I went to the local animal shelter today and for only $28 got the most gorgeous cat...he's approx 4 years old, fixed, declawed..and he's orange...I am soo happy...does anyone have pets? how many? I am a cat lover personally...he adjusted quickly...he is purring away.[:)]

My resident feline forced me to make a very expensive trip to the vet on Saturday. 14 stitches in his left front leg. He is very disgusted on many levels right now. He cannot go outside and must use the litterbox. He has to have antibiotics twice a day (thank god he is declawed, thats all I have to say about that) And, he number one major indignity is that he has to wear this cone collar thing to keep him from digging at his stitches.

I am sure the girls (2 very large dogs) are quite amused at the whole thing. The bird is probably laughing heartily also.
I doubt the fish nor the horses care.

Two cats and a dog...all rescued.
The dog was rescued all the way from the Carribean and is the calmest, sweetest dog Ive ever encountered.
One cat, the siamese, has crossed eyes but I dont tease her about it much.
The tortie kitty is a lovebug.

Congrats on your newest family member!

Congratulations on your new cat!  I'm sure he will bring you much happiness!

I have two cats Myself.  The black one showed up as a stray on My door step.  The Siamese mix was a rescue kitty.  They're both adorable girls.

Yes, but the proof of the proverbial pudding is in the eating.  So do tell, how did it taste?

I personally have 2 fish tanks, 3 if you count the rubbermaid container with goldfish, decreasing by one a day (Lucky fucking knife fish gets live food.)

Yours,

benji

LaTigresse -> RE: Animals... (11/27/2006 11:34:59 AM)

Benji, when did you get the second fish tank?

Are you feeding the knife fish gold fish to fatten him up for a fish dinner?

gooddogbenji -> RE: Animals... (11/27/2006 11:36:26 AM)

I got it months ago, the newts were in there until they died.

The knife fish is being fattened up so he can eventually eat things bigger than cute baby goldfish, like cute baby kittens.

Yours,

benji

I have a very large and very grumpy  kitty that would be more than happy to educate the knife fish on the order of the food chain. So the newts all died eh. That sucks. Did the knife fish eat the newts also?

gooddogbenji -> RE: Animals... (11/27/2006 11:45:09 AM)

No, they just kinda tipped over and died.

You do realize that a knife fish can get quite a bit bigger, and a lot meaner, than a cat?

The goldfish move into a new tank and live about 3 seconds longer than it takes to get seen.

Besides, if the contest could go the wrong way, I'll blend the cat and give the fish a straw.

Yours,

benji

Edited because "q" does not feature in most words.

I want several cats (my ambition in retirement is to be the crazy woman for the neighbourhood, a position for which I am eminently suited).

Sadly I cant have any as I have to travel too much for business and there's no one I can trust to look after them whilst I'm away - would you trust an alcoholic with your cats? (even though he's been dry a week now, fingers crossed there).

But - the lady opposite has just had two pedigree toms - theyre only 3 months old now. Every time I open my door, they both dash in. So now I've been adopted, so I have what I want and can still get away for business!

Result!

I use to take in strays but with the boys it is dangerous if they may have rabies undetected or other sickness...My cat has his shots all I have to do is take him in tomorrow for rabies shot...he keeps coming up to me rubbing on me...he's such a cuddly cat..it's almost as though i saved his life

LadyEllen -> RE: Animals... (11/27/2006 12:19:52 PM)

My favourite ever cat was definitely one whose life I saved.

This would be 15 years ago now, and the people opposite me then had a ginger tom and a black and white queen kitten. They were great together - playing and curling up together; in my (then our) apartment, since they had adopted me too.

We went away on holiday, and when we returned (my ex and I) these people had moved out. We spoke to the landlord who informed us the cats were at the cattery. How they could have done that I dont understand, but then they werent the best type of people, shall we say.

We rushed over. The tom had already been put down, the little girl was crying piteously for him. We took her home and lived the next six years in a loving home, doing plenty of beasting about in the gardens at the back. She also developed an unhealthy interest in a piece of derelict land over the road, though she was always careful in crossing - but it didnt help our stress to see her dodging the artics etc!

Then one morning (14th July, Bastille Day), I came out to get in the car to go to work. The cat was lying asleep on the kerb in the driveway in the sun (typical of her), so I went over to move her - and she was dead. Not a mark on her, nothing.

We both cried buckets, and later buried her with her bowl and toys. Never before had such a wonderful cat and never will again I'm sure. It took me months to get over it - every time I opened a tin of tuna I broke down, as that had always brought her running. Still have a picture of her. Quite what it says about me that her death affected me so much, when people dying rarely touches me, I dont know!

What kind of fish do you have in yours?

Yours,

benji

petdave -> RE: Animals... (11/27/2006 12:47:58 PM)

One African Pygmy Hedgehog and 4 cats, all rescues/shelter animals... one North American Dumpster Tabby, two Birmans, and one that's best described as a cross between a Ragdoll and a Beanie Baby. If i could figure out a profitable product to manufacture from cat hair, i could make a fortune.

I have a cat I rescued, a ferret, and a bird.

Najakcharmer -> RE: Animals... (11/27/2006 4:09:56 PM)

Snakes.  Don't know as I'd call them "pets" however.  They're not the cuddly sort.

JerseyKrissi72 -> RE: Animals... (11/27/2006 5:36:32 PM)

my next project is a fish tank..does anyone know how difficult it is to care for a salt water tank? Some people tell me it's so difficult others say it's not....I love the many different color fish you can get with a salt water tank, the live rock, etc..
