i think i agree somewhat with the OP--- and for that reason have found my most fullfilling successes in finding an developing D/s relationships with initially vanilla women who had that latent Domme streak to them-- but who were women who i was originally attracted to anyways so.....

for some peple, always Mae West and Jane Mansfield, NEVER Audrey Hepburn or "Jolie" or "Kylie Minogue".  For some of us, Mae an Jane (sexually, visually) are the "ten", and the Kylie's and Nicole Kidmans are the "5"'s.

That does NOT make us chubby chasers, it does not make the women we like "better or worse".

IT DOES however underscore that the hollywod crap is the Emperor's New Clothes of body image and that over 60% of the men in the world prefer curves to bulemic bones.  We just generally have no voice in the media meatgrinder.

I know tis is an aside but I just wanted to support the above post RE dress sizes.  Because that involves realistic/unrealistic expectations as well.  The notion that with enough work, EVERY WOMAN can be a size 4 or less is BULLSHIT.  Genes, bloodline, cultural background all deny that and frankly the Hollywood and Fashion Wankerage forcing that day tyo day is as lame a minority rule as Apartheid in S. Africa before we changed that in the 80's.

so fucking there.

again, back to the show.

I find it interesting that the ultimate Hollywood image of an American sex symbol is usually held up to be Marilyn Monroe - who just happened to be a size 14.

Curves are a good thing.

LaTigresse -> RE: Unrealistic expectations (1/16/2007 3:22:55 PM)

A european size 14 which is farrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr smaller than todays american size 14. Even the american size 14 has grown over the last 20 years.

We are getting fatter and need the larger sizes to make ourselves feel better about it. I think it is now time for me to head over to Julia's Southbeach diet thread..........[:'(]

bandit25 -> RE: Unrealistic expectations (1/16/2007 3:28:24 PM)

It sure did.

I stand corrected LaTigresse. You're absolutely right. According to this site: http://www.snopes.com/movies/actors/mmdress.htm
Marilyn was approximately an American Size 12. Certainly not 14 and/or above, but also just as certainly not those waif-like sizes being promoted as "sexy" by Hollywood these days.

Ahhh yes, then there are the models that are dying left and right of malnutrition and anorexia. Of course with my fascination of dark chocolate I don't think I am in any danger..........but then I am not likely to become a model or actress either.

Lillithsdream -> RE: Unrealistic expectations (1/16/2007 3:43:35 PM)

I'm incredibly hard on myself, yet I am proud of some of my accomplishments as far a self maintenance. I don't believe in diets, or any one "size" beauty. I love the show Ugly Betty, ...watch it with my 13 year old daugther, it's a good message.....it shows the world does expect us to look a certain way, be a certain way, there will indeed be pressures to cookie cut your way in....but,....then you have your saving grace, Betty, a good hearted, loving, eclectic latin girl....who is beautiful~! Even when they started checking on the runway models in Spain recently to make sure they weren't underweight and were actually eating was amazing~!

HatesParisHilton -> RE: Unrealistic expectations (1/16/2007 4:30:02 PM)

sadly Marilyn types are almost never hired anymore (Jennifer Anniston was FORCED to lose over 10 lbs to be on friends and even at her original size she was much smaller than M. Monroe), whereas skank-ass braindead bimbo breadsticks like Paris Hilton get hired all the time which reinforces the Empror's New Clothes RE female "yummy shape preferrence" bullshit.

One of the reasons I have this username.  Overrated drink whores like Paris make it harder on all real women whom look like women and encourage physically dangerous and often unrealistic/unobtainable self-expectations RE personal size.

NINASHARP -> RE: Unrealistic expectations (1/16/2007 4:55:45 PM)

Gawdzz!! Am I the only one here that can get lost in someone's words and touch and outward chivalry? I found myself quite infatuated with one who was beyond my "normal" standards in the looks department. And yet, it was hardly my ideal relationship because of the poly twist of things. Yet the words we exchanged on the phone and through email, hell he had me after a few hellos before we even met.

I was into him, and he could have looked like Godzilla for all I knew. Ok, so it turned out that he was a cross between Jay Leno w/ glasses and Cary Grant. Not only was he short, seriously over wieght and twice my age, but at the point of our first r/t meeting, none of that mattered.  He swooned me with his poetic heart, and it was the fact that he liked me for who I was, not because of what I looked like that was the best part about him. I know if I turned out to be somewhat disappointing in the looks department (which obviously I wasn't)  it would not have made a difference to him, either. BTW, that was one of the greatest parts about him, he respected individials and did not judge them for their looks alone.

Ahem, well we almost made it 5 years, and no it didn't end  over the lack of romance or even because he had gained a few more pounds and had a few more winkles during the course of the relationship.  Despite of course, that I still remained flawless. [:D]

defiantbadgirl -> RE: Unrealistic expectations (1/16/2007 5:03:54 PM)

I agree, it is ridiculous. It's very unrealistic, especially for a woman who has carried a full term pregnancy to fit into a size 3. Even before I got pregnant, I was wearing a between a size 7 and 9 and at that time considered myself to be height/weight proportunate. I've always thought those in the size 0-3 range looked like crack addicts. I'll never understand why some men think protruding ribcages on women are sexy. Yuck!!

Fast reply to no-one in particular:
I saw the OP's remarks as just an opinion about a perceived prevalence of hypocrisy in the world - "be what I want, not what I am", "do as I say, not as I do" and so on, or more simply a rant against those who don't follow the "do unto others.." philosophy. Mind you, I had a T-shirt once with Calvin and Hobbes (C) on it that said "Do unto others... every chance you get!"

I agree.  It may have been worded in a way that was not quite politically correct or as polite as possible but he said right from the start that he was not going to be.

It does get tiresome when someone expects you to live up to all their expectations but that same someone gets insulted when you mention that you have expectations also.  That is sometimes when you get to hear how wrong you are about your expectations.  That is also sometimes when you never hear from that person again.  One of the bad things sometimes from either side of the coin.

While I agree with your sentiment (really, I do), I don't think men should gratuitously be calling women out of their names (unless it's with consentual kinksters), as it makes you look less respectful/loving to the fem population at large in my opinion...
I should also say that my position is that women consent to and feed into the system that subjugates them and makes them feel less than by buying into the hype, so it's a two way street, not just the fault of the designers that like women who look like young boys...  I mean you almost never find men hating on each other because one's ass is slightly bigger, or that shirt would look better on me.     M

Let's ask Mr Owl...

"Mr Owl, how many swallows does it take to reach the gooey center of a wonderful summer ?

Mr Owl: Let's see.*Gulp*... a-one..*gulp* ... a-two-hoo-hoo... *gulp* - a thrreeee..??? (we'll just leave out the obligatory "crunch")... a-thrreee-hee-heee"

(I almost hate to say this, but for those too young to remember...this Mr Owl inquiry has been brought to you by the tootsie-pop commercials that used to be on television when I was a kid)

No, but I HAVE seen men being ... ah... a tad self-conscious at bathing suit optional pool parties we've attended when faced with the prospect of possibly having to measure up to the stereotype of my Master's dick. Isn't that ultimately the same thing? They've actually gotten dressed (and not just one or two of them). It's funny - and he's never gotten undressed - it was just the mere possibility)

The body parts that are traditionally (even if falsely) seen as determiners of masculinity are as compared one against the other as body parts that are traditionally (even if falsely) seen as determiners of femininity - even if they're obviously different body parts.
