I don't like ChikFilA, so I don't spend my money there anyway. The biscuits are too sweet, and their chicken sandwiches are too dry. I also think they're overpriced. Also, the one closest to me is always too slow, and overly crowded. But it's close to WalMart and Target, and the only ChikFilA for 15 to 20 miles around.
Give me a greasy spoon over a drive thru for breakfast any day, but if drive thru is the only option, I'm going to Hardee's. Breakfast Frisco, hash rounds, a couple of cinnamon raisin biscuits. Omnomnom.
If I am in the mood for a chicken sandwich, then I'll hit Checkers. The Spicy Chicken is good, and the Big Chicken Club is even better.

Well, I can't agree with your not liking CFA's food. I think it's great. I do agree they're overpriced, though. If I'm going to have a chicken sammich (which isn't likely), I'm heading to Arby's where I can ditch the chicken sammich idea and get some great meats as sammiches. I used to frequent greasy spoons as the end of a night of partying (and I do have to say what I call "partying" is more like warming up for people who party). I can dig into that stuff.

You feel that if you 're even noticing what you're eating at three in the morning then you've not been partying hard enough?

You can agree that I don't like any of ChikFilA's food. A friend worked there back in the day, and I only ever ate the bland waffle fries. Even the buns are crap. And anybody that puts pickles on a chicken sandwich can just go straight to hell. If I'm in the mood for chicken, KFC isn't too far.

I do really like Arby's too. I may actually be addicted to their $1 sliders during happy hour. I also love that they still send out coupons every month, so I know their new specialty sandwiches. The chicken parmesan with pepperoni was fantastic a few months back. I love their onion rings, waffle fries, Ghirardelli chocolate shakes, their smokehouse BBQ sandwiches... Ugh... Yeah, I may have to hit them up tomorrow. And they have Pepsi products, which makes everything taste that much better.

There's a greasy spoon not too far from me that is really good for breakfast. Nice variety, great prices, easy hometown feel. Also serves Pepsi, instead of Coke. It's also the only place to get a decent cheesesteak around here.

I don't like Chipotle at all. Dairy Queen is bad for real food, but great for ice cream, although I'd rather spend $3 for a half gallon at Walmart. McDonald's is quick & greasy, and closer than anything else. Wendy's is not good. Burger King is hit or miss around here, so I skip it. Long John Silver's is one of those places I remember once or twice a year. Taco Bell is ok, but my favorite thing they had was the Southwest Gordita, with a nice chipotle sauce, but they don't have the sauce anymore. I only do Subway when they send bogo coupons.

Checkers has the best fries, but that's a bit further up the road than my normal travels. So is Hardee's. So those are for days I have appointments. I keep threatening myself to try the Red Burrito or whatever at Hardee's, but haven't done it yet, cuz thickburgers are hard to pass up.

And if you can't tell, I haven't quite decided on what to have for dinner yet. Although as cold as it is, Domino's is probably a good bet.

LMAO!! You go!! I wonder if Masterpiece Cakeshop's regular (I don't recall the timeframe) reporting to the Colorado CRC will end up being open to public view. Or, if records are brought about in the SCOTUS case, if that'll end up being part of the public domain.

I couldn't say but it would be interesting to know things like how many customers he gained because of his position. Ridiculously difficult to get any idea of how many customers he lost. Repeat customers or people who would have been new customers had it not been for this.

How did you deal with the fucking cold?!?!? This current arctic bullshit we're going through is horrible. I don't want to do anything but work, discuss on here, and curl up under the covers. I have a cousin that lives in Erie, PA. They've gotten 101.5" of snow already, including one storm where they got 50" in 48 hours. Erie is in a shitty location if you don't like snow, as it's on the Eastern edge of Lake Erie. But, unlike Buffalo, it's sorta south of the Lake, so "lake effect snow" isn't quite as bad as places like Buffalo, but, damn! He supplements his income by plowing, so he's over his head in work, literally.

Well, I shouldn't really impress anyone as much of an 'outdoor gal' so if you think I was out frolicking in the -60 F, (which is about ten degrees less than the normal average but we actually hit it) you can probably skip that idea. Most transplants (anybody not born and raised there) don't have the "it's just cold" attitude about it that the native Alaskans do. You learn to acquire it by the second winter.

You do acclimate fairly quickly. The joke goes that the four seasons in Alaska are almost winter, winter, break up, and summer, so cold becomes relative.

