Maybe they appeared together on a menu for a special occasion.

Nope, nope and nope.  BUT! The commonality does have to do with their origins.  Oh, yeah, all these DID originate in France.....

I thought this was an easy one, but I'm seeing that it's gonna get me called nasty names when solved or (as I suspect) revealed.

guess one:  due to Lance being "Lance":  they all came from "Greek dishes", ha ha!

(no?  too bad, oh well...)...

guess 2:  they all (in their "origins") have wayyyyyyy to much yeast in their original recipes!

Hi, Hiltie.

Some are fairly old in their origins - as early as the 14th century
Some are fairly late in their origins -  the 1880's
Three are French Names
One is a Spanish Name
Some are from Normandy
At least one is not
Some have raw or nearly raw ingredients
Some are cooked through

i'm not finding much in origins, Lance.

All four are French names.  And the most recent is in the 1960s. But the commonality is more than that.

Let me know when y'all have broken down.....

<Maybe, just maybe there's hidden clues in my responses.>

Ok.....all these dishes were created by cordon bleu chefs in France?

As forr the nasty names...well if I knew it would do me any good which I know it won't so I shall be a good cub and refrain   (halo shines bright)

okay...cancel the cordon bleu angle....the dishes contain egg

girl begs to differ, but "Salsa Mahonesa" is Spanish.   "Mayonnaise" is the French.

Nice guess, bear.... but one was created in commemoration of a battlefield before Cordon Bleu existed.  The most recent by a shop keeper in a city in France.

NO ingredients enter into commonality.

fluff: OOPS - you are MOST correct.... Salsa Mahonesa is Spanish in origin, but guess what?  That still fits the commonality which speaks (if the written word can be said to speak) to the origin.

THAT is the closest yet, bear!  Just extend that factoid across the quartet! The fish stew is named after its city of origin..

I meant in the "stand up comedian drag queen" way, Lance, not literally.  (LOL), like if you (Draggie 1) where wearing CHROMATIC VIRIDIAN eyeshadow on stage with me, and I (Draggie #2) asked,

"oh, what's THAT for?", and you replied,

"Well YOU'RE the Irish Twink, sweets, not "moi", and it's March 17th...  sorry I didn't remind you of the date..."

Arggggggghhhhh!

that kinda thing.

Hiltie: How did you ever know that St.Patrick's Day is my birthday?  I traditionally DO wear CHROMATIC VIRIDIAN eyeshadow, but refuse to "work" a stage on that holiest of days.

see, this is why some people mistake me for being "psychic".

No, I did not know, but I somehow knew I had to make the joke with that day mentioned...

but I label it as "instinct...
