Where do you get this statistic of Americans being the most overweight nation? i would like the reference to this.  Perhaps in your travels, since you were a tourist, you weren't really seeing the natives of the land but others tourists. Maybe overweight people don't travel as tourists as much - i mean so amny assumptions can be made.

i am not saying we don't have a problem in this country. i personally think it starts in childhood. Just take a look at school lunches and vending machines. Look at all the parents who allow their children to drink soda. Look at the snacks kids bring to school.  How can you blame an adult with a weight problem when the habits for such were ingrained in them from birth!  i have seen women give infants sweet deserts... why!?!?!?!

i am overweight and have done the lose/gain/lose/gain deal.  As a mother of 2 i was diligent in raiising my children with a healthy diet. Thankfully both are not overweight. One is 5f6 and weighs 105 - i personally would like to see her a few pounds heavier.  They don't crave sweets because as babies and children they weren't allowed them.  And believe it or not - people told me i was depriving my children and being cruel!!!!!!!!  Both daughters are grateful to me and are now alway son my case LOL..... they tell me they don't want me to die early lol.  That may motivate me. Certainly 100% more then a dom ordering me to because i don't fit his image of his dream sub.

Velvet, when I was in Ireland in the country up in N.W. Donegal there aren't many "tourists" there except to see Enya's father's pub.
I go off the beaten path and mix with the locals and don't see any obese people among them because they're mostly farmers up there and everyone walks all the time.
And as for the "statistic" of Americans being the most overweight they said on the news that obesity is now an "epidemic" in this country.
I really think that seeing what I've seen in Ireland that we in the U.S. need to take a lesson from the Erin Isle and start *walking* a lot more.
That being said I'm off to the beach for a five mile walk in the sand!
Later!

A walk in the surf is a great exercise as well.

i heard years ago in one of my psych classes that the Irish had the highest shizophrenic population per capita. i remember it being speculated that it had something to do with potato consumption since the Irish eat substantially more then other cultures?  Seemed like a stretch to me lol.  Also that the Irish have a very high percentage of people with heart disease due to their using bacon grease to fry foods in.  Thin doesn't always equate with healthy INSIDE.  my Uncle is a stick firgure and his cholesterol was in the 400's, mine is within normal range.  And he was a runner - ran 3 miles a day - Go figure. And i am part Irish by the way ;-)

Velvetears, I try at least to keep myself in good shape for a prospective sub/slave and I feel it's only right that they should do the same.
Sure, I could stop walking and biking and start eating four or five times a day and get to be a porker but I just don't want to do that.
If I put on an extra 20 pounds I just don't feel good and my clothes just don't fit me.
And, walking and biking is fun!

If doms could "order" their subs to loose weight all subs or slaves would be within the normal range,

Hello A/all,

This is not quite true.  There is a branch of D/s Dominant types known colloquially as "Feeders" who hook up with a submissive to see how obese they can make her.

Doesnt work for me, but split infinitives (all Doms) are generally incorrect and unprovable.

Just me, etc.

Second I was reading the ad of a submissive who refuses to speak to any Dom/Master who would want her to quit smoking or lose weight. What struck me is that I want to own my girl for a very long time.

(Snipped for brevity and to illustrate my point)
The issue that strikes me is that she is not a car!  She is not an inanimate object.  Slaves may be considered property, but they are human property.  Slaves may be objectified, but they are never less than human, no matter what use is made of them.
Slaves, unlike inanimate objects, are living, breathing, thinking, feeling people.

*Applauds* WELL said!!!

Also, it has to be added that SOME men and women actually prefer us chunkier types. If we were all little skinny minis there would be some very sad people out there.

Second I was reading the ad of a submissive who refuses to speak to any Dom/Master who would want her to quit smoking or lose weight. What struck me is that I want to own my girl for a very long time. That means that I want her to be as healthy as humanly possible. Obesity and smoking are 2 of the most dangerous things one can do to their body. I look at the behavior and habits of the girl that I'm involved with and make adjustments as I see fit and as negotiated.

STOP HIJACKING THREADS WITH WEIGHT ISSUES AND OPINIONS!!!!!

Don't think the thread has been hijacked at all,  OP mentioned habits and behaviors, and Popeye mentioned there must be some habit or behavior causing weight issues, and we're discussing the validity of that comment.

i'm pointing out the fallacy that many trim people believe.. "If I could control your diet and exercise for a month, I could show you what you're doing wrong and fix you."

If it were that easy, doctors would just check all overweight people in hospitals for 30 days, make a ton of money, and cure the world of heavy patients.

How about sticking to the topic.  Which wasn't -strictly- about weight. It was about the overall health and willingness of those seeking or involved to change their habits.  The example given just happened to be a female who smoked and was overweight.  Why not take this thread to a different level rather than beat the deadoverweighthorse?  Why not talk about peoples' unwillingness to change all sorts of bad habits? Why always zero in and repeat the same old crap about weight?

Why not talk about smoking?  Or other bad habits?  Perhaps nosepicking.  I don't know.  Anything.  Or how about one might go about helping that person in subtle ways to realize their own situation to help themselves by finally deciding to change?  Methods, theories?

Honey, you obviously missed the "want to be used as a toilet fetish" thread or "where do I get instructions on setting my sub on fire" thread. LOL

Thank you, DelRay for that one.

ORIGINAL: popeye1250   As for me if I ever became overweight I'd just stop eating for a week or so and walk more.

Popeye,
*sigh* i mean this with every amount of respect and integrity that i can muster...However, currently i feel as though i've lost a great deal of respect for You in my book. (which i understand is simply my issue, an not one You should concern Yourself with)
i know i've posted my experience with this issue in the past, and i'm sure i'll be flamed for doing it here. But at this point in time, i'm soo losing all respect for this forum that it doesn't appear to matter much (it is okay flame me for that comment as well!!)
Here's the deal...i understand that You are tired of everyone using "medical excuses" and so  am i, frankly....Although, i'll tell You i have them.. I had my thyroid removed and no on thought to put me on any replacement until i had gained well over 100 pounds... Does that help me to sleep any better at night knowing it was a "medical excuse"? No!! Does it help me respect myself more when i have to look in the mirror? No!! Does it decrease the amount of shame and horror i feel anytime anyone on these damned sights asks for a freaking picture? No!!
Sorry, a little rant there..Anyway, back to Your original post.. i remember about two years ago i was working out like a maniac.. I would work out in the morning with a friend of mine, walk a mile, then come home in the evening and walk 2 or 3 miles with my neighbor.. Did i eat out? No!! Did i eat? Hardly!! a piece of cheese lasted me for over a week!!! Did i drink soda? No!! the only thing i drank was water!!! *sigh* do You know how much weight i lost that summer while doing all of this (You know the popeye weight loss plan?) NONE!!! Not one freaking pound!!! Not a ever loving inch!!!!
i don't really know why i'm bothering to write this, because frankly the posts i've been reading on here lately continue to make me feel worse and worse about myself..And if i had a freaking brain in my head i would just log off and not log back on!! But, apparently i don't cause i'm still here...
At any rate, i just wanted to tell You to please be careful when You are dispensing dietary and weight loss advice... Because frankly, that's one of the most dangerous things i've ever done.. (and trust me, i've done plenty of stupid, thoughtless, dangerous things!!)
Back to what the OP said about sub/slaves not wanting to have any contact with a Dom who wants them to lose wieght...i guess i understand what they are saying in theory..Although, personally, i also know i was best when i had a Master who made me tell him every day what exercise i had done and what all i had eaten..Did i lost weight? no, but did i at least not cringe when i saw myself in the mirror? yes!!
