I'm an INFP. On the face of it, it would look like I should be a submissive -- INFPs are harmony-loving, interdependent, empathic listeners.

I don't think the correlation is between personality type and D or s, but personality type and the way that you "do" D/s. For me, a prerequisite for exploring D/s with someone is that they feel right for me, that we feel in synch with one another. I tend to go from the global toward specifics. I'm primarily interested in what's going on inside rather than the externals. I see D/s as inviting someone into a very intimate space in which I can delve inside him and play. These ways of doing D/s are very much INFP ways.

The OP wondered what a Field Marshall type person would be like. I've dominated two people of that type, and I found that while they needed different things to nurture their submissive headspace, they were certainly submissive, and could be submissive to someone with a "quieter" personality like myself.

I am a bit of a ENTJ- ENTP flip flop... has come up as one or the other over the years. Just though ENT on the front of it and it's me.

Are there others which flip flop as well? I keep telling people I don't fit into molds and labels well....

Seek to develop logical explanations for everything that interests them. Theoretical and abstract, interested more in ideas than in social interaction. Quiet, contained, flexible, and adaptable. Have unusual ability to focus in depth to solve problems in their area of interest. Skeptical, sometimes critical, always analytical.

ISFJ here........ correlation to being submissive?

ISFJs are characterized above all by their desire to serve others, their "need to be needed." In extreme cases, this need is so strong that standard give-and-take relationships are deeply unsatisfying to them....

Ironically, because they prove over and over that they can be relied on for their loyalty and unstinting, high-quality work, those around them often take them for granted--even take advantage of them.

Admittedly, the problem is sometimes aggravated by the ISFJs themselves; for instance, they are notoriously bad at delegating - "If you want it done right, do it yourself". (what's LA always saying about many subs being perfectionist control freaks? ;) And although they're hurt by being treated like doormats, they are often unwilling to toot their own horns about their accomplishments because they feel that although they deserve more credit than they're getting, it's somehow wrong to want any sort of reward for doing work (which is supposed to be a virtue in itself).

well, perhaps there is no direct correlation of personality type to what role you play, but there are a larger than expected number of the INT types here. Considering what percentage of those folks there are in the general population, maybe they have a propensity towards the lifestyle after all. But everyone, with one exception has been an "N" so far. Perhaps it's just coincidence, but it seems like a statistical anomoly.

Well, this is just a tiny sample of people who all enjoy reading forums on the internet and are interested enough in personality types to know theirs and actually post about it. So it's not a fair sample of people in the lifestyle and such.

This test must remain fairly intact, results-wise over time. I remember taking it as a staff development activity at a former job (15 years ago), and I remain INTJ. We broke into groups and had discussions and talked about our "dream occupations".

Look at all these introverts...

INTP here. (P/J split actually, about 50/50 in the tests, but I think the J is an adaptation)

I'm not sure how this relates to my kinky nature, except that INTPs tend to be thinkers...and I wonder if the appeal of kink for me is that it gets me out of world of thought and into the world of the body and sensations.

I'm also an INTJ. All of that described me completely - I don't see one thing incorrect.

There really isn't a personality category for people interested in BDSM. I think introverts tend to become bottoms and extroverts tops, but there are always exceptions. And it definitely seems like INTJs are more prone to come to forums like this one.

I am an ENFJ, and it was actually after reading about my personality type that I began to recognize and understand my submissive nature.

Once I got past the "creepy" feeling of reading something that seemed to be written about me, I began noticing a thread woven amongst the words...

...They make a consistent effort to say and do the right thing— so much so that conforming to others' expectations (or their notion of what others expect), is occasionally a problem for them...

...They easily accept authority. They mind their p's and q's, respect their should's and should not's...

...they base their personal habits on a feeling of obligation to their mate...

...Their desire to please others is so strong...

...Pleasing others matters to ENFJs so much...

...A goal for their personality type is acceptance, but more than that: acceptance as they really are— no mask, no pretense, no facade. Being genuine and sincere is what matters to them...

...They invest their total self— time, energy, patience and sensitivity— in relationships. They often are disappointed, for few understand their concept of knowing another, and fewer still are capable of achieving the kind of interpersonal connection they want...

INTJ here...

I've seen these tests done on large email communities and on my college campus, and I've never seen so many INTJs before. I'm leaning towards thinking it may be an anomaly.
