I haven't seen it because I am not really into sappy love stories regardless of gender or sexuality.

I am however reminded of a study once done on hetro men that are hostile towards gay men. They put the men alone, individually, in a darkened room with a television. Each man had a measuring device on their penis. All of the men knew they were going to be seeing random pornography bits. Each and EVERY man that displayed hostility and strong negative views about homosexual men had a measured arrousal at the sight of homosexual pornography. The doctors had speculated as much. The interesting part of the whole study was that because they had extensively studied these subjects they refrained from telling all of them about the outcome of the study. They did not think that the men could handle knowing.

Emperor, That is very true. The towns up there do look like the towns here in the 60's and I though Wyoming was behind the times. I was shocked honestly at how much the scenery did look like the mountains where I grew up. It is amazing

I was very impressed by "Brokeback Mountain" on many levels;
cinematography, the natural scenery, the beauty of the two young men,
the hardships and human failings in their lives, and their
abiding need for each other. The story truly does transcend
being about any sexual orientation, it is a story of the human heart.

And yes, it moved me to tears in the theatre.

Okay, I finally watched the damn thing yesterday.

It was pretty good, great camera work, fine acting by the entire cast. I didn't like the end (so to speak); it just seemed too abrupt for Jake Gyllenhall's character to die the way he did.

On a scale of 1 to 10, I give it a solid 7.

I hated it, and not because it was about two gay men.  I thought, even for a love story, it pretty much sucked.  The story developed turtle slow, the characters were stiff and unlikable, yes, even the wives.  Hell, especially the wives.  If this had been a love story about a man and a woman, it wouldn't even have broken even at the box office.

I did think the one sex scene was probably more graphic than necessary, but no more graphic then typical sex scenes in movies.  Actually, less so then most.

It was boring, slow, and ended badly.  I pretty much felt like I wasted two hours of my life on that one.

I too have not seen the film. I never visit the cinema and I am not a fan of relationship type films mainly because Hollywood seems to be so mawkish, thats overly sentimental to you, when making them
I also dont want to see anything about men falling in ...err err err .....I carnt bring myself to say the word.
Thats nearly as bad as women bursting into tears every 5 minutes.

Somebody asked what the Lone Ranger and Tonto used to do, well the answer to that is right wrongs, thats what cowboys were for.
Its possible they may have masturbated now and then but not together of that  I am sure.
Nothing else OK !

If he is the lone ranger than why does he have a sidekick? Do writers actually think about these things when they write stuff? What goes through their heads obviously not logic that's for sure.

If I'mnot mistaken, LR was originally part of a team of Tx Rangers.  His crew all got killed somehow, and he was the lone survivor

(I forget details, but I read about this not too long ago, somewhere... I'll try to remember)

He slaughtered the whole bunch of them for not wanting to snuggle around the campfire.

In the UK we had a male  comedy couple Morecombe and Wise who actually used to go to bed together and nobody read anything into that.
So it can be done OK?

Having said all that I did find  LR's tight trousers quite alluring. he he he he
