Interesting. How I react is much in my control.

I can get aroused by having a girl over my knee, spanking her until she cries real tears.

Or I can do the exact same in punishing her.

And not be the least aroused, since I am not pleased with her.

It is the DSM-IV-TR that distinguishes between sexual sadism and non-sexual sadism.

And has several have pointed out...go back and read the prior versions of that manual...you'll find some very interesting,  rather commonplace "conditions" of today, that were also thought of as mental/personality disorders.  I think it more than a bit closed-minded to believe that because your motivations may be something other than sexually based, consenting adults enjoying engaging in sadistic activities is a disorder of any type.

I've always been of the mindset, as long as they are willing adult participants, it isn't something that should be seen in such a negative light as a "disorder" or mental illness. But then again, I'm quirky like that hehe

From experience and respectfully:

this girl's former Owner is known and an admitted sadist.

i liked it many times. the physical was hard but exciting.

Sad: the man would lie and twist my mind. He lied about other Doms to keep me ...in fear... to keep me his whipping pup. It went far past SSC.
He wants you to think he is cool. He has a good side, you can see.

The mean side is way beyond any play sadism, like many fair Doms said above.
This one,  he hurts and wants you to suffer because he can't know love, he never had love, thats why he will hurt your mind.

be careful.

Is a sadist a person who acts one way, or are there different kinds of sadists?  For pain? For mind games?  Whats your idea about how a sadist is?

A Person Who's Gradification Is Associated With Inflicting Physical or Mental Pain On Others.

Now How You Choose To Be A Sadist Is A Personal Choice.

Try Not To Put Labels On Others Or Yourself.......There Is No Wrong Or Right To This Question, Just Do What Feels Right To You.

Reply to OP:

There are those who enjoy inflicting suffering;  both physical and psychological.

Then there are those who enjoy inflicting  pleasureable "pain".

Im sure it could be sliced and diced much further than that, but I think thats a pretty good dividing line.

...yup- excellent dividing line - and can apply to both the fluffy masochists and the suffering m's also....