I have to say I feel for your brother right now. I really do.

I played trombone through high school. I was pretty darn good. Back then, I also played in my church's service band. The church was eventually blessed with a trombone player who had retired from playing professionally in a symphony. THAT GUY was amazing on the t-bone. Throw on some good jazz, big band music, marches, etc., and I can definitely enjoy and appreciate musical artists.

This is very realistic.

I'm kind of big on can I do X and who can do X better than I can. Most things that I consider art tend to fall in the latter category.

After Alaska, we got stationed in a place that I have always referred to as back to civilization. We went from pretty much zero as far as any food chain with any name recognition to 'holy crap, no matter what it is, it's within five miles'. Not to mention dang near every restaurant that wasn't fast food delivered.

I'm going to split this description into food available within a mile of the house and food that's in the 5-10 mile range. Both Arby's and Chick Fil A are within the mile. (Along with McD, all four of the major pizza chains, a BBQ joint, one Chinese, one Korean, one American that is a chain but the name wouldn't be familiar where you live, Sonic, and a Dunkin Donuts if you want to count that.) The Chick Fil A is absolutely packed from 5:00 - 7:00 and it's got two lanes of drive through that wrap around the building. It's not my go to choice. In fact, I've never eaten there since we've lived here, but it's doing a monster business.

Because we move around so much, it always takes me a while to find those little restaurants. The kind that don't look like much on the outside but the food is amazing on the inside.

Crud. I forgot about Subway, Jimmy Johns, and Jersey Mike's in the one mile radius. The rest you mentioned are in the 5-10 mile radius. (Wendy's, BK, Taco, DQ, and so on.) The very bottom of my list is TB because I'm allergic to onions.

Here, Hardee's is Carl's Jr, which is nothing more than a name change. (Also within a mile of the house.) If it's fast food, they probably do have the best burgers and I don't mind paying a bit more for them.

Even with all of these choices that are so close to me. I probably patronized Domino's the most in 2017. It's the most convenient for the three of us, easy to order, and there's enough selection that even if we all want something different, we can get it delivered from the same place.

I'm 10.7 miles from the closest McDonald's. Going a different direction, there is a Subway inside of a gas station just 8.9 miles away, and the supermarket shopping center across the street has a Chinese place & Domino's, as well as an ice cream & hotdogs place, and a sushi restaurant, but I avoid both of those.

Sadly, that Domino's doesn't deliver to my house, because an older one owned the delivery area already. 14.6 miles away.

1. I partied hard enough for me.
2. I did not party hard, compared to most people.
3. The ability to notice what I was eating at the end of the night has nothing to do with my determination that I wasn't a hard partier. That I wasn't consuming a lot of alcohol is why I don't think I was much of a partier.

Arby's smokehouse BBQ sandwiches were stupid good. My sons used to not care for Arby's, but their taste buds finally grew up and they'd choose Arby's more often than not. They are all-in for McD's, so they still have more growing up to do. lol I don't like McD's burgers. The only thing McD's has that I'd almost have to go for, was that Shamrock Shake, and they changed those and fucked them up. I'll be just fine if I never go to another McD's again.

What part of FLA do you call home? I heard the cold snap has reached South Carolina, but I don't have any idea how much further down it's gotten. I have a cousin in SC and she posted pics of her kids enjoying the cold. Here in NW Ohio, we've had daytime highs that sometimes barely topped 0. It's been a long, bitter stretch that makes me wonder how Minnesotans, Wisconsans, Dakotans, Alaskans, and Canadians live with more of this shit, and how wonderful it would be if I could hibernate like a bear. lol

I'm a county north of Orlando. And we've had freeze advisories the last few days, with threats of snow, but that hasn't happened. One more night of it, then it'll warm up a bit.

The coldest it got here was 27°F. Which is coldest we've had on record for the 10 years I've lived here. I've got a heating pad, electric blanket, and the heat cranked up.

Today has been a struggle.

I doubt I'll sleep tonight, but there's a fresh batch of brownies in the oven so I can damn sure try.

My ex's sister lives down in Naples, and her oldest went to UFlorida. My M-i-L once sent him a care package with an ice scraper and some other winter essentials that he'd never needed before.

