Time will tell if this works out for Denver. I'm guessing not..

Likewise. Manning is an exceptional player IF he plays again, but his downside is that he's got perhaps two good years left. He's got too much class to pull a Favre, but I can see him staying past his skills.

Tebow has tremendous unrealized upside.

This can go wrong in so many ways and only right if Tebow flames out.

I can't agree with that, not in the least.
How about this scenario DS,Peyton winds up playing more NFL games from here on in than Tebow winds up playing ?
Picture this Manning plays 3 or 4 more years while Tebow on one of his mad broken field runs winds up with a career ending knee injury ?
Now before you discount this possibility remember that Tebows ability as a QB depends more on those legs than on that arm...he is one sanp away from being out of the game(sure every player is,but he is one dimensional...so he is more so)

servantforuse -> RE: NFL Sob or Jump for Joy (3/19/2012 6:59:38 PM)

With 3 neck operations in the last year or so, Manning is one hit away from being out of football forever.

slvemike4u -> RE: NFL Sob or Jump for Joy (3/19/2012 7:38:27 PM)

Yeah, cause he doesn't and hasnt had the quickest release in football. He is a pure pocket passer who does everything possible to minimize the hits he takes [:)]
That being said,as I posted in my original post...every player is one play away from a new vocation.

I'd certainly be absent from this football thread if such a filter existed.

Manning is guaranteed to have few years left in the tank between his age and his neck.

I'm not saying Tebow won't get injured but the odds are better for him avoiding a career ending injury than Peyton.

I don't think you can say that Tebow's one dimensional. He's got some growth ahead of him, just like any other second year QB who's only started a few games. His upside is unknown, while Manning's is known.

slvemike4u -> RE: NFL Sob or Jump for Joy (3/20/2012 12:50:46 PM)

Tebow has no such "unknown upside",there is only the "known" limitations to his game.No one is going to be able to change,at this late date, that throwing motion..that is enough to know that he is very limited. He will always have a long...so,so long wind up,DB's will always have an opportunity to jump routes playing against him...His accuracy will always be questionable.
He just isn't an NFL qb...sorry

Hillwilliam -> RE: NFL Sob or Jump for Joy (3/20/2012 1:00:03 PM)

I'm thinkinng that Manning will start more NFL games at Quarterback in the remaining part of his career than Tebow will. (note I said "at quarterback")

slvemike4u -> RE: NFL Sob or Jump for Joy (3/20/2012 2:13:02 PM)

I put forth that very same though a few posts ago....actually yesterday I think ....lol.
Let's be honest,this was a no brainer....Manning under center...or Tebow from the shotgun....lol

slvemike4u -> RE: NFL Sob or Jump for Joy (3/22/2012 7:01:13 AM)

If ever one wondered how a franchise could go since Joe Willie Namath till now without winning another ring, this off-season is a perfect answer.
Let us recap, the J-E-T-S Jets finished the year in disaray, losing their way out of the playoffs, battling their way towards the finish line, banishing one "star" player from their offensive huddle during the last chance for the playoffs seasonender.
Exit interviews revealed a team in complete chaos, players pointing fingers at each other, some voices actually questioning the work habits of their beleaguered Quarterback....so how do you respond to this.
What you don't do,it seems,is plug some of the holes that have developed, you don't give your 4th year starter some new weapons, you don't address the poison in your locker room by jettisoning some of the bad faith characters.
Hell, you don't even dump your QB and start over.....no if you are the Jets you double down with your flawed QB by giving him an extension with guaranteed money in excess of 20 million dollars...than you flirt with Peyton(okay everyone including Sanchez understands that move) failing that you call up Denver and broker a trade for the most flawed QB in the league in order to corner the market on flawed QB's and ensure that your locker room remains divisive [8|]
Thank God for the Super Bowl winning Giants.....Go Big Blue, fuck you j-e-t-s......jets [&o]

Is it possible no one else has any opinion where the jets insanity is concerned ?

I'm trying to evade the CM "you don't know shit about football" filter. [:)]

Very glad to see Roger Goodell sack Sean Payton for a year, though. I was surprised. I thought all we were going to see were heavy fines for Payton and the team and maybe a long term suspension for a few of his minions. Goodell really does have a spine. I wonder if the Saints could just fire Payton (you know they're thinking about it) and hire a new coach?

Aww,come on Liz,yo didn't take that little crack personally did you ?
I was just having some fun, really ,really didn't mean any harm with it.[:)]
Its more than Just Goodell having a spine,he is very savy legal wise, and he knew full well any chance he had,in the future of disciplining some of the leagues bad actors(on field talent wise) hinged on him coming down on this group of miscreants with the Hammer of Thos(so to speak) anything less and Goodell and the league would soon find themselves in court the next time, and every following time, they tried to mete out suspensions.

What particular "insanity" are you speaking of,I am prone to multiple outbursts.....so you will have to be more specific [:)]

Edwynn -> RE: NFL Sob or Jump for Joy (3/23/2012 7:55:55 PM)

The insanity of being in some nook of NC and not even being aware of Cammania, that's what insanity.

Having Cam Newton at your disposal and then asking stupid questions about the Jets that nobody beyond a 20 mile radius of the Jets ever had any interest in whatsoever. (There's that bit of news, Jets fans). The Jets have to pull silly stunts like hiring Rex Ryan for a coach and Tebow for a sideline prayer leader to get any attention.

That said, it's not as though anybody who keeps up with US football has any basis for calling someone else out on their sanity.

How am I doing on my great dance around calling you insane, Mike? I really don't mean to call you that, I just felt like dancing ... and saying that Cam Newton is just about the most fun I've ever seen, even with all his screw-ups. This is the most fun I've had since I took my younger brother to see Micheal Jordan at Chicago Stadium in his rookie year.

Montana

Bradshaw

Peyton doesn't even make the top 10.

Lets clear up your first, and most egregious misconception...while I am ,in fact,in "some nook in NC' I am not of NC...if you get my drift.New York born and bred and always a New Yorker...so Carolina Panthers Football does nada, zilch nothing for me.
Giants fan first and foremost(hey we just won the Super Bowl) Jet sufferer secondly....lol
As far as calling me insane, don't sweat it I assure you I have been called insane by more cretinous individuals than you....lol,

Just off the top of my head

Montana
Bradshaw
Brady

Peyton might squeak into my top 10 but he definitely would not be in my top 5. Terry Bradshaw never has and never will get the respect he deserved at the quarterback position. Granted, if Peyton Manning had been in TB's shoes with those teams and the talent he possesses (possessed) he might have been another Joe Montana.
