Blair29 -> Seeing other peoples notes (8/22/2017 6:35:58 AM)

Not sure if this has been brought up before, but today while I was looking at profiles I was able to see other peoples notes on certain users, one of which actually contained the users phone number.

Don't know if this was just a random fluke or if its a serious problem with the database but its obviously a huge privacy concern, given you cannot control what another person writes about you, ie if they choose to store your address\ phone number in the note system.

Anyone else experienced this the last few days?

Seems to have alot of strange privacy breach lately. Hope they do something about it. Don't want them to get sued.

Simple answer: Don't have any private info on this site.

Obviously, but if somebody else has added your phone number or email as a note on their front page, there isn't a lot you can do about that.

How about not give your phone number or email to people on this site. I may be wrong but that seems like a pretty fucking effective counter measure to me.

True enough.

That's inevitable though if you actually meet real people through this site. You'd exchange numbers.

ThatDizzyChick -> RE: Seeing other peoples notes (8/22/2017 9:47:20 PM)

Well if you are going to use a crashy, buggy site that has been known to log people into other people's profiles at random to exchange private information, well you pretty much deserve whatever happens to you.
Here's my suggestion. Make a Yahoo, gmail, or Hotmail account that is used for this site only (you can always forward the messages to your usual email account for convenience) and give that to the person you are interested in, and you only exchange identifiable information through that, rather than through this site.

Yeah. Today. How do you feel about ten years ago?

I agree with LadyPact that we all gave out information more freely in the past.
We need that information protected.
And we have no control over the "notes" or "mail" of other people.

Nowadays there are plenty of ways to keep discrete, which I would hope LadyPact now knows (I don't know how technical she is), but in the days of yore', we weren't cognizant of the danger.

Well I wasn't on the site 10 years ago, but even if I were I would not have given out any private info, I, apparently was born wiser than some others.

You also missed out on a lot of really good stuff. [;)]
House parties, "call if you get lost," hey, we're going to this kink convention, and here's how to find us. Take this exit from I-95. here's the address...

Yup, and I also missed out on a lot of bad stuff too.

Maybe not.
Anyone on Collarspace (including me) is crazy from a privacy standpoint.
At least FetLife protects privacy better.

If you understand what I just wrote, then you are as smart as you seem to think you are.
If you don't, well then, the conclusion is just as easy to make.

You didn't have to prove my assertion so quickly.

ThatDizzyChick -> RE: Seeing other peoples notes (8/29/2017 12:13:07 PM)

Yes dear, whatever you say.

cloverodella -> RE: Seeing other peoples notes (8/29/2017 1:23:54 PM)

But that doesn't mean that the other party won't add your email in their notes on your profile. That is what other people are now having access to with the glitch.

I'm with you on not giving out your real personal email or phone number. I'd use a google voice number if I were to talk to other members myself.

The only solution is to never give anyone any non-CS info, which doesn't work for the people looking to meet other CS members IRL.

Usually, my standard procedure is, move on to email communication. And then exchange numbers for real life meetings. And then, potentially, this person who does come on CS, starts becoming a regular real life friend you do hang out with. There is nothing wrong with him.

Except, maybe, he just has a bad habit of storing people's phone number and emails inside CS, on the notes section.

And I would never know about it.

I mean seriously, it's pretty hard to have a real life friendship and start seriously hanging out regularly in the real world, and refuse to exchange numbers.
