mistoferin -> Real remedies for subbie flu? (1/3/2005 11:04:21 PM)

I have gone back through old posts and can't seem to find a real solution, hopefully someone here may have the answer. I seem to be one of those lucky ones that gets a whopping case of sub drop, generally about 2 to 3 days after a scene. I get a headache, chills, body aches, roller coaster emotions, weepy, can't sleep well and a general inability to really focus and organize thoughts. I HATE this part. I am normally a very upbeat person and hardly ever get down over anything, but these bouts just knock the wind right out of my sails. Sir is very attentive and caring and does all He can to get me through it, beginning with after care immediately following the scene to lots of tenderness and reassurance for the days following. Does anyone out there know of something that can alleviate this or possibly ward it off for future occasions. I have been getting this consistently for years, occurring a few days after a scene. One thing that some say might be a contributing factor is that we tend to play rather heavily. Supplements? Over the counter stuff? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

this sounds exactly like the affects of the hormonal flux--welcome to being a woman! soy supplements, ice packs, long hot soaks in the tub and naps are always helpful here.

Exercise, what you are experiencing is the endorphin & adrenelin crash, exercise will help. Options - go to a gymn before the onset of the drop, or walk briskly, go to a pool etc. You are dealing with body chemistry, you want it to rebalance naturally and that means getting your enorphins & adrenelin up to a level where you will coast down instead of crash. Whatever physical activity you enjoy at least 30 minutes each day before your normal crash time.

After all the things Mercnbeth said, might try some chinese hot'n sour soup.
I recommend it to anyone even thinking of coming down with anything.

Back Flower remedies rescue remedie. It is good for this sort of things. Calming stones like rose quarts, or grounding stones like hematite can be good to. If the problem is severe i recomand to go and see a doctor.

From what i've read on other threads that might not be a good idea if you have marks. The doc may report abuse. Maybe it can be discussed with a doc at a time when there are no marks.

nella -> RE: Real remedies for subbie flu? (1/4/2005 10:16:58 AM)

YOu should talk whit your doctor and explain things, but if you have a medical problem i recomand a doctor, marks or no marks.

Thank you all so much for the ideas. Mercnbeth, I really value what you have to say in your posts as they are always so well thought out. I will definitely be making a trip today for the soy supplements. LadyShoshin, what perfect sense!!!! Actually, after reading your post I looked back and remembered the time in my life when I was very actively exercising and realized that the problem with this seemed not so bad at that time. So far today I have walked 4 miles, taken a hot bath and a nap. I feel so much better already. Maybe some Chinese Hot & Sour soup for dinner? Nella, I have not heard of the Back Flower remedy, is this something available at a health food store? Thank you once again for all the ideas.....this is just such a horrible period of time for me always that I just dread it knowing it will come. I knew there had to be some new things I could try.

Sweeticing -> RE: Real remedies for subbie flu? (1/4/2005 3:28:07 PM)

ok this is just a thought please do not take it the wrong way. But is it a possibility that you may have a drop in your serotonin levels.Which could cause all the symptoms you talked about. You may need to let a doctor know and have it check you may just need prozac or effexor.

Thank you very much Nella, those are very interesting links. I have bookmarked them and will do some serious looking into them tomorrow. I like the fact that they use natural ingredients.

mistoferin -> RE: Real remedies for subbie flu? (1/4/2005 6:06:45 PM)

Sweeticing,
Thank you and don't worry that I take that the wrong way. Actually, I do know that I have fluctuations in my serotonin levels as I am also a migraine sufferer and that has been closely linked with serotonin levels. I will toss this possibility over with my doc the next time I am in to see him. Serotonin is produced while we sleep and there used to be a natural product on the market called L-tryptophan(sp?) that used to help me greatly. Unfortunately it was pulled after there were some problems with one specific brand that was imported from Japan. Body builders and athletes were using it in very high doses and began having some very negative results. I used only the recommended amounts and it was like a wonder supplement for me. It is the same thing that is in turkey that makes you so sleepy after a turkey dinner.

Thanks for the great tip on exercise and physical activity, which makes a lot of sense. I usually expeience some kind of sub drop also several days after play and like the idea of being able to avoid it and do something constructive about the problem, especially since my play at this time is with play partners only and I end up dealing with the problem on my own.

I was thinking of that too. St. Johns wart works pretty well.

ARoseAndAnEye -> RE: Real remedies for subbie flu? (1/5/2005 2:47:16 PM)

I, to much the same degree, experience identical "post scene" symptoms. While I don't get emotional, the physical aspect of the subbie flu, as you have dubbed it [:)], can be profound. I am physically DEAD, sometimes for 2 or 3 days. Sleep all day... don't want to eat, don't want to move.. don't want to get up to so much as pee. Fortunately, Master and I joke about it: to us its a sign of a successful scene. To me its confirmation that I have been to a place I needed to get to.

FangsNfeet -> RE: Real remedies for subbie flu? (1/5/2005 8:38:15 PM)

Yup you are getting good advice. There are good ways to get over Subbyflu, Session Hangover, Subspace the day after. What ever you call it.

Exercise, Good diet, Green tea and other antitoxins, rest, and such.

Don't forget about aftercare. After care is important. Do you get to cuddle up close you your dom and get a nice massage? How much sleep do you get after going through subspace? Do you get to stretch before a session? What happens after your sessions?

Other than that it's good to have a healthy amount of protein in you as well as vitamins, and lots and lots of water. Water is good for water is life. Have plenty of water before and after your session.

Other than that we do have a section for Health and Safty. No that it bothers me where you make this post but wasn't what I was expecting in the general discussion.

i'd do some research before going out and getting some soy supliments. There is a lot of info out there saying that soy can damage the thyroid. i'll admit i'e not done much checking into it. During my veggie phase i ate a lot of soy. i don't now because 1) if i'm going to eat meat i'd rather it be real 2) i'm having enough trouble getting rid of these extra pounds so i don't want to take the chance.

Suleiman -> RE: Real remedies for subbie flu? (1/6/2005 10:33:51 PM)

What you are describing is basically a physiological reaction to that most addictive of substances, ENDORPHINES. It's a form of withdrawl symptom. Your body gets a nice high dose of endorphines, and then burns out. You literally overtax your brains ability to generate those lovely euphoria-inducing hormones. My advice is to remedy this the next day and day after with chocolate. The theobromine in chocloate closely mirrors endorphines, and can act to boost your overall endorphine levels without trying to squeeze any more out of your brain. You might also consider increasing your intake of protien in your diet, not by much but have something protien rich with every meal. Eat something starchy or sugary like a carrot, baked potato, or cookie right before bedtime (no cheese, milk, or other protien, though - just sugar or starch). The sudden insulin spike will help your body transform the amino acids in the already digested protien into useful hormones.

i love it an excuse to eat chocolate lol. Actually Master always gives me chocolate after a scene. Of course not right after the scene as some have understood it
i always knew He was smart.

Destinysskeins -> RE: Real remedies for subbie flu? (1/7/2005 7:06:47 AM)

A few suggestions, though keep in mind that i'm not a nutritionist by any means...

Since sub-drop, and yours in particular, can be compared to a type of shock perhaps treating it similarly might help. i'd suggest energy boosting supplements such as Vitamin B complexes combined with doses of electrolytes (Gatorade, electrolyte powder/paste, etc). Be mindful of how everything interacts (including any other remedies you might be experimenting with) with each other - 'net info, health food stores, pharmacies should be able to lend you information on these topics.
