I actually prefer to make the toys and furniture whenever I can.  Not only because I can be a really cheap bastard, but also because it means more when I make them.  Hell, I'm a klutz, and so a lot of time my actual blood and tears are part of the project!

Thus far I've made:
a couple of spanking benches (the last version of which I'm extremely happy with!) - cost, $30 and about 3-4 hours.
a flogger with latex tubing ($0)
a heavy-duty spreader bar ($12)
a smaller flogger from dowel rod and the rubber strings from a bungee cord
an awesome gag from an small belt, old dildo, and tool dip
over-the-door restraint systems (soooo much cheaper and so easy to make)

With just a bit of imagination, little money, and a few tools or supplies most anything can be made.  I like to look online, try to figure out how stuff is made (especially furniture) and then make it.

at a recent trip to a craft store, I've discovered that it is almost as fun as the hardware store.

There was a small but nice selection of basswood strips (square, rectangle and rounds)
now the very thin ones don't have a lot of heft, but I did grab a rectangle piece .75"x.5"x36" for $1.75
and a piece of cord that you use to make craft necklaces for 25 cents.
little white glue and I wrapped the basswood to make a handle

makes for a nice stingy hit, and didn't cost a lot to make...
oh I did round all the corners off and did a nice sand to avoid splinters

second was a tube of glow stick bracelets.
20 sticks in yellow, green, blue and red for a dollar

now I thought the kids might like them... but then as I pulled them out of the tube they were rubber banded together at one end.

so I thought what the hell...
I set them all aglow, quick glue job around the rubberbands and I had myself a very interesting flogger what was very bright.

I would not recommend it for any lenght of time, or use it for a very hard flogging as there are chemicals, and a very thin tube inside the plastic tube
don't want that to bust on the skin
But it did make for some nice pictures and for a wonderful effect

so the moral of the story?
keep your eyes open
there are pervertables everywhere :)

Greetings

i was at a subbie sleep over once and we made rope floggers. They're pretty easy to make

Materials needed:
Bicycle handlebar grips (Walmart has Mongoose brand - two for just under $5, i think)
50 feet rope of your choice, though nylon works well for this.
2 O-rings
Scissors
Patience

Take the handlebar grips and open the hole in the end of it using the scissors

Cut the rope into 3-foot lengths and separate into two bundles. They should be about 25 feet of rope total per bundle.

Insert each bundle into an O-ring, folding the bundle in half.

Now's where patience comes in. You will need to force the O-ring through the tiny little hole at the one end of the bicycle handlebar grip. This is why you enlarge the hole, but you don't want to enlarge it too big because if you do, the rope will slip out. You want it to be a very snug fit.

The falls on this flogger can be altered from their natural state. To make it a softer, more thuddy, flogger, you can unravel the rope. To make it a sharper, more sting-y, flogger, leave the rope intact and tie knots at several intervals on several of the falls.

Edited to add:
Oh, i just had an interesting memory from my nilla days...Weed eater cord makes a very interesting flogger...

Take 25-30 1-1 1/2 foot lengths of it and tie them together. They will come loose so you might want to see about melt the ends of the cords on one end of the bundle together so that they stay in a bundle. You might even want to use a few inches more cord so that you can wrap the melted end to make a handle.

This flogger will be very sting-y. The memory was of when i was with my ex husband. He had a bundle of precut weed eater cords from when he used to work for a landscaping company. i used to hide it and sneak it out of its hiding place to playfully swat his ass with it. i hadn't thought of this in so long...lol. Hmm...perhaps i should get some weed eater cord :)

Well wishes :)

I found one of the best, and cheapest toys at Dollar Tree...its a "pore cleaner" for just a buck. Takes 2 AA batteries and has a very small suction cup on the end. When you turn it on it sucks and vibrates at the same time in a rapid pulsating motion. Suction cup is about the size of a Qtip. Another is the battery operated tooth brushes. Hard side, bristle side....very intense. And again for a buck.

For quality leather goods check out my profile. Or google Griffin Leather And Metal.

One of the best toys i ever used or had used on me was the soft rubbery rulers.  very flexible with a nice stingy bounce...on a "sexual harrassment in the workplace" note, i used to use it on my sales staff when they were standing around gossiping...then found out a few of them liked it! lol

As someone who grew up in hardware stores (my old man owned one since i was three), it's easy to adapt anything meant for another purpose.

So.
http://www.amazon.com/Intrepid-International-Lunge-Whip-Black/dp/B000FFH2HE
Cut the tail off and you have a very sexy cane for under $10.

