not totally sure how to word this, so please forgive my awkwardness.

The other night Sir did something to me that has left me in what feels like a limbo, I can't really focuus on anything but all my senses are heightened to a new level- see what I mean about my inabaility to make sense?- anyway, using the edge of the paddle he traced it accross my back, obviously it wasn't sharp but a rough edge did scratch a little and from that moment I disappeared from the reality of that moment and went into my mind.
I've been reading loads lately about brandings, cuttings, knife/ blood play purely out of morbid curisoity, the idea would be a limit for me, a hard one, or so I thought, but I now seem preoccupied with the thought and am spending far too much time online reading about it all.

So my question is this, have I found 'sub space', am I dancing with a fantasy that invaded my head space at that moment and has nothing to do with what was actually happening or is it just my subconscious playing tricks after heavy bedtime reading ?.

This may sound way off, but it has confused me grately and I don't feel able to talk to Sir about it indepth until I understand it more myself.

Thank you for you time, belle xx

There is no such thing as "a sub space" It's an altered mental state, very akin to trance.

This is expressed in completely individual states. In a way it's like describing an orgasm, it's different to everyone, you experience it differently, and you get there differently from others.

Subspace is what it is, if you feel "high" or "spacey" or "weird" then you're likely in some sort of altered state. Not all subspace is ecstacy.

I wouldn't worry so much, just experience it and see where it takes you, focus if you need to and don't operate heavy machinery until you feel capable. I rarely ever experience subspace and it has nothing to do with the type of play itself.

thank you for the reply EmeraldSlave, you've clarified something that has always bothered me, the whole concept of 'sub space' was alien to me, but you've helped me make sense of where ever I left my head the other night.

ok, i think i experienced subspace with Master as well...i lost track of time, during play i mean...i was just in a nother world...

question, kinda unrelated....can a person go into subspace all on their own, i mean, that altered state of mind, i had that happen once to me, and no i wasn't on any drugs or anything ... but something like that happened which freaked me out!! as i was going to sleep one night, years ago, maybe i was around 19 yrs old...anyone else has had this state of realization/altered state, etc .... unrelated to bdsm ?

Subspace is a real mental place.

It is definately an altered state of consciousness, one that you can get to on your own, but it takes years of trancendental meditation to do so. I have never gotten there on my own, but I did one night with a friend who was flogging me in public.

I say that subspace is different from normal mental states because what most meditation (and I am an expert in this field) does is raise the consciousness from the Conscious mind into the Superconscious mind. Subspace is below the Conscious mind, closer to the Subconscious mind.

If subspace continues, the person will regress into a feral state, animalistic. Once I did this and I attempted to kill my wife, but what saved her was the fact she was pregnant. I was restrained and no animal likes to be tied up.

The goal of most scenes is to bring the body to the fore, to be a feeling machine. So the upper mental functions start shutting down, and ONLY the feeling parts are left. Thinking stops, words, even simple ones, become incomprehensible, simple orders are no longer understood or obeyed. It's the animal instinct that many try to get to when they are scening like this.

It is very interesting and it takes a top who knows what they are doing to bring you to that state and bring you back. It can be spontaneously entered into, but that's rare.

In my experience as well subspace is altered state. Come from the body absorbing so much that it goes through shock with adrenadline and endorphine colliding. the only thing that makes a good "subspace" or bad is where you were mentally before you began the session as well as relationship with the dominant.

That does not mean you have to be in love to feel euphoria it just means you have to trust them to take to a place you never been emotionally and be able to bring you back slowly.

i do understand the "principles" of subspace.

but what i do not understand is why it is needed, demanded, yearned for, longed for by a submissive or slave?

is it so much a part of service that a girl cannot do without it?

what of the Dom, is there a counterpart?

shy

I call what some call subspace head space. Yes, I have reached it though differently outside of D/s. I rode horses professionally when younger as a hunter/jumper and when I stepped into the ring as I made my first circle to get the horse ready for the course a calm would come over me and everyone but the horse, the fences and the sound of the horses hooves hitting the ground in rythm would cease to exhist for me. I saw noone, heard nothing else. Would take me about 5 min after a course to come out of it. My parents learned to give me space when I cam out of the ring and let me simply walk with the horse until I was ready to discuss it.

When sessioning the same thing happens to me. With different results I will admit. I forget everything the only thing i hear is the sound of the flogger or what ever and the sensations running through me. Time does not exhist I couldnt tell you if the session was 15 min or 2 hours. I can always tell when it starts because the music that is on fades from my mind and I can no longer make it out simply feel. The feeling is an incredible high and takes me time to completely return to myself afterwards.

I have talked to many and it seems it is in fact different for all as individial as each person.
