I'm starting to think that this shaving business is more difficult because i'm overweight =/

This means that, first of all, my outter labia is very full.....and the hairy parts turn inwards, and its really difficult to shave those bits.
Second, my lower belly roll prevents me from being able to SEE what i'm doing. This also leaves skin-on-skin contact in some areas.

When you guys say "grain".....what exactly do you mean? should i be bringing that razor down, top to bottom, or what?

Sometimes I just shave with an electric razor, it doesn't give me the bumps, but i'm unhappy with my current razor, its like the battery won't charge fully, and its only at half-strenth.

I shaved......monday. and i still have bumps, and itchyness, and I'll be seeing my boy tomorrow. I'm pondering using my Veet, since the hairs are so short right now, but concerned for irritation. Ive been using Goldbond powder at night before bed, and its getting better.

oy.
what a pain.
I've n ever been waxed, and because I'm overweight, I don't really want to go get professionally waxed. =/

Use a good quality razor.
If your hair is long, first trim it short.
Shower or bathe for a few minutes in warm water.
Lather with soap or shave cream.
Shave with the grain of the hair.
For an extra close shave, then shave across the grain.

Use a moisturizer and wear something loose fitting for awhile.

i love the smoothness of waxing, but OH!  the pain!  The first few times i waxed just the mons and bikini, but last time i also waxed the vulva, and the smoothness was amazing.    ummmm.  ok.  i survived it.  Here's how.  Take advil about 20 minutes before you wax.  That honestly does help.  There is  also a skin numbing spray that you can use, but i'm not sure if it's that effective.  And if the advil doesn't help, try a couple of glasses of wine.  At the least, you'll be happy while you're waxing.

The whole time i was doing it, i kept thinking, "geez, i wish i were a pain slut."

Ladytramp...i know what you are saying. It has nothing to be over weight just all those damn tiny spaces. I just found these small razors made for just that. They are usually next to the Bikini shaving stuff. It got areas i never thought i could shave.

Definitely go with the coochy cream!  I used to sell sex toys and other products at home parties and that was my best seller.  Best way to use it is to apply it to the pubic hair and let it sit for about a minute or so to soften the hair and skin (don't glob it on because it will clog the razor).  Then use a new sharp razor, the venus is great like people have said, and shave in the direction your hair is growing.  When you're done shaving, take a bit more of the coochy cream and rub it into the skin as a moisturizer.  Do that step everyday in between shavings to keep the skin and hair soft.  Trust me, it works great.  On a side note, the coochy cream works great as intensive hair conditioner one or twice a week.  Just put it on the ends since it really moisturizes.

There is also a product called Magic Shave that is like Nair only works great.  Smells horrible when doing it kind of a sulfar smell but it does the job wonderfuly. Can be found in the isle with the shaving products and is typically used by black men to prevent razor bumps.

I am an extremely large woman and I shave every three days.  I am lucky enough to have a custom built shower with a very large bench, so some acrobatics are used.  I love the Ladies Shick Intuition razor, it has it's own moisturizing soap attached to the razor.  I am careful about knowing where the razor is down there and knowing my anatomy.  I love the feel of being nice and smooth all the time.
Also, like the others here, take your time and enjoy the activity, even better if someone else is doing it for you.

Ok, I'm about to dang well give up!
I bought the vibrating Venus. I even laid a hot washcloth over my pubic area...i used plenty of moisturizing sudysness. I shaved with the grain. Not only could I not get a perfectly smooth and completely hairless result, here I am the next day, irritated and itchy.

I found the Veet mousse prevented best the day-after itchyness and such, but it wasn't consistent with removing all the hairs, and sometimes it even burned afterwards.

The last time I had a really decent electric razor I was able to get the seriously smooth result...I guess that women's rechargable razors don't last very long or something, but I guess I'm getting a new one =/

I have sensitive skin and the things that work for me are coochy creme, coochy creme after shave spray and sally hansens no more bumps wipes. Always use a new razor when shaving that area. Waxing, shaving cremes and gels all irritate me. These are the things I have found to work. You have to use them religiously.   Good luck to you.

I tried the vibrating razor that VEnus comes out with.  I was nick central, what a horrid idea that was. Never ever ever again.
I do, however, like the Venus razor.  I use Skintimate shave gel for the first go over. Get alll the obvious bits and such.  Then , if I think it needs a second go, I use bar soap (whatevers handy) for the second round.  Makes for a much smoother shave. Afterwards, there is an anti bump and anti irritation gel caled Bikini Zone that I love. That or neutrogena body oil, when I can manage to remember to buy it.

Dear illuminati1, smilinguy, Ladies and Gentlemen;

First, I wanted to say this has been a good thread.

Secondly, BRAVO to smilinguy for posting on this thread as well.  Men shaving down under have a few things that causes issues for close shaves but, they also have the advantage of having their genitals external and not inward.

That said, I would look for products that address 'side burns' and 'mustache trimmers' for the small areas where the standard razors are too bulky to go.

I do feel for those overweight, as I am also.  Its physically a torture to shave and handles are never long enough to curve.  A set of mirrors will help 'see' but, its really a pain to take the time.

But, I wanted to point out something, I haven't seen mentioned.  And, that is, the skin must be held taunt.

