there is a reason for that.

My understanding (which may be incorrect, as this is an American idiom that hasn't really made it beyond the chavs over here) is that "thick" basically describes somebody who's too thin to appeal to the chubby chasers and too fat for everybody else. (Not necessarily true, but that seems to be how the term is interpreted.) I really find it hard to imagine that anybody is going to use that as a compliment.

What about 'sick' meaning 'good'? That was possibly the weirdest bit of teen-speak I'd ever heard.

"That was sick!" Means, "That was awesome!" Seriously, just depends the tone of the voice.

I get the "sick" part.

I like to think it started with horror movies or gore, where you see something that made you sick, but also like, the experience was awesome!

We have better slang over here.
I always find it hilariously that the chavs (who are remarkably racist) go around trying to speak like black rappers. You're paler than most fucking goths, lads: that isn't going to convince anybody. At least if they spoke like a proper British wide boy the high pitched squeaky delivery would be less obtrusive. (I really hope the suggestion I heard that the stupid little twats do that because they think it makes them sound like they've been autotuned isn't on the level, but they probably are stupid enough to try to fake that, sadly...)

I think that probably settles the "is somebody being too wussy to out and out call Greta fat saying she's 'thick' supposed to be a compliment?" question, then. Unless I've misread the semiotics you're leaning towards "Hell, no,", aren't you?

You know the 'gangster' kids on the estates here refer to the police as 'the feds'? God that makes me wince. It's embarrassing.

Do they do so in a affected castrato shriek and a fake sarf lahndahn accent as well?

You hit it square on. A guy wouldn't use the term thick as a fat insult. "Baby you are thick" is a compliment. By definition, and I quote "A "thick" girl has a curvy/slim waist with a big behind, hips, and thighs. Beyonce, Ashanti, and Kim Kardashian would be examples of being thick because they're not fat or skinny (they have hourglass figures)."
I think
Nicki Minaj would be considered thick.

I agree that telling a girl she has a thick body part would be taken as an insult, as it is not a social norm. Even if you are like me and "thick thighs" are a massively hot sexy turn on. I wouldn't verbalize it without a definitive explanation first. And even then, she would have to be a rubenesque girl that is comfortable with her self image and aware of how sexy her thickness is. I love a plus sized girl with a nice phat bottom, big boobs and the plus sized sensuality to make it sexy. A girl like that can afford to have some belly on her because she has all those sexy female curves I love so much.

And fat is way different than phat. My slave wife is phat. A true Pawg and I just love it... she is sexy as hell.

Yes it is. I think it is regional and specifically originated from the US but maybe only specific parts. Because after googling too, many websites are claiming that when men say a woman is "thick", it's a compliment, to indicate that she got the perfect ratio of flesh on her bones that men like.

That if a man wanted to insult a woman for being fat, he would never use the word "thick". He'd just say "fat".

Definitely in my part of the world, describing a woman's body part as "thick" would be a clear insult. But ya know, sometimes, cultural differences on what "word" is considered a compliment is interesting.

And after being a part of this forum for many years. What Americans think is normal in America greatly differs from each other too, drastically, depending on where they stay, it seems.

It is a huge country after all.

This made me chuckle thinking of listening to the young lads on the estate where my ex playmate lives in London. You'd hear then giving it all that with the Chav banter, but then hear their tone totally change when someone from their family spoke to them lol

What is even more hilarious is listening to the idiots here in Yorkshire trying to mimic the same stupid accent, and way of speaking.

Many excellent responses so far. I don't have the patience anymore for all the self-anointed Social Justice Warrior bullshit. People are becoming to F'n paranoid these days if what they do or do not say is acceptable. Everybody has the right to be offended by something, but also this means everybody equally has the right to offend another. What's important is if any true harm or not results in the process. I'm not into bubble wrap, not like this.

What? You mean it's not a thing generally made of leather/rubber/vinal that you beat a person with?

Nobody has called me thick before. People only use the word "fat" on me to constantly fat shame me. The person who was called "thick" was Sansa Stark on Youtube. The camera had her at an angle where her double chin was showing and her thighs were on full display right up to below her bum sitting down. It was a very short skirt. And although she got gorgeous slim legs usually in most pictures, that specific angle made her thigh look a little fleshy.

Thus alot of women got outrage over it, especially when it sounds like a slim woman was being fat shamed. And the men defended the term saying it's a compliment.

And whoremods, why are you joining the fat shaming camp to personally fat shame me too?

Seriously, all you men who loves fat shaming women are so nasty and cruel.

Well, I've always been partial to chunky calves on a woman, me. No idea where that came from, mind you.
