So what is your dream vacation.
One of mine would be a summer in Italy.
Venice, Florence, Rome.  Sicily to tract down long lost relatives.
Museums, cathedrals.  The art and architecture would be overwhelming for me.
I was there for three weeks when I was six.  My dad dragged us to every museum and church that he could in that time frame.
I had no clue how truly wonderful everything that I was seeing was.
And all of that is without even considering the food and the people.

Italy is up there on my list, too.  I could see myself living "Under The Tuscan Sun".

But first, a cruise that starts in Sydney Harbor, goes up the Australian coastline, through the Tahitian Islands and ends up in the Hawaiian Islands. On a 100+ foot luxury yacht.  With an all male crew.  And I look like you. [:)]

Would you ride your Harley throughout Ireland?

Anywhere ther eis a rustic atmosphere and no civilization for miles upon miles.
No telephones, computers or televisions.
Up on a hilltop somewhere where the only sounds you can hear are nature.

I have always wanted to go to Ireland too.

Evanesce -> RE: Dream Vacations (1/8/2007 7:27:53 PM)

I want to spend a month in a castle in Scotland.  Even found the castle.  Trouble is, it's nearly $500 a night.  Master says maybe a week for our 5th anniversary.  Only 4 yrs and 10.5 months to go!

there is a castle in Wales
on the border of England before you get to Breacon Beacons
it is a hostel-much cheaper with private rooms and lovely forests and hills all around!
some good pubs close by

I took a full weeks vacation to a guest ranch in tucson arizona a couple winters ago.  It was the most soul filling experience of my life.  Just me, the horses, the nature...... lots of socializing to be had, but none required in those moments I wished to sit and think...... my own little porch to sit on during twilight and watch the horses "horse-around" .

Yes, but we're not interested in pubs, and this is where we really want to be:

I want to travel through the Mediterranean. The French Riviera, Italy, Greece. See the old places, taste the flavors, and spend hours just staring at that deep deep blue ocean.

Wales? Scotland? Ireland? Are you crazy!?

I dont know; maybe 'cause they're on the doorstep for me and no one ever appreciates whats on their doorstep! Wales especially for me as I'm less than an hour to the border and just over two hours to the sea on the other side. My parents have two large mobile homes at the coast near Harlech and I know the place as well as home nearly, from holidays there for years on end. Usually in the rain and with a force ten gale blowing in! It is nice when the sun shines though - about three days every year....

Top tips - Warsaw and Prague - unspoilt and built in Italian style (Warsaw was rebuilt as was after the war). Very cheap too - a high quality hotel (western style) in the centre of the city is half to a third the price of the same in London. Food is excellent (I always gain 5lbs in the space of a week there!) and cheap. Shopping is world class. But stay off the roads as theyre mostly insane drivers - taxis are cheap too!

I just took a dream vacation in October. I rode the Electraglide  down the whole Blue Ridge Parkway and up through the Smoky Mountains. I pulled my cycle camper and camped every night. I always wanted to do it. I have did it in a car before it was great then. The cycle trip was just awesome. Last spring I rode to the Poconos and the Skyline Drive and camped. In 07 I have a cycle Niagra Falls camping trip on the schedule. I also will get down to Chincoteague Island in Va.

Well..... they say the Tuscan landscape is just like Oregon wine country, only with better food. I had some long-lost relatives in Sicily, also. We found them about fifteen years ago {Santa Rita} and I still get an e-mail every once in a while ; even though I haven't been back to visit.

I would tend to agree with you that Italy would make a superb vacation spot.
