No. This isn't the worst George Carlin bit ever. This is reality.

The United States’ Center for Disease Control (CDC) received a list from the Trump administration of seven words and phrases they’re no longer allowed to use in their budget reports. Among the list is ‘transgender,’ ‘science-based,’ ‘diversity,’ ‘vulnerable,’ and ‘fetus.’

Policy analysts for the CDC in Atlanta were told of this list on Thursday (14 December) during a 90-minute briefing. Documents related to the federal budget proposal were sent back to the agency for ‘correction,’ as they used these phrases. Alison Kelly, a senior leader at the CDC’s office for financial services, reportedly led this meeting and did not explain why these terms were banned.

The full list of banned terms is as follows:

vulnerable
entitlement
diversity
transgender
fetus
evidence-based
science-based

I would like to see the budget report and how those words were used (in context.) Some of them don't seem to be relevant to a CDC budget plan.

Very Strange times we live in.

DaddySatyr -> RE: The 7 things you can't say at the CDC (12/16/2017 9:02:06 PM)

I'm wondering ... in a CDC budget report, wouldn't one think ALL items would be, by definition, be "science-based"?

If it's no big deal, then why the fuck did Trump even do it?
Look at that list and tell me that Pence's Christian fascist agenda has nothing to do with it.

WinsomeDefiance -> RE: The 7 things you can't say at the CDC (12/16/2017 10:14:06 PM)

It could be a big deal if things like Social Vulnerability Indexes and services are part of the CDC budget and are being effected by verbiage 'bans'.

I'm not at all certain why "science-based" would be banned, unless it was used in context in an inflammatory manner? In a budget proposal?

blnymph -> RE: The 7 things you can't say at the CDC (12/16/2017 10:40:56 PM)

what kind of newspeak should they use instead?

MrRodgers -> RE: The 7 things you can't say at the CDC (12/17/2017 12:13:14 AM)

What, you kinkroids didn't know that the only truth you get today, is from govt. ? Govt. writes all truth from now on.

To prove it now, even bureaucrats free speech is censored. See how easy it's becoming ?

Fascism is coming, dragging a cross, wrapped in a flag.

FR.
Considering how many scientists, of all kinds are being replaced with trumps "experts" not just in health, but the EPA and other departments.
No Im not looking it, up...
science is a bad thing
I guess First amendment rights, facts, and social issues are baddddddd
I guess refusing permission to do research on guns deaths was the start.Lobbyists....
I guess changing words is a start, then banning books and materials that could or should make a difference to health, or any other scientific policy.
what is the point of it, its petty, and probably not going to "work"
why the fuck should it?
this administration proves that rock bottom has a basement

I've absolutely no idea.

Without having any context to base things on, all I can do is speculate.
Considering I find it all rather bizarre, even attempting to speculate is difficult. I seldom understand wth politicians are doing/thinking.

Corporate-style monetarist babble, obvs.

JVoV -> RE: The 7 things you can't say at the CDC (12/17/2017 7:08:10 AM)

Isn't it the job of the CDC to determine what areas or populations are vulnerable to any given disease? Are the elderly no longer vulnerable to the flu?

Can the CDC discuss fetal alcohol syndrome without mentioning the fetus?

Nice, very elegant to say so much with just the right word.

Is there to be a discussion on "fetal alcohol syndrome" or "vulnerable populations" in a budget report?

Did you read the OP, or just scan the headline and scan the words? If you just scanned the headline and words, you missed quite a bit of the story.

Perhaps you do not understand the significance of CDC budget reports. The term is used as a catch-all for all CDC Budget documents. This would include requests for funding for future projects, increases or reallocation of operating funds, and variance reports against current budget.

The elimination of key words, can significantly impact the entire current and future operations of the CDC.

This is Orwellian.

The sky isn’t falling. But this is still bullshit.

I can’t imagine why you would pretend otherwise.

Bullshit? Yeah.

Orwellian? Probably.

Impactful? I doubt it.

YES absolutely, there is to be a discussion on "fetal alcohol syndrome" or "vulnerable populations" in a budget report. Particularly if the CDC is working on those issues, and reporting status against their budget on them. (Or is requesting future funding to work on those issues)

You may be right, but, it's also possible you're not.

I truly don't believe this will be of any real consequence.

Having prepared budgets and prepared variance reports in the corporate world for over 15 years, I know what sorts of things are in them. I would say, in this case, there is a far greater chance of Mitch McConnell announcing this week that he is becoming a Democrat and that he secretly is a woman than me being wrong about this.