I can't wait to get back to 27 degrees. I think our high today was supposed to be 11. Thursday's high, though, is supposed to get to 50. That's unseasonably warm, but I'll definitely appreciate some heat.

A small part of my house is over a crawlspace, and not a basement, like the rest of the house (someone at some point put an addition on and didn't extend the basement). The main part that's over the crawl is the bathroom. The cold water pipe to the sink froze (the past two winters, it's been the hot water pipe). But, this year, too, the supply to the toilet also froze. that was a new one. I need to crawl in there this "not winter" and insulate. I have a space heater I put in there when the temps get too low (okay, technically, I have a space heater I put in there after the pipes freeze because I didn't remember to do it beforehand). It's been on for 10 days or so. lol

Cinder block only does so much for insulating and there is nothing separating the crawlspace from the rest of my basement, so there's significant lack of heat down there. My basement typically is a walk-in refrigerator in January/February.

ive had toilet drain (not the supply) freeze and main water to the house freeze too. thankfully neither of those two problems this time around.

is your crawlspace more or less "airtight?" that would help some. mines not and it would be a challenge to make it so.

insulation yes. if you have a nearby outlet handy, maybe some heat tape also?

I was born in the right state. Fuck all that cold bullshit. Fuck snow. Fuck building snowmen and catching pneumonia. And that was before my injuries. Now, just nope. I'd be laid up in bed for months at a time, and not for any good reasons.

I actually did sleep last night, quite well actually. Not sure if it was the brownies, my Purple mattress, or the shot of rum I had in my hot cocoa, but I slept goooooooood lol.

After the hot water tank, the only copper lines are what goes up through the walls or out to the spigots. Everything else is PEX. I "should" have done a better job routing, but it was my first foray into it. I don't see heat tape as a viable solution for my situation.

I don't know how air tight cinder block is. If someone whose authority on the topic told me it wasn't air tight (or told me it was), I could accept that. The 'vents' are closed, but that doesn't necessarily mean they're air tight. One of the things I'm going to do (eventually) is block those from the inside (foam board insulation with expanding foam to "glue" it in place), as well as seal all the joist/sill plate areas and foam board those areas, too. Foamboard the walls and lay out thick plastic. Essentially, I'm going to make it "conditioned" space (since I can't really block separate it from the rest of the basement because of how it was put in).

I have to fix the basement floor and drainage before I apply foamboard around the entire inside of my basement(and seal joist/sill plate bays). Plenty of work to do. It's definitely a "fixer upper."

Hmmm.... of all the mattress commercials (infomercials) I've seen, Purple has piqued my interest more than any. It's possible "Goldilocks" had something to do with that, but even in commercials or reviews without her, it's still what I'm leaning towards. lol

I own a house with a cinder block foundation and last time I was in the cellar, actually closing off the open space between the cellar and the space under the porch, I noticed a few places where cracks in the joints had opened up, as well as, interestingly enough, between the blocks and the house above it.

it sounds to me like you have a good handle on it.

have been dealing with frozen pipes elsewhere lately, and one of the strategies we employed was turning the thermostat up on the hot water tank, hoping that would translate to a little warmer water downstream. hard to say if that worked on its own because we did some other things as well. it makes some sense but it depends probably on the distance between the tank and the cold area, and if you are leaving the hot water faucet dripping a little.

Order directly from Purple, if you do. Not from Amazon or another third-party. The 100 nights trial period only applies directly through them. Do not buy the frame until you're sure you're keeping the bed, because that's not returnable. If it's going to work for you, you'll know quickly.

it sounds to me like you have a good handle on it.
have been dealing with frozen pipes elsewhere lately, and one of the strategies we employed was turning the thermostat up on the hot water tank, hoping that would translate to a little warmer water downstream. hard to say if that worked on its own because we did some other things as well. it makes some sense but it depends probably on the distance between the tank and the cold area, and if you are leaving the hot water faucet dripping a little.

I remember the first time I had a pipe freeze. It was the hot water to the bathroom sink (same pipe the following year). I recall looking up why it was the hot water and not the cold water and found it was more common for the hot water pipe to freeze, though I don't recall why. But, leaving your faucet dripping is supposed to be a way to prevent pipes from freezing, hot or cold supply alike.

the general explanation so far as I remember it is, gases are dissolved more readily in warmer water and that raises the freezing temperature.

Or the rapidity of going from heat to cold (over long periods) reduces the tensile strength of the metal.
