Has anyone had experience with multiple genital piercings? I had 6 done on my outer lips around Thanksgiving and am still experiencing a lot of swelling and pain. They aren't infected - I did go to the doctor. But her only piercing experince is with ears so she couldn't answer questions on what to expect. It is totally strange, the swelling will go down and I can almost walk normal then I wake up the next day and they are swollen and sore. Can't find a pattern to it. Anyone with suggestions PLEASE!

I personally don't really know about pussy piercings.
I did have my nipple done one time, but alas I'm allergic to surgical steel and had to take it out after trying 8 months.
What I wanted to say is I've heard many many people say when they had their tongue pierced it took up to 6 months to heal.
Maybe since you're piercings are in an area where they move around all the time it's something like that.
There's a spray called nupercanal (sp)that may help with the swelling and discomfort.
It's usually in the hemorrhoid treatment section of your local drug store.
It's completely safe for vaginal wounds as they recommend it when you tear having a child, and that's a deep tear.
Maybe call the person or shop where you were pierced.
They may have advice for you too.
If you did it at home I'd still call a piercer, explain it was self done, and checked by your doctor. They may still give you advice.

maybe the swelling is due to to a problem with the piercing in a lymphatic channell???  just a thoguht  maybe go back tot he piercer??  who ever pokes the hole should know how to caref or it and what is normal...my doctors first response wouldl  be lets take that out and see what happens  LOL

Thanks for the suggestions. I have been back to the piercer . . . really no answers even though he is a "master piercer". As for the doc . . . I'm lucky she just said no sign of infection and asked if they clang during sex.

I think people can hit a "critical mass" of piercings in a single area after which the last one just won't heal. My 3rd ear piercings never would heal. 6 in a single area is a lot, especially if they were done all at once. If it were me (I have my clit hood and both nipples pierced) I might pick a pair to leave in, and take the rest out, and gradually, like 1 pair a year after the ones you leave in heal, have them redone.

That is a lot to do at once. What gauge were they pierced at? Captive Bead Rings, or barbells, or ? Do you wear tight undies, or go commando, or ? Are they subject to a lot of... activity? When they become painful, are they bleeding or getting "crusty" as well, or just swelling?
The outer labia generally don't get as much blood circulation as the inner labia or clit hood, and can be slower to heal- more like a navel piercing would behave than the way other genital piercings do. As such, if you're getting a lot of rough rides , wearing tight clothing that puts pressure on them, etc., you'll keep re-opening the piercings. If you're wearing rings in them, they could be tangling and pulling each other as you move in your sleep.

Please tell me what they look like and what your care regimen is.

On what they look like:  Please tell me of any other than normal fleshtone colorations, color and consistancy of discharge from them, and any movement of entrance sites.

On care regimen:  Please tell me how often and with what you are cleaning them.

I'm curious... why does it bother you?

And what exactly do you base that on? Wouldn't it be possible for two people at two different sites to choose the same screenname?

[RANT]

(This rant is directed at no one in particular.)

This is the some of the silliest shit I've ever heard of....Get this...

Someone goes to the doctor with an infected body piercing, and the doctor tells the person to take the jewelry out and let it heal.  You take it out, the doctor cleans it up, you pay your co-pay for the visit, and you're on your way.  Problem solved, right?  WRONG!

Hmmm...Let's put our Common Sense Hats on, shall we?  If there's a bunch of infection in the piercing and you take the jewelry out, the outsides of the holes are going to close before the insides, leaving you with infection in your skin, which could lead to absess, cellulitis, and keloid scaring, if left unchecked.

You'd think a more prudent course of action would be to leave the jewelry in, providing an exit for all the nasties while you're treating the infection, thereby saving the piercing.

Instead of wasting money going to the doctor, try calling/visiting the body piercer who poked ya.  It is their area of expertise.  They did the piercing; not the doctor.  In most cases, reputable body piercing artists are more than willing to do whatever they can to help you when you have issues with piercings.  Please, please, please think about what you're doing before you follow your doctor's advice on body piercings.  You could save yourself a lot of time, money, and perhaps the piercing itself, as well.

[/RANT]

10 guage captive bead. 3/4" rings . . . started with 1/2" but after 3 weeks the piercer felt they may have been too small for the area. Coloring is normal to a bit pink - not an angy red like an infection. We've been "babying" the rings so they really have seen little play. We had asked for the rings with the "invisible" closure but the piercer didn't recomend them for new piercing as he felt that was an area for bacteria to hide. There have been a few days with almost no swelling where i could actually feel the rings thru my skin. But most of the time there is a ridge down thru the middle of them kind of hard and lumpy. No tight panties or jeans - baggy stretch pants or skirts most of the time.

I started with the piercer's reccomended care - provon antibacterial soap am followed by emu oil and a sea salt soak evening followed by emu. The Provon is too strong so I went to soft soap antibacterial and had been using epsom salt soaks. Thought maybe the emu was the culprit and the doctor recommended triple antibiotic so I tried that.

