BamaD -> God didn't send help, the Government did (9/2/2017 8:58:43 PM)

When I saw that cartoon it reminded me of a story from Katrina.

A man was in the path of the flooding;
As the water started flooding a jeep came by and offered to take him away.
He said no Thanks God will take care of me.
As the water rose an army ton and a half got to his house and tried to save him.
He said no thanks God will take care of me.
When his house was cut off a boat tried to help.
Again no thanks God would take care of him.
As he was sitting on the roof a helicopter came by.
He said the same thing.

He drowned.

When he saw God he said I believed in you and thought you would save me but you didn't, why?

God said what are you talking about, I sent a jeep, a truck, a boat, and a helicopter!

Religion, genius.

Yaknow, this section of politics AND religion.

FR
Let's remember that God SENT Katrina too! So he better be sending the "jeep, a truck, a boat, and a helicopter" to fix the mess and devastation he made!

Natural Disasters like what happened in Noah's Ark, is 100% God's work of destruction of his creations whenever he throws a tantrum.

my goodness greta please...

WhoreMods -> RE: God didn't send help, the Government did (9/3/2017 7:46:51 AM)

That's a really old joke: there's a clip of Dave Allen doing that one back in the early '70s and he'd probably swiped it from Tom Lehrer or somebody who was doing it twenty years before that. Nice to see it's got a second wind.

Now that you've mentioned that, it's weird how these hurricanes seem to concentrate on hitting red states during republican presidencies, isn't it?

Well, red states DO tend to be in the SE US and hurricanes tend to hit......guess where?

It has a lot more to do with physics than any deity or politics.

I just feel like Christians always only acknowledge the "good stuffs" their God did. But fail to acknowledge that he is capable of destroying anything that he is not happy with as well.
It has always been his SOP.

It's his Universe. He does whatever he wants as he please. (Let's not forget, according to Christianity, the goal of Christians is to save as many people as possible by converting them to Christianity, before the end of the world. Apparently, according to the bible, this earth has a limited life span. And God gave it a dateline and will destroy all again.)

The conundrum here is.

IS natural disaster caused by climate change? Or is it caused by God who just feels like doing it at his wimp?

There is no other answer.

It's either, "Human's fault aka Climate Change", or God's Fault aka, it's beyond human control, he is controlling it.

Of course, but rational explanations supported by centuries of observation and scientific enquiry are a lot less fun than suggesting that God is picking on somebody, aren't they?

Well, another super Christian country who keeps getting terrorized by natural disaster is the super holy Philippines.

But the Vatican City seem safe!

So, oh well.

So the Pope's right, and God's a Catholic, then.

"allowing" things to occur is not the same as "causing" them to occur.

hurricanes are not "acts of god" per se, and they are certainly not a result of god having a tantrum. nature is "fallen" much in the same way mankind is. bad things, or seemingly bad things, happen as a matter of course.

the best response to you first sentence probably comes from the book of job, where job, after losing everything says: "the lord give and the lord takes away, blessed be the name of the lord."

My understanding of Job is that everything that happens (including the weather) is too God's fault as that whole book of the old testament makes it clear that God is deliberately tormenting the poor bastard to prove a point to Satan. He says as much when he finally deigns to answer Job's very justified tantrum towards the end, doesn't He?

I'm just curious how the Book of Job can be used to claim that anything in existence isn't an act of God. That really does strike me as a misprision and then some.

The hate from one side is terrible.

I know no one and know of no one that claims that ALL government help is bad. It is nothing but a straw man from the left that is false. It is more smug dismissiveness. *sigh* It is no better than the tweet that claimed the hurricane was "karma" for voting for Trump. Yeah, the people in Huston deserved it. Blech!

If homosexuals deserve to die because they have an itch for cock and 11/9 happened because they weren't being rounded up and disposed of and because models dress like tarts on the runway, I find it very hard to feel censorious towards people on the other side of the political divide using analogous arguments. Some of them might be taking the piss, after all, unlike Falwell, Robertson or the late Phelps.
