I carry Benadrly with me at all times, I have a few very severe allergies and it can save my life since I stopped carrying my Epi-Pen a few years ago. It will stop a major allergic reaction enough to get me to the hospital or for an ambulance to arrive. If I do take Benadryl for regular reactions, I take it, then lay down for the rest of the day, because I will be out in less than 30 minutes adn sleeping for hours; non drowsey otions, I use Alvert for normal stuff. As for skin irrations, I suggest Sarina, it is the best stuff I have ever used, I get sun poisioning and it itches like a bitch, that stuff takes away the itch AND it helps to heal, its OTC [over the counter.. white bottle with blue print]. I foudn it a few years ago when I had a severe reaction on my skin and the doctor wanted to give me cortozone shots, the pharmicist suggested Sarina for a few days, in less than 24 hours I had improvement and NO cortozone shots.

Im probably repeating some stuff. The .025% ingredient is the same thing in most OTC sleeping aids, that is why so many fall asleep using it or get sleeping med hangover.

Lotion would be fine if it was one bite. I had 5 and more poping up all over me. I didn't see or hear the moskito, I know it was one cause they're in the house, and on one of the bites t my hand I saw it, and bam suddenly 4 spots all at once on my body simultaniously all itchy all at once.

Individual mozzy bites,I use 'After Bite',which is 3.5% ammonia, stops itching, but has side effect it smells a bit like strong urine.Mind if that is the case,I suppose urine could be used if stuck without any meds.

I try to avoid Benadryl for the reasons you have stated.
I have found other products that are similar, without the diphenhydramine in it.

Why did you stop carrying the Epi-Pen?

The benadryl is not nearly as fast-acting as the epinephrine. Last time I was with someone who had a severe allergic reaction, opting for benadryl over epinephrine would have left her dead. Incidentally, she wasn't carrying her Epi-Pen either, but I usually carry one, even though I don't have any allergies myself.

I stopped carrying it when my son was younger [then started when I was on the coast a lot], it was always in my purse or his diaper bag, once he got big enough to get into things, I took it out. I carried it in my purse for a long time, then I stopped going to the ocean and my close friends are VERY aware of my worst allergies [shell fish and seafood], so we are cautious when we go out to eat; plus, the team I dive with, they watch out for me and the guys on the boat have Epi-Pens just in case.

I know I need to carry my Epi-Pen, its just kinda a pain. I would have to always carry a larger purse with me. Plus, with the government buildings I go into on a regular basis, I get the 3rd degree from the security guards. Since its summer time, I will have to go back and get another Rx for it, since I will be on the coast this summer a few times. Also, I take Benadryl, before I may be exposed, with food the sleepy effects are not as bad, so I get the blocker and not the drowsyness, most of the time.
