Seriously, mail me and we can talk, right now I am trying to straighten out financials by a company that was owned and operated by Meyer Lansky.........to equate their GAAP with anything other than whimsical would be less than conservatively jubilant.

listen, your talking human nature. The one woman really wanted that promotion too. She thought she deserved it. I know Ive gotten POed when I see others being treated batter than myself and I hold a masters degree.

I went to school believeing that a degree was what the world wanted you to have, in order to move up through the ranks. So to be overlooked is really a slap in the face. Especially if that person is younger than you.

Give the woman a break. She was obviously very very hurt by all this.

Sophia, obviously the woman was hurt but you don't start yelling at the boss at a time like that!
Perhaps she was in line for another position.
It's simply not appropriate behavior in the workplace.
I'm retired but when I was in management I would choose a person for a promotion who could and would get the job done, otherwise it would be my ass on the line.
And, there are a lot of management positions that simply don't *require* a degree. You have to look at what the job requires.
For example look no further than our government.
Most of these "management" positions in government were *secretarial* positions 20 years ago. Why any of them would *require* a degree is beyond me! I strongly suspect that it's something called "feathering the nest."
These are simply paper shuffling jobs.
What kind of life-changing decisions are those people making that require a college or university degree?
Somehow I think good 'ol Joe and Jane Taxpayer are getting screwed.
There's such a thing as being overqualified for a job too.

As for me, I'd have been *much* better off financially if I'd gone to school to become a Plumber instead of taking a degree in Bus. Admin.

Hmm and I truly say this as delicately as possible, using your post only as an example and not as a deliberate statement about you...but if I were looking to someone to promote to a management position, masters degree or not, the employee being promoted would have to exhibit professional skills to fit the position, and that includes spelling correctly and using proper punctuation.  I could not, for example, promote someone to a media spokesperson position if I could not trust that press releases would go out the door perfectly.  And so on.  I found 8 errors in the above quoted post.

A degree may give people better opportunities, but it is the person who gets the position.
