Your mileage may vary.

It's actually one of the oldest I think.  Whenever you're in doubt about an acronym, try the urban dictionary and then google first- they have all of them.

My Dearest E..

Have you forgotten when you were very young and knew it all?

When everything was new and shiny and we thought we had discovered it first?

Remember a time when we did not know the difference between intelligence and wisdom?

Sit back, relax and watched the shocked faces as the younger generation discovers what we already know.

Care for a tea and crumpet, m'Lady? :)

Thanks LA. I thought it might be You Make Me Vomit, so your version was quite nice to hear.

Whaddya mean? I'm only 25! Even if its my 39th birthday today - I'm still 25, and I'll stamp my feet and scream if you dont believe me!

But yes...... aint life just the greatest education one can get? I really wish I was 25, knowing what I know now. 'Cause when I was 25, I knew nothing. Really. Then again when I get to 50 I'll likely look back to now and think like everyone else, what a stupid cow.

Yes please. I'd love some crumpet. And also one of those baked things that one spreads butter etc on.

Which always begs the question- when is it safe for anyone to say they know something?

When you're young, you can't know anything.  So if you say you know stuff, you just don't know better and are being silly.

When you're old, you can't know anything because you've learned you don't know much.

I just gave up on that game- I know what I what I know and I know what I don't know.  I never thought I knew it all and frankly no one I knew growing up with thought they had all the answers either.  But we knew what we knew and made the best of it.  Someone wants to make an issue of my age relevant, they are welcome to try.

Tis the eternal question of youth.  The best you can do is know what you know only for your self at this day and time. It changes.  There are things we hear the younger ones say that we already know th outcome. We also know that  they need to find it out for themselves.  So actually, think of it like the final scene in the Wizard of OZ.  You're Dorothy and we are Glenda.

"You mean I could have gone home  any time I wanted??? WHY didn't you TELL me?!!!"

"Because you had to find it out for yourself.  You wouldn't have believed me".

And some times, us old geezers just have to sit in the balcony and watch the train wreck happen.

Slight hijack whilst the Wizard of Oz has been mentioned.

Can anyone else sing like the little people in the film? (you know, the "Follow the yellow brick road" song)

I can.

But then I can also do the wicked witch of the west too. Scares kids to death.

Just thought you should all know what a nutter youre dealing with here.

As a bisexual woman and a switch, I've only had problems with the lesbians telling me I'm only biding my time. I've never had issues with tops or bottoms giving me a hard time because I'm a switch.

Y'know, I'm really getting sick of the "youngin's don't know shit" comments.

What's wrong with being starry eyed, discovering new (to us) things.  That is the way of the world.  We're new to it and it to us.  Honestly, I LOVE watching kids with that wide-eyed wonderment.  Even if those "kids" are my age.

As long as us "kids" aren't acting like little stuck-up know-it-all asshats....what's wrong with us working through and learning?  Don't you remember what it takes to wade through life, figuring things out for yourself?

Give us some slack.

And who bales their little hineys out of trouble because they are "on their (f%^&*) journey" and won't listen to cautions or reason from people who have BEEN there.

I no longer even TRY to help.  I just ignore the "young'uns".

They know it all already :)

*tips her hat*

Then curl up in it and get all warm and cuddly with yourself.

Those of the older generations don't know it all either.

Not all of us youngin's are know-it-all asshats.

I am always pleased when I meet a young'un that is wise for their years and who's company I enjoy more than many old'uns. I am even more pleased to say that it happens quite often.

The young'uns also tend to be alot more fun and alot less narrow minded and judgemental. Pure joy!

And here I thought that that particular distinction might be rather easy considering the time spent on finding it.

Not always, but in general.  At least that I've managed to find in my short years.

I don't argue against that some youngin's are know-it-all asshats.  I come across plenty.  But I come across a very nearly equal amount during my days that are of an older generation...and unfortunately, depending on the forum...more so in the older generations.  And this tends to be due to the ages of people I deal with on a daily basis as a pharmaceutical tech compared to my personal time, which I spend these days in the company of a small group of friends and mostly my boyfriend.

As for before I moved down here to be with him...I dealt a lot more with people closer to my age.  And yeah, in a lot of ways most of them were pretty much your average asshats.  Some of them pretty know-it-all-ish depending on the subject.  But honestly (and this goes for just those people that I've encountered in my life, keep in mind and has no bearing on those that you have known) the people older than me by at least 10 years or so tended to be way more "wordly" acting and pretty much shunned the rest of us as completely ignorant even in the face of someone who is right when they are wrong.

So again, I say, that we have our things to learn in life, and I don't care how old a person is....but everyone should be open to continuing to learn on any level in the course of their lives and be open to changing views as time goes by, because life around us changes for a reason and those that refuse to change are the ones that have the most difficulty.

Yes, we may not "listen to our elders" as much as some of you might like, but sometimes we don't listen for a -very- good reason.

And there's nothing wrong with an elder listening to us younger people once in a while.

Wow this post brought out the snarky in people.  In my experience in the queer community it was mostly the gay boys doing the bitchy, back-biting, you're-not-gay-enough crap.  However, it never occurred to me to say that most or all gay men were like that.  They aren't.  I find generalizations obnoxious, but I do get that could be someone's experience.  Sorry that it has been yours, Lady Ellen.  Actually, the lesbians I know not only were supportive of the bi and trans among us, but didn't even get bent out of shape when I realized that I loved a man and ultimately married him.  I guess I just knew a healthier, more well-adjusted group of queers.
At the risk of sounding totally idiodic, I make this minor revelation:
It took me years to embrace the bisexual label for myself.  I was disproprtionately attracted to women.  I actually believed that everyone was bisexual and that sexual preference was a perfectly fine description.  I preferred women, so identified as a lesbian.  Just like saying that you prefer toast, doesn't mean you wouldn't have cereal one day if it looked good.  I thought bisexuals were just the people who had enough attraction to both that there wasn't really a preference.  I thought you had to like both equally.  I was startled to realize that there really were people who were absolutely heterosexual or absolutely gay.  Silly me.  When I got that I realized I HAD to be bi and have embraced the label ever since.  Its funny how caught up in our own misunderstandings we can get.  Some days I think it is a wonder people communicate at all!