A very effective and imprompteu gag can be made using the noose knot on #10 sash with a stringer tied to and pulled tight against the bight.

If you're somewhere (their unstocked place) without a collar and You find Yourself needing one, use Your belt! Heat the prong of the buckle over a flame and burn a hole through the belt, after fitting it of course. The spectacle is as interesting as the purpose.

If you would like a flogger (albiet wimpy), buy 3 feet of thick twisted (NOT braided) 5/8 to 3/4" nylon rope, melt together one end of the rope with your lighter to keep it from fraying, tie a knot about 8-10 inches from that end, and spend like 20 minutes unwinding each of the three strands.

Remember that You can always throw someone around with a wound-up pillowcase wrapped around wherever.

a 25 foot spool of leather thong from Your local craft store wound around Your arm, think: reeling in an extension cord, with one end then tied to Your keyring and the other end cut across the loops, makes for a stinging rawhide weltmaker.

More from "Dormroom Bondage 101" to come later.

If you have not discovered "Polymorph Plastic" or "Friendly Plastic" as I belive it's called in the US of A then hunt some down!
Bloody amazing stuff , when warm it behaves like play dough , cold it sets solid with properties similiar to that of nylon plastic.
What shapes you make is up to you , I found it ideal for plugs , collars , cuffs .. believe me the look on slaves face as they finger the seamless collar feeling for the non existent lock is pure joy and at a fraction of what the steel ones cost from Germany . Re-useable , non-toxic and it's cheap... on the downside .. it only comes in one colour , white, however I'm told by the makers  it can hold a dye but have not experimented with that yet.

Another firm favourite of my girl "doves" that I introduced her to  are the strands of a fibre optic lamp, these make a wonderfully stimulating brush for the more tender momemts  and has the added bonus of doubling up as a "vanilla" household decoration.

As for the vibrating head massager , bought for a £1 at a clearnce shop.. OH Yes ..she likes that as well.

You're the second person I've heard mention that book. I'm going to add it to my wish list. (I'll buy it once I've finished La ley del amor and this semi-dry Microsoft book.)

This is a most interesting thread.  It isn't just about saving money (I have a Kangaroo Flex-Flog by Andre that was over $200 and would't part with it!), but there is something so....righteous about looking at simple things and be able to turn them into homemade weapons of ass destruction. Or better yet, have sub work on making it at your instruction.;}  Theres a great satisfaction in watching her carefully craft the implement that will soon be used on her.  I would enjoy seeing not only the whats, but the hows that go with making them.  We can draw from a pool of collective experiences, "we don need no steenking books mon"!

Bungee-Flog:  1/2" dia x 1 ft (or longer if you wish) bungee cord.  Using exacto knife, cut the hook off 1 end, make an incision along the outer sheathing for the length of tail you desire, and peel back.  Cut away excess sheathing.  Carefully separate each of the appx. 200 thin rubber strands.  I used golfclub grip tape to cover the "handle" part, but just about anything can be used, twine, etc.  The bottom has to be wrapped or it will unravel.  The result is a light, maneuverable flogger great for precise work; titties, inner thighs, feet. It is very light and has a nasty sting.  The remaining hook is great for hanging this on your belt, wall, toy closet.

Paint Stirrer Paddle:  Not the big ones you get with 5 gallon paint pails, the regular size stir sticks you get with 1 gallon paints.  Sand with 100 grit paper round off corners and edges.  2 coats of urethane spar varnish or shellac finishes it.  Wonderful, light weight, can be swung hard LOUD report great sting, no damage.  Best feetsie tool you can find.

Chamois Flogger :  For the novice sub.  You experienced ones will laugh at it.  Get your basic chamois car cloth at your local WalMart auto aisle.  Cut 2/3's of it into strips no more that 3/8" wide.  (I used a paper cutter in my office)  Wrap the solid 1/3 around a 1/2" dia pvc pipe or anything for a handle, glue seam.  Whats good about this one is, especially in training, you can really wail with it and not even cause medium pain, but the whoosh and report is a great psych effect.

While not exactly homemade, another fave is a Maybelline #6 lip liner pencil in dusky brown, but it's use will be described in another topic  ;)

I LOVE to go to the local Hardware Store, and see what else I can make Toys out ot, like a Grounding Clamp for a Ball Stretcher. I am a Chicken Sub, so I had to file the GRIPS inside the clamp. I am not into THAT MUCH PAIN !

Sincerly, Sub BalletBob