Now I'm down to it's been 2 months maybe I'm doing too much so just using the very mild eucerin cleanser and lotion I use on my face - fragrance free etc.

um..your piercer gave you the wrong information: I'm a piercer so I should know...Sea Salt is good for piercings NOT in the genital area as they irritate easily (oddly, urine is a GREAT cleaner and its there naturally!).  And OIL on a piercing???????????? Who told you THAT?? They need to BREATHE and oil prevents that-no wonder you're still sore and not healing!!!!

My suggestion is that you just wash it with plain antibacterial soap and keeping the area as clean as possible (no sex, dear..BAD!) and when you can, go underwear and pants free to allow the piercings time to breathe.  DO NOT PUT ANY LOTIONS OR OIL ON ANY PIERCING ANYWHERE EVER.  I am not sue I can make that clear enough.

And find a different piercer or go to www.bmezine.com to learn the proper way to care for tattoos and piercings.

Yeah...What MistressAinCT said.  I've actually had really good results using H2Ocean Piercing spray.  It's suppose to be antimicrobial and antifungal, made with natural sea salt. You may be able to get it at your local Hot Topic, or you can order it online.

Best of Luck,
~MrsShadows~

Sounds like you did pretty well as far as piercing and jewelry goes. A six-pack of 10ga rings is a lot to heal, though props to you for not messing around   Three weeks is pretty early to be swapping jewelry out- that tends to be fairly traumatic for a healing piercing. The piercer was right about avoiding the invisible closure rings until the piercings are healed. Avoiding tight clothes is a good plan. i've not heard of eucerin... why are you putting a lotion on them- are you experiencing problems with dry skin?

i am not a doctor nor do i play one on the internet, but i do agree that your original regimen had too much damn stuff going on, and the emu oil was not really a good choice for a healing piercing. IMO (and while i don't have any outer labia rings for obvious reasons, i've been doing permanent piercings as a hobby for better than ten years), don't mess with them more than you have to, clean them twice a day with a mild soap, stick with the loose clothing. Make sure you clean off any "crusties" from the rings, but don't rotate them any more than you have to. If you see any signs of infection- red, hot skin, excessive discharge, etc., go back to your doctor (could be worse- my urologist kinda freaked at my hardware... just kept shaking his head and muttering "Craziness!"), otherwise, give them another month of "babying" and see how things progress. If you find that they're suddenly sore when you wake up in the morning, try sleeping in reasonably loose cotton "granny panties" to keep them from moving around too much, and to make sure your husband isn't messing with them while you're asleep ()

Good luck,

...dave

Dammit, I wrote a long detailed bit and the web ate it.  Here goes again, I'm a piercer and will be repeating a bit of what another piercer here said before:

First, you need to follow the LITHA method of healing:  Leave It The Hella Alone.  If you are not cleaning it there should be no sex, no oral, no touching, no tugging, no rotating, no nothing.  Neither your nor any other hands (or other body parts) should come in contact with the piercings while healing.

As the other piercer here said, go without bottoms when you can.  You need to keep them as unrestricted as possible to relieve any tension on them and to allow for the best circulation as possible.  In addition to going without bottoms when possible, sit with your legs a bit open to allow the best conditions for them.

Again echoing the other here, stop the Emu Oil.  This can be excellent for use on piercings past the initial healing stage, but should not be used on fresh ones.  No oils, ointments or creams should be put on fresh piercings.

Stop the Epsom Salts.  Salt soaks should Only be done with non-iodized sea salt, 1/4 tsp to 8 oz warm water.  Echoing again, these should not be done so that the delicate tissues of the vulva can be irritated.  Use a sterile shot glass (or similar) at the beginning of each soak period to hold the solution only over the exit wounds.  Each exit wound should receive 2-5 minutes of soaking only.

Make sure the soap you are using now does not have any scents or moisturizers in it.  If it does change to another.

Cleansing:  2X a day you should be in the Shower letting the warm water run over the piercings to loosen lymph and blood crusts.  Soap up and rinse them thoroughly.  After this, do your salt soaks carefully and rinse afterwards so salt does not dry and stick to the skin.

Do not rotate the piercing at any time during cleansing or care.  Some will tell you to do this, but do not.  The jewelry used is smooth and non-porous, the skin will not fuse to it Your body's circulatory system and the drainage allowed by the jewelry to the surface of your skin will clean the inside of the puncture. Rotating during wear and cleansing is fine for healed piercings, but during the initial healing while the tunnel of flesh is still delicate it can cause irritation, tearing and possibly infection.

If 2X a day causes drying of the skin near the exit sites, you can cut back to 1X a day for a bit to see if this helps.  Once you find the right amount of cleaning for your skin, stick with it until completely healed (several months, initial + maturation of piercing).

At 2 months of healing, you are still very much in the normal range for the irritation you are getting from these piercings.  I just wanted to make sure there was nothing unusual occuring or that you could do better for yourself.  Though the vulva gets good circulation and this usually means a fairly quick and easy heal for other piercings, for the labia majora this isn't the case for many due to them being a slightly deeper pierce and so easily constricted and shifted during daily movement.  You sound fine, just alter your care a bit and do what you can to ease the rubbing and constriction.

If the irriation keeps occuring at this rate for more than another 2 months then I would suggest changing to titanium jewelry to rule out a reaction to the stainless steel.  But for now there doesn't seem to be any reason to believe this is the case.

Good luck in healing and I hope you get years of enjoyment from them!
