Maybe their sales are down because his pizza is shit? Even Pizza Hut is better than the crap they sell.

I am with you, they suck. Papa John's is 4th and there are only 4 including Little Caesars.

I like Little Caesars and Domino's...toss up, I get the best specials.

JVoV -> RE: Papa John's Loses Dough (11/3/2017 3:17:07 AM)

People are voting with their money, and it has nothing to do with the NFL.

The founder of Little Cesar's paid Rosa Park's rent for an apartment in a safe neighborhood in Detroit for decades, after the one she was living in was robbed. He past away recently.

So if you're making a socially conscious decision about your pizza order, I think the choice is obvious.

"passed away" Not "past away," even if he's that, too.

Lucylastic -> RE: Papa John's Loses Dough (11/3/2017 3:29:07 AM)

Im not a pizza expert.
But i do like ph meatlovers occasionally.

I do wonder if pappa johns customers, and workers will get that finacial loss passed down.

... and I am quite sure, before the dust settles, he won't be the only one.

I've not watched any NFL games this year, but I have seen photos on Facebook and Twitter. It almost looks like every Sunday is Hallowe'en with a large number of fans dressed as empty seats.

Forbes Article
The important bit:

Schnatter blames part of the downturn on the National Football League, which has faced turbulence amid widespread national anthem protests in the past year. “The NFL has hurt us by not resolving the current debacle,” he said on a conference call on Wednesday. Papa John's is the league's official pizza sponsor.

It would be amazing to be in some of those board rooms, where companies discuss the real reasons they gain or lose money.

Here's some news;

If the NFL and cheap pizza are to be held as consideration of health of an otherwise supposedly 'great nation,' I think we're overcooked, here, before any of that other stuff.

Indeed it would be amazing hearing these board members discussing why they are making or losing money.

"We got all this super cheap credit and cheap labor, so what gives?"

"So right! I mean, just because I sit on your board and vote to pay you $10 million for losing money last year, and you sit on my board and vote to pay me $10 million for losing money last year . . . I mean, WTF?"

"We need to cut labor cost, no question."

"Hear hear!"

Nope. I'm as happy as a pig, in slop.

I'm enjoying myself on these boards for the first time in a long time.

[:D]

LOL yeah, tell that to the marines,

If happy means threatening to sue posters because he doesn't like how they interpret his words, then yes he's ecstatic.

I liked them for a while, and me and my son used to order every week. But we've had two new pizza joints open in our area that are much better. I haven't ordered from Papa John's in a couple years.

Let the market decide.

I think the market may very well be deciding.

Papa John's in inextricably linked to the (N)o (F)ans (L)eft league.

League viewership is down. people aren't sitting in front of their TVs, watching a game. They're not seeing the Papa John's commercials. They're not picking up the phone or going online.

Maybe, they're out, actually living life (as I have been on Sundays, lately). Maybe, they're watching the W.S.

I think the free market is doing just fine, doling out financial retribution to the companies that support the N.F.L. (Kind of like Rush's advertisers leaving him).

Michael

down from a 1.4% Wall street expectation to a 1%. Wall Street is deciding, not the market. Learn something, dont wallow in slop.

bounty44 -> RE: Papa John's Loses Dough (11/3/2017 6:48:12 AM)

will be interesting to see Michael, if by next year the kneeling controversy isn't solved, if papa john's withdraws from its position as the "official pizza"

its making me wonder actually if they have to pay for that "privilege"

JVoV -> RE: Papa John's Loses Dough (11/3/2017 7:07:03 AM)

Obviously, it's a political issue, with Papa John's being right-leaning.

Lefty Annheuser-Busch blamed a drop of 1.5% volume in Q3 on weather in parts of the country. (Revenues were still up)

JVoV -> RE: Papa John's Loses Dough (11/3/2017 7:18:51 AM)

Oh... This looks more like an inside job now; an attempt to seize power in the NFL.

http://nypost.com/2017/11/02/is-jerry-jones-behind-papa-johns-goodell-takedown/

The Dallas Cowboys owner is the biggest single stakeholder of Papa John's other than Papa himself.

Intrigue, I like it.

But I'm sure Hurricanes Harvey and Irma had absolutely nothing to do with any loss of revenue for his 100+ restaurants.

Yes, because "Wall Street" and "The Market" have no relation to one another. You're not the full quid, are ye?

I would be willing to bet (an entire 5¢) that if a company uses the NFL logo, they have to ante up for that privilege.

I know bars that have been issued cease-and-desist orders for daring to put the words "Super Bowl" on their marquee without permission (which I assume means "payment" of some kind of fee)

I think quite a few companies are feeling the "hatred" that the NFL has brought upon them. I cancelled my subscription to the "Sunday Ticket" and I know quite a few others who have, also. I also keep up with groups that are organizing "protests" against the NFL.

Sooner or later, the NFL is going to have to address this or raise prices. I vote for the latter, but I hope for the former.

Like I said: Free markets are deciding.

Peace,

Michael

that's one of the ways the Olympic movement, or at least the IOC, was able to go from running in the red to being in the black---they sold the logo and the title "official sponsor." and yes, same thing with this---if you tried to appropriate the name somehow without official approval, youd get in trouble.

I think its an issue, and an interesting one, but I believe I mentioned before, I think more than anything its likely to fizzle away.

bounty44 -> RE: Papa John's Loses Dough (11/3/2017 8:46:22 AM)

an interesting question about the hurricanes and one wonders how those stores contributed to the overall declination. im sure that information's known at the corporate level, but im skeptical its significant. in the grand scheme of time, the hurricanes are relatively brief in duration, and people's lives go back to normal pretty quickly.

Regarding the "Super Bowl", the NFL copyrighted the words (Not just "trademarked the logo") much like that basketball coach whose team won their second championship and he went the next day and copyrighted "Threepeat" (or some homonym thereof).

It's why you see bar marquees with: "Come watch 'The Big Game' with us" and " 'Big Game' buffet at half time", etc.

I think the devastation that came one-right-after-the-other certainly explains some of the losses, but numbers don't lie and NFL viewership is down something like 2M per week?

Add to that the organized boycotts and letter writing and email campaigns and I think the NFL will show a down-turn in profits for sure, until they make the decision to be owners and not just baby sitters.

Peace,

Michael
