look the same, or are the same gender, or all have the same color skin.

For Winnie. I hadn't seen that the series is for sale now, but I probably shouldn't be surprised. So many of the articles that I've read and even just talking to people who want to or have seen the film have mentioned the nostalgia factor. That would probably lead to some potential ideas about DVD sales.

First of all Chris Pine is a terrific supporting actor, let's just get *that* out there. He adds so much, from humor to serious soldiering, to thoughtful logic.

I hope that parents will take their young daughters who perhaps do not get to see too many positive female role models simply for the terrific "WonderWoman" that Gal Gadot presents.

As a person she's a terrific actress. Plus, as people will inevitably want to become educated as to who this person is, they'll discover that she was a Combat Instructor in the Israeli Military (no matter what you think of the State of Israel, we have to admit that their military is tough), as well as a Wife and Mother (of two) who is apparently balancing career and family very nicely, thank you very much.

Overall the movie itself was very good. I do wish they had gotten to the action sequences sooner, but I understand that they had to lay the groundwork. My biggest complaint was with the ending. I DID like the last minute switch-er-roo, but I was annoyed that the loose ends had to be tied up in what felt like a ten minute soliloquy. It was almost like they ran out of funding on time for the script. To be fair, I admit that I have hated this in other movies as well (anybody remember "Vanilla Sky"with Tom Criuse?).

Other than that, go see it, and yes even the soundtrack is good... overall a most impressive theatrical experience. Should you have time and interest, there is a lot of "behind the scenes" footage on youtube that I suspect will be a part of the DVD.

I'm probably going to rent or buy the DVD because I enjoy my second look at a movie with subtitles.

I can't wait to see the Wonder Woman movie. I do like watching the TV series. I also grew up watching Xena and I still watch Her now. I can see where my appeal to strong Female characters may have come from. Now these days, with Super Girl and ore Female centric movies coming out, this is becoming more normal. I think that is a good things.

I fail to see how Wonderwoman is a positive role model for women when she only defeated the enemy through brawn. If she didn't have her super god-like strength. She would be in trouble. They portrayed her as a rash airheaded beauty who relied only on her god-like pure brute strength to win battles.

And portrayed her side kick, the male lead as the brains.

In reality. Most women will not win in life by using brawns.

Otherwise, the Olympics should be Unisex and not split into male and female categories.

My biggest disappointment in this movie is they didn't make wonder woman a more strategic thinker.

Greta75, I thought she exhibited a mental strength in her ability to stay focused on the mission, further to be able to explain her focus.

I personally saw her as a mix a brains and brawn, again as I wrote, hopefully a good role model.

Then again, not everyone's going to agree with me. Have a nice day :)

Ability to stay focus on her mission? What would distract her? She was told it was her destiny to defeat this God of War. And of course she is gonna fulfill her destiny. She wanted to save the world and believe that to do that, she gotta kill the God of War.

Personally if the world around you is dying, there is not much distraction you can do but to complete your mission.

I am looking forward to a Female Super Hero who can win by Strategy though. Because even though I am following Supergirl, she is still again, all rash and brawn. And even established that she is infact physically stronger than Superman.

I don't get the direction of female empowerment super heroes being portrayed to use physical strength to win.

Most women in real life will never be able to over come their obstacles that way.

I recently watched a Justice League Episode Cartoon, of Superman stuck in an alien planet with the Red Sun, which gives him no powers, but he was able to defeat his enemy through brains. I would love to see that happen to a female super hero.

That is female empowerment on one level, believe it or not. Look at some of the '60s Marvels and the female superheroes in those: they all have mental or non physical powers and female characters whose superpowers involved being strong enough to beat the shit out of male bricks only started to come in during the '70s during the initial wave of feminism. It's odd to consider cheesecake fashionplates like She Hulk or Mz Marvel as feminist statements, but that was definitely an element to them as characters. When Stan Lee was editing everything at Marvel and scripting most of it, he was very opposed to having female characters taking part in fist fights in his comics.
(Of course, Wonder Woman's DC rather than Marvel, but the point still stands.)
