The Parkway is a most awesome putt. The foggy mornings with the sun coming up over the mountains and the purr of your bike under you, i loved it!

Well my first choice is Egypt as I would love to see the pyramids. But considering how things are in the ME I will forgo that. I would head to Germany, the land of my people and I'd drag my sub along with me.

I feel so peasant-like and simple.  I would like some place warm, sunny, with water and rummy drinks.  I don't care about culture or learning anything new, on a vacation, I want to sit and relax.

A very loooooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnnggggggg tour around Europe, the whole thing, without a care for money. No schedule or itinerary, just wandering around exploring everything. I want to see it all. I adore history, old architecture, meeting new people, trying new foods. It would be pure heaven.

After much thought... I would have to say

In the mountains, far away from any sign of civilization... just me, my camping gear, and a few close friends :)

I don't know if this qualifies as a vacation but, it sure is a dream trip of mine. I'd like to take  a saiboat around the world, stopping wherever and for as long as I wish. I'm thinking taking about 5 years would be a nice pace. A heavily built  45 footer, rigged for single handed sailing when I choose to do that sounds about right.

There are so many places that I want to go and many that I'd like to revisit. Having talked with other sailors who have been there, New Zealand would be a must visit. If ya don't know, that's were Lord of the Rings was filmed. The Kiwis are supposed to be very friendly and down to earth too.

Ok, I'm a pig ( not that there's anything wrong with it ).

As children, we never really appreciate the culture/history of a place so that's entirely forgivable. Great choice though, we're going to the Tuscany region in the autumn when it's not so hot. We'll also have the option of going to Florence, which is something I can't wait to do. Once there, I don't want to waste a moment sleeping while there and want to experience as much as I possibly can. When I reach retirement age I'm hoping to retire to the Tuscany region as we have family there.

So what is your dream vacation.
One of mine would be a summer in Italy.
Venice, Florence, Rome.  Sicily to tract down long lost relatives.
Museums, cathedrals.  The art and architecture would be overwhelming for me.
I was there for three weeks when I was six.  My dad dragged us to every museum and church that he could in that time frame.
I had no clue how truly wonderful everything that I was seeing was.
And all of that is without even considering the food and the people.

It's not just you. I've travelled fairly extensively around the UK, including Ireland and Scotland, and while there are some stunning places to visit they don't hold quite the same allure for me as visiting places abroad.

maybe 'cause they're on the doorstep for me and no one ever appreciates whats on their doorstep!

I'll second Prague. It's a beautiful city and I would liek to take Reality there with me for a long weekend in the not too distant future.

Top tips - Warsaw and Prague - unspoilt and built in Italian style (Warsaw was rebuilt as was after the war).

Hopefully you'll include Brugge. It is known as Venice of the North and the architecture is superb, they have successfully integrated modern day architecture with that of 1400 and it doesn't look out of place. It's like stepping back into mediaeval times.

As for my own dream. It would be along similar lines to CJan. I miss sailing and have always wanted to live on a craft... perhaps one day I'll have that opportunity and go where I please, when I please.  A good friend of mine lived in NZ for several years and her experiences of life there marry with what you have heard about the country and its people.

I want to go back to Flamenco Beach!

nice

I was lucky enough to get my dream vacation in March.  The Caribbean and lots of time on the beach.  We rented a car and I was able to see parts of Puerto Rico that I'm certain tourists rarely visit.

well, used to be Scotland/England/Ireland/Wales...but since I'm planning to move to the UK and will have much easier access to those places and the rest of Europe I'm going to go with Cj's idea.. I spent a week sailing with friends in MExico a couple of years ago..PURE heaven!  One night, at anchor in a secluded cove, you could look up and see nothing but stars - and the water was filled with those phosphorescent critters.. stars above and below.. *sigh* pure heaven :)

I've experienced that too and there's no greater sense of 'peace'. What's amazing is that the water acts as a manifying glass and gives you the false sense that you could reach down and touch them.

This is going to sound strange for someone who hates cold and snow, but I've always wanted to spend a winter in St. Petersburg, Russia.

I can see the attraction in wanting to visit there. It would be interesting to see the cultural changes/attitudes post Cold War plus I have a love for the ballet, so the Mariinsky Ballet would be a must for me.

I'm not sure how much of the history of St Petersburg you know, but it's fascinating to think that originally it was decided that during the winter months people would traverse via dog sleds, that of course changed (rather impractical!) and more bridges were built and I cannot help but think how lovely it would be to travel everywhere via that mode of transport.

I have this urge to visit the yosemite during wintertime and make pee patterns in the snow. I WILl do that someday!
