I can say that I've worked in an industry(?) that  has alot of them, they are classified as Nematodes. Wastewater treatment (yes, treatment of what comes down from the toilet too) otherwise known as sewage treatment, has huge populations of them. I can't reccomend treatment for them in the human body however the disinfection in a treatment plant is by various forms of chlorine. You will know one as Chlorox in you local supermarket. Keeping your bathroom clean with it is a great idea and a small measured bit with your laundry does help. Too much and you'll rot your clothing and bedding.
The garlic method sounds very interesting, it's almost a universal ingredient in dinner foods. I don't think washing my clothes with garlic is such a good idea though. You'll chase your partner away too!
I hope you find a solution with the OTC medication and the garlic and that chlorine in your cleaning gets 'em before they reinfest.

Try reading up on food grade diatomaceous earth.  It's used as a natural parasite killer/cleanser.  There's no chemical reaction in the body like drugs or herbs.  It comes out the same way it went in (well it goes in your mouth and out your ass), but you understand.  It can also be sprinkled in carpets and such to kill off fleas, etc....

That is the best single advice yet for the TOTAL problem.  Diatomaceous earth kills everything.  It is like razor blades to everything it touches but it is safe for pets, humans, any animal you would care about.  It is a cure all for ants, spiders, fleas, all sorts of stuff you don't want in your home.

As for the Pinworm question in general, the best practice is complete sanitation.  This simply requires a few bottles of something like Lysol Kitchen cleaner (or bathroom, but not around foods) that has bleach and antibacterials in it.  You'll have to clean the entire house from top to bottom, all of the kids toys and every surface you think they are touching or could reach.  Vacuum everything and wash all the clothes in hot water with a little bleach (5% is enough)

Then there is the personal hygiene.  Wash their little bottoms as much as possible, definitely before bed and in the early a.m. and change their underwear when you do this (they will sleep in a clean pair then change again in the morning).  Clip their fingernails as short as possible and continually make them wash their hands and show you their nails for inspection.  The human pinworm only has a life cycle of a few days so a continual infection means they are going from hand to mouth as was suggested, the baby scratches then sucks their thumb, or touches a surface infected with eggs and then puts their hands in their mouths.

Here are the steps in detail:
