The problem with being a Jet fan isn't whether you're allowed to be one.  It's why the fuck anyone would still want to be one after all these years of futility.

I'm a masochist.

You're a Jet fan too???

(I mean, I knew you were a masochist; I didn't know you were a Jet fan.)

lol, come on, you two, you know things change. Mangini has them playing so far over their heads, I don't think they realize that they're not supposed to be doing so well. Give him a couple of good drafts, and who knows where ya'll be.

Lordandmaster -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (10/23/2006 9:48:54 AM)

I said I was pretty astounded that they're 4-3, but that doesn't change the fact that they suck.

If you check Wikipedia and look up masochist you'll see right there...a pic of a crazy Jets fan.  Face painted and all.  Yup...Jets fan here.  For as much as I can get into a game.  I would prefer HGTV on a lazy Sunday, but that's not allowed in the house.

Mercnbeth -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (10/23/2006 9:59:44 AM)

Sorry Aileen, you don't have to be a masochist to be a Jet fan, but it does help. I too have been one since the "Joe Willie" days. Maybe it's how I get balance in my life. I can rely on being a winning fan as a Yankee fan, as long as 'winning' isn't defined to the post season in most recent times. But back in the days of Ross Moschito and Horace Clark the Jets carried the winners banner.

There are a group of us, now spread all over the county, who have sworn an oath to meet at the Superbowl whenever the Jets again reach that goal. We joke that we should get pretty good seats since we may all be in wheelchairs by the time it happens.

Lordandmaster -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (10/23/2006 10:04:17 AM)

If the Jets ever get to the Superbowl, the tickets will be sold out within 5 minutes.

I don't think they'll last that long. But it's been at least 10 years since I bought any ticket from a "normal" source anyway.

Merc, was Hoffa one of the group? He knew it'd be awhile, so he went ahead and got his place first.... [:D]

cloudboy -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (10/23/2006 10:40:34 AM)

Did you lust after Matt Leinhart on draft day like Mike Lupica did?

Lordandmaster -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (10/23/2006 10:57:56 AM)

I understood why they took D'Brickashaw Ferguson.  Actually, I don't think the Jets did all that poorly in the draft.

cloudboy -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (10/23/2006 11:02:21 AM)

Maybe so, but you missed your chance to take a swing a Lupica.

I'm wondering if Billick can do a better job than Fassel with the Raven's offense.

Lordandmaster -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (10/23/2006 11:04:11 AM)

I bet he can't.

Edited to add: About Lupica.  Chad Pennington had seriously worn out his welcome, and that's why many people were clamoring for a new quarterback.  Aside from his "honor and privilege" foot-in-mouth routine, there were serious questions about his arm strength after what I think was his second surgery on the same arm.  But whatever you have to say about him, he's been very good this year in six out of their seven games.  (He was atrocious in the loss to Jacksonville.)  So score one for the Jets brass; they were right to focus on their line and trust the quarterback they had.

Ferguson should be a regular in Hawaii for the next decade; I'm hoping Mario Williams doesn't turn out to be a bust, and Reggie Bush the second coming of Tony Dorsett.

Lordandmaster -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (10/23/2006 11:09:35 AM)

You know, Reggie Bush is FUCKING lucky to have Drew Brees as his quarterback, because I really don't think he'd be making such a big impact with Aaron Brooks or whatever nincompoop they had before Brees.  He'd be crashing into the line and getting two yards per carry.  Bush is a back who needs to have special plays designed for him, and as talented as he is, that makes him less valuable in my mind than someone like George Rogers, the last Saints super-rookie.

George Rogers was a hammer, you got that right, Lam.

servantforuse -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (10/23/2006 11:18:34 AM)

To fangsnfeet,,, The Miami Dolphins were undefeated in 1972. They are the only pro team of any sport to accomplish that Earl Morrell and Bob Griese were the quarterbacks. Marv Fleming who has 4 Super Bowl rings, 2 with the Packers and 2 with Miami was also on the undefeated team..GO PACK

now I find this funny... cause as many numbers as bush is puttin up... you cannot discount Deuce... who can bull through 4 defenders like they're tacklin dummies... Joe horn who has proven time and time again your name don't have to be Lynn swann, or jerry rice to catch a ball and run with it.  And what about the other new kid?  Stecker?  Brees is great becauase of the team around him... if Archie Manning had this team... hang it up folks.  Th Saint's would have had about 4 superbowl rings about 20 years ago...

One of the saddest stories in the NFL. Archie Manning gave his all for one of the most horrific teams in league history, and if that isn't bad enough, they finally trade him to the Oilers, just when that team hit bottom.
