This is kind of an embarresing question for me to be asking but, I need to ask it. I have bbeen told by a Dom that is going to be training that I am to be shaved down there or waxed. The problem is is that i have VERY sensitive skin down there. I tried waxing this morning and it left welts so I had to stop.

Does any one have any suggestions on how to shave down there without leaving razors burns and severly rritating sensitive skin?

My skin is extremely sensitive too, and I also had problems with wax (never do it close to your period, by the way).  Someone in the Health Forum a long time ago suggested a product called Coochy Cream, and a few others raved about it.  I tried it.  I'll never use anything else.  It's a stupid name in my opinion, but leaves my skin very soft.  That, followed by Nutrogena body oil, and I'm a new woman.  [;)]

I found that a good razor and shave gel  followed by a rich intense moisturiser, I use the Venus razor and shave gel with aloe vera then the body shops coconut body butter designed for dry skin ... I have hyper sensitive skin also...

Venus razor- the best

behindmirrors -> RE: Shaving...down below (10/8/2006 5:53:40 PM)

I'm also kept shaved in those parts, haha. And I too have the sensitive skin problem. I have waxed once, but never again if I do it myself- a professional, I think, would do a much better job and a less miserable one. Should I get collared by my Dom in the future (I'm in training to earn his collar), I may just put up the cash for permanent removal, since this process isn't pleasant most of the time- my figuring is that the amount I'll spend on that will be the same as the lifetime total I would spend on various shaving and waxing products, and this way I only have to do it once.

The Venus razors are alright. I use the Quattro men's razor- it's good. Leaves me less irritated and it's small and easy to maneuver down there. I haven't had problems with it, and it does an excellent job.

My skincare for it goes like this:
1. Get in shower.
2. Let water run over the parts I'm shaving.
3. Exfoliate with a small loofah that has been softened in the water (or a washcloth), using a face wash with salycilic acid (I go for the Clearsil sensitive skin one). The acid helps with exfoliation. Wash this off when done exfoliating.
4. Apply copious amounts of shaving gel (I use one with aloe, don't remember what it's called but you can drop me a note if you want).
5. Shave with the grain of the hair first until it's really short.
6. Reapply shaving gel.
7. Shave against the grain until I'm hairless very gently.
8. Wash off shaving cream, gently apply the face wash with my hands, and rinse off.
9. Once out of the shower and dried off, apply a soothing lotion to the shaved areas carefully. I use an all natural one that smells like sandalwood, because it makes me feel happy.
10. Replace the blades really regularly. Don't use a dull one EVER!

That's my routine. Anyway, hope it helps.

I agree.. nothing beats the Venus!
I have very sensitive skin as well, so I use Dove bar soap(white). Works better than any shave creme or gel, not sure why, but something in the ones I've tried always irritate my skin, and the shave never seems as close.

But I've been wondering.. what about the ones with the battery? I can't imagine they shave better, but they sound interesting none the less..[;)]

illuminati1 -> RE: Shaving...down below (10/8/2006 7:19:11 PM)

Haha. Add a little pleasure to the shaving, huh? I'll have to get me one with the batteries, see if I can't find one that vibes. [:D]

AquaticSub -> RE: Shaving...down below (10/8/2006 8:02:41 PM)

I use the inspiration razor (the ones with the huge hunk of lather soap attached to the razor) and I've never been happier. I'm a curvey woman and because of my breasts I can't see what I'm doing down there most of the time but I'm happy to report I've never cut myself and my dom is very happy with the results.

atropa7 -> RE: Shaving...down below (10/9/2006 8:03:30 AM)

I wax the mons and bikini line, and shave the vulva (the pain is too much for me to wax there). But I too have very sensitive skin, and get 'welts' after waxing. Some suggestions and observations:

Get it done professionally and don't use the cheap home kits at the grocer's, they contain a cheap wax substitute that pulls away skin more readily. Baby powder on the skin also helps keep the wax from pulling away anything other than hair. If you're still suffering skin-shearing problems, you may have a mild fungal infection and need to see a dermatologist.

Take 200 to 400 mg of an OTC anti-inflammatory (advil for me) a half hour before waxing.

Those bumps where the hair follicle was ripped out will disappear in a day if you start with clean, dry skin.

On shaving:
I wash my (very long) hair first to give my body hair a chance to relax in the heat of the shower.

I was a Venus follower, before being given a free quattro for women. I love it and can't live without it now.

As a bigger girl, I have to use my free hand to pull the skin being shaved taut so that as much of the hair shaft is exposed. Exfoliating also helps expose more hair shaft as it removes the dead skin cells that build up in a microscopic cone around the shaft of the hair.

Don't go from a hot, steamy shower/bathroom to a cold room right away, you will get goose bumps and that in my experience leads to many more ingrown hairs.

You can never have too much soap. :)

subsa -> RE: Shaving...down below (10/9/2006 3:28:27 PM)

there was a shaving demo at a party i went to this weekend.  here's what they had to say:

1- use a single edge blade, either the cheapy disposable kind or the old-fashioned safety razors. this is for a couple of reasons...if it's cheap enough you won't be tempted to use the razor more than once.  it's imperative to use a new razor every time. and using the new razors with multiple blades gets a closer shave but it pulls the hair shaft out from below  the skin and so cuts the hair below the skin's surface.  when the hair springs back the 'point' is below the skin and can lead to irritation and ingrown hairs.

2- moisture moisture moisture.  the soak in the tub is a good idea as is the use of a moisturizing conditioner in place of shaving cream (my suggestion not the demo).

3- technique...hold the razor close to the head to allow for more control.  don't put downward pressure on the razor.  instead slowly pull (in the direction of the hair growth; never against)across the skin allowing it to glide.  try to achieve long strokes.  try not to go over the same spot of skin twice (as in using short, choppy strokes).  rinse or wipe teh blade frequently.

4- after care...never using anything with alcohol as it's drying and irritating to the skin. aloe vera was suggested at the demo but i prefer a bikini specific product (get the kind with the antibiotic in it).

this techinique won't get you the closest shave on the first go round but it will get you an irritation free shave. and so you can do it more often which will give you the close shave you (or your Master) might desire.  hth

Heh heh well my Venus is the new one with the battery, the vibrations do actually make for a closer better shave...thats the only point of interest...honest...

If you mean Intuition, that's what i use too and love it, but the refills are pretty expensive.

smilinguy -> RE: Shaving...down below (10/9/2006 11:07:32 PM)

I shave everywere from my face down to my toes, and end up using 3 different razors to do it. I have very sensitive skin  and will get irritation even when I'm careful. I'd like to do permanent hair removal in places were I get irritated the most but don'w know how much it costs. For my chest, arms, and legs, I use a couple of Lady Remmington WDF 6000 electric razors with hypoallergenic foils on them. For my pubic hair and privates, I use a Body Bare electric razor. And for my beard, I use a Norelco razor.

I've found that using Nair or the equivalent leaves me with acid burns, and I'm a clumsy oaf when it comes to razor blades, so electric is the way to go for me. Hope that helps!

If you can afford it laser is the way to go. I love it never have to shave again but it is expensive. Over the years tho the cost of shaving  supplies and then the time since time is money. I do think its more economical.

DivaDuchess -> RE: Shaving...down below (10/10/2006 6:28:04 PM)

Wet area with HOT water, baby oil (liberally), shave with a Venus razor with the grain (NEVER against it), follow up with Neutrogena cream.

That's always worked for me and I've been shaving my pubic hair and my slaves for almost 15 years (for the slaves) and since I was 14 for myself.

Good luck to you.
