It could be as simple as,
"One who admits they are controlled by the others submission."

A SWITCH IN MY DEFINITION IS:

WHAT ONCE WAS UP, NOW MUST COME DOWN..

ta da

for me anyway, and i also find that more people tend to go way or the other. But for me, sometimes i really need to take control, and sometimes if my day has been really stressed and i've have to be in control all day i'd like to come home and have some else take control and i can submit easily and with relief...lol

A pro-dominant switch:
"One who enjoys receiving what he/she gives"

A pro-submissive switch:
"One who enjoys giving what he/she receives"

First, are we talking about D/s switch or S&M switch?

I think that makes a huge difference.

Ok... now that is just funny... I've said the same thing to myself and yet it seems that all I can find that actually wishes to share a bed is my own master. I have the permission to play but it seems that very few wish to play. Wah!! Oh well... i have more than enough fun with my master.

in responce to the op: a switch is a person who enjoys control - both the letting go and taking of - and sees life through many pair of eyes, while at the same time keeping true to their own sexuality, sensuality, and natural tendancies.

besides, this whole hubaloo over switches being part of or not part of the bdsm community is crap. anyone who has issue with my sexuality/sensuality/kink is probably not someone i want/need to be haning around/playing/sleeping with.

as to the bi thing: again, i choose not to take offence to anyone's questioning of my sexuality. i have often jested, saying, "i'm not bi; i'm just easy." but when it comes right down to it, i simply refuse to limit myself to finding a sutable match based on weather they have a dick or no.

perversangelic, i respect and support your sexual choices. and i repect and support your desire to not face pejudice simply because of them. but be reasonable. saying that the only people who can/should make light hearted jests about a group are people in that group is limiting and silly. yes, racism and prejudice are horrible things, but automatically assuming that everyone who diplays a bit of sarcasim is being serious, or that a jesting comment is meant to harm is in and of itself perjudiced. besides, more than one switch chuckled at merc's one liner.

I think I so have to mainly agree with firefly here. I'm a switch myself, and my partner is also a switch. And I think the thing for both of us is that it comes down to the fact that we both like to be in control of the control, of that makes sence.

In my everyday life I normally work looking after other people, and some time it just gets to me and I just want to be in a place where I don't need to make any choices but to obey. And where the only thing I need to focus on controlling is myself. That I am a well behaved submissive for that day, week, and sometimes month. That I try and control myself, and any fears I have about not doing what the "Mistress" wants. Where even though my body and my inpulses want to reject whatever I've ben told to do, I focus on controlingmyself to allow what they want.

Then there are other times that ether my partner or friends want someone to be in control of them, and so I become a dom for a time. But for me that is still a time to explore control and to see how different forms of control effect different people.

I think as I personaly see the three sides of D/S is thus;
Dom - gets kicks from being in control
Sub - gets kicks from being controled
Switch - gets kicks from the study of control, and finding a way to be in control in all places.

This one is too easy. Simple put: I will be in total control except those times that you are in total control. Ain't life good?

Personally....

I do not see a need for a "one sentence definition for the term switch" because I don't think you can encompass all the myriad nuances, possiblities, percentages, degrees, and variances that you will find in each individual that might use that term.

I think people are too lazy in conversation in general. I think one word labels just encourage the sound bite mentality and dumbs it down. My opinion, natch.

In regard to the claimed "funny" about the term switch should be defined as the person that can always play - I wasn't offended in the least but I was struck by how shallow, superficial and ridiculous that was - either as an attempt at humour, or a definition. Didn't find it slightly funny, nor offensive ... but pretty simpleminded of an approach - again... either as an attempt at humour or an attempt at an answer for the original poster's query. JMO. <shrug>

As if play - how we play, who we play with, and how often that play occurs - is how we define ourselves, switch or not. *snort* I don't know about anyone else, but I can say for me, it certainly isn't that simplistic. My POV.

Don't really care how others see it unless I'm scening with them, to be honest. *chortle*

And um, before someone gets all 'tude-driven at my post, remember to apply those disclaimers. *wink*

lol.

a switch is a person who is exactly in that kind of mood! We don't always want to be in control all the time!

I am a switch, but I'm not morbidly serious or angsty about it. It just is a part of me, nothing to be ashamed of nor brag about. So here it is, hopefully I don't terribly offend:

Playing on the Kink see-saw.

Meaning that depending on the person across from me I may Top or bottom, it just depends on how we are matched.

Hi I'm looking for someone who can come up with a really good one sentence positive definition of what a switch is, that could be posted on our profiles, that everyone could understand. Are you UP for the challenge.

An individual who can play either role be it dom or sub and be comfortable with both.

A person who is versatile.

That's how I prefer to describe myself...as versatile, rather than "a switch". "A switch" always sounds so negative to me...like I can't make up my mind, or I switch in the moment, neither of which applies to me. I'm versatile, because with some people I'm submissive, with some people I'm dominant, with some I'm a bottom, with others, a top. I'm also bisexual. So...versatile :)
