as a newly diagnosed type 2 diabetic i thank each of you for posting here, as this information has been helpful to me as well. but i now have a few questions of my own. are there any of you that when you were first diagnosed with diabetes that were terrified? if so, what did you do to cope? how did you tell your loved ones that you have diabetes and how did they take it? i have told my dad and he seemed to take it better than i thought, but my thoughts are that after we hung up he was most likely upset by the fact his baby girl has diabetes, but didn't want to worry me. i go for counselling soon at the Canadian Diabetes Clinic with a dietitian soon to learn more about the diet they tend to put us diabetics on. if i'm reading right the things to do are: eat first, have plenty of orange juice or a 1/4 cup of regular soda, hard candies and the glucometer close at hand just in case, and make sure Master is aware of any signs that i need to stop. i know that i went for a walk today and oh my God, when i got done shopping, standing at the cashiers i started feeling really shaky, so instead of continuing with my walk i came home and tested myself and had something to eat, went to lay down for a bit and was fine after. i know nothing of diabetes other than some of the complications it can have such as: glucoma, kidney failure and high or low sugars. i thank each of you for your help and advice for a newly diagnosed diabetic and hope that all of you have a great weekend.