I also had in my mind's eye, that there might be more to these shaving bumps, itches and such.  People may/can have allergies to plastic, metals and some chemical agents in products.  So, no matter what you do, it might not be the products--it might be your body reacting in an allergy response.  May want to rub Benedryl cream to see if that will calm the area.  Might want to consult with a doctor about your skin.

Now, as some know--I'm old.  In my early days in the scene, slaves shaved their owners and owners shaved their slaves.  I don't think that it is too much to ask for that to be done, if you have shaving frustrations.  It was usually designated to a personal slave.  So, that a dominant could just sit back and relax. Although, the fad in Europe was for dominants to keep their pubic hair; slaves shaved a woman's legs and arm pits as she laid reclined and relaxed.  Male dominants, would have their face shaved.  Dominants shaved slave's genitals and let the slaves shave the rest of themselves.

Just some thoughts.

Respectfully submitted for consideration,
Lady Hugs

I don't bother buying shave cream or gels.  I always had the worst burns and bumps from those.

Recently I've found that the Johnson & Johnson lavender body wash is great for this activity, as is any of the baby stuff they put out.  I've yet to use the baby oil, though I think I might pick some up today.

Definitely hot water to help soften up the skin. As others have said, I will wait until after other activities to really softenup the skin.  I too have long hair (to the tush) so that tends to take a little while.

Go with the grain at first to remove as much of the hair as possible with the least amount of force.  For me, I -have- to go against the grain to get the little bits. I'd have to press pretty effin hard with the grain to get the little stuff, so I go gently against the grain in certain spots, but not all over.

I've learned that the least of the irritation for me is on the labia. The most of the irritation comes when I shave that flat area an inch and higher above the outer labia.  So for some reason I can go to town on the lower region to get that super-smooth feel, but have to be super careful above. The most amount of gentleness and froth from whatever wash or soap I'm using.  I've also acquired a most lovely whole milk bar of soap that is just utter BLISS on the skin.  I use it for all-over washing and tested it out on my shaving exploits and it is just, the most awesome I've used to date.

So I guess for me that anything with a high moisturizing level works great, but for serious agitation, something more natural with milk in it seems to work the best.  But, I've noticed that with the change in a person's skin chemistry, a change in product once in a while is a good thing.

As a finishing touch, I tend to use the pain relieving cream that they put in some home-waxing kits.  After complete failure with the rest of the box's contents. :)  It's a topical anesthetic specifically created for use *down there* and safe on most types of sensitive skin.  A little bit goes a loooong way too.

Honestly, I use Veet sensitive Formula Hair removal cream. You can only leave it on for a maximum of 10 minutes, and have to wait for 48 hours in between use. The first time I used it, it didn't remove all the hair, but the second application 2 days later did. Now what I do, is use the cream. later that day i apply Gillette after shave gel to the entire area, helps cool the skin. The next morning I use a small amount of Aveeno Positively Smooth lotion. It is one of those lotions that helps reduce shaving. I think it helps soften the hair, personally. Then on the 3 or 4th day I repeat the entire process. Now a days i can wait almost 5 days in between applications because the hair is barely noticable but I still do this twice a week.

I agree 100% with Coochy cream and with new razors, etc.  Also, as a busty overweight woman...you just have to get accustomed to your ability to feel your way around (even mirrors don't help me see everything).  But the thing that I have discovered, as I have gone from being clean-shaven to grown in and back again, is that the first shave that I do after I have grown my hair back in is ALWAYS a problem.  Lots of bumps, burns and other unpleasantness.  I don't know if it is my tendency to want to get it perfectly smooth and so I get too overzealous, or what, but it is always bad.  If I can just suffer through that shave though, about three days later I can shave again, and this one is always much better.  And soon I get to the point where I can shave every two to three days without any razor burns or bumps.  I almost think it is like my skin is toughening up or something.  Anyway, for those of you who have a lot of trouble...try sticking it out for the course of a week or two and see if it doesn't get much easier.

To those of us girls/Women who are heavy set (trying to be polite):

i too have a problem with shaving down below, so what i do is one of two things:

i hold up the extra belly roll and put a foot on the toilet, i stand up at the bathroom sink to shave as i find it easier and it allows me to see some of the skin when it's pulled taut, but i also lean back just a little bit and shave, then rinse with warm water and pat dry, then apply the baby powder.

the second thing i have tried and i found i got more hair this way is: lay on a bed with a towel under my butt, a bucket of hot water, a new razor each time i need to shave down there (i'm lucky so far and can go at least a week before i have to shave now if not longer), lots of shave cream, conditioner or soap (depends on my mood as to which i use) and then i hold up the belly roll, shave both with and against the grain, rinse, pat dry, apply baby powder and let the fan blow on it for a bit to help it cool off and not sting if i have accidentally cut myself.

He has growled when i told Him that i cut myself down there and told me to be more careful, then i giggle and tell Him the only way i can be more careful is if i find someone to shave me down there, to which His reply is that would be fun to watch...........turning my cheeks a million different shades of red, all the while thinking thank God i don't have that phone with the view screen on it so He can see my face or that thank God my cam isn't on so He can see it.

He knows just how hard it is for me to shave down there and has promised that when we are together i won't have that problem *whimpers softly wondering, no knowing what He has in store* any more and that i'll be real happy to not have to shave/wax there and i won't have that horrible itch as the hair grows back.

Blessed Be, Take Care, Stay Safe, Have Fun, Play Hard, Be As Evil As Can Be *weg*
