The pill made me sick. The Ring irritated my pussy and killed my sex drive comnpletely. Currently I am w/o any form of birth control.

the pill generally will make a girl sick, b/c like advised she takes it in the morning [on an empty stomach] yea my pill will make me sick too, if i dont take it with crackers or milk. or i take it early enough so i can sleep off the nausea

i've had an IUD for the last 8 years and have never had any problems with it, even after several vigorious fisting sessions its never moved or slipped out of place. its good for up to 10 years and a new one is as easy as making a doctors appt.

the best part is im not sick to my stomach all day long.

i've never taken the pill in the morning. i used to be an assistant manager of a clothing store and had to work different shifts, so sometimes i worked until late and didn't work until later in the day the next day, so i slept in....thus the only time of day that i knew i'd be home and/or awake AND could always remember to take my pill was before bed. i took it when i brushed my teeth before bed. i've done this with several other meds, including my former daily MS shot which gave me flu like symptoms every day....take it at night before bed and usually by the time you wake up and need to be active you'll feel fairly decent. also...like i said before, ask to try another type of pill.........at some point i nearly guarantee there'll be one that doesn't make you feel sick to your stomach beyond the normal breaking in period. the first few i tried were awful on me....four switches later and i found one, but i nearly gave up.

the important thing with the pill is that you take it around the same time every day to have it be the most effect ve and you are more likely to take it!!!

im thinking HOMOSEXUALITY....only option not mentioned (yes Im joking dont kill me Im in a mood)

My doctor don't recomend IUD's for women of child bearing age whoknow they may want children.

You can stay on it for about 3 years then the dr starts disapproving because it could cause calicuim loss. I should get off the shot, because it's been more than 3 years, but I have no desire to find any other kind of birthcontrol. You can take calcuim pills to offset the risk of loosing calcuim.

I missed my shot and I didn't realise it one time, and I was spotting and I thought something was wrong because a few days before a sex toy had caused some tearing, and every time I checked I was still bleeding even up to 4 days after, well it was spotting from missing depo, and I was weepy and clingy and I had back aches and oye!

If you are having a bad experience with one pill, you can try others. I took ON 777 for years, then took a 2 year hormone break, then went onto Alesse (a VERY low-dose variety). A few months back, Wyeth (the manufacturer) had some sort of manufacturing problem and I couldn't get the brand name, and I started having AWFUL reactions to the generic they gave me, Aviane. The pharmacist suggested just trying another generic - and the new one Lessina is perfectly fine for me. It just depends on your body - everyone is different, and even you will change over time.

Years ago (21 years, eek!) when the sponges were out the first time, I used to use those and was pleased with them. You can put them in a few hours in advance so you don't have to interrupt the moment. I do think there is an odd taste associated with the spermicide, though. But, at least you are not screwing with your hormones on a daily basis for infrequent sex. You can use the sponge with a condom for an added layer of safety.

Vasectomies are NOT always reversible - that is a fact!

Omg, these stories are horrifying me. I've never used anything but condoms and withdrawal/rythm. Real involved forms of birth control scare me but I'd use a diaphram or sponge. It seems like a real bad idea to be messing with hormones.

I do not want to mess with hormones, so I use Ortho Options Conceptrol Gel, you can buy it at any pharmacy type store. It comes in a box of 10, I think. It is easy to use and no probs with oral. It is made by the same company that makes the pill and I have not had any issues yet.

Another option you may want to look into is Vaginal Contraceptive Film. They are easy to use and look like an Altoids or Listerine breath strip, just be sure you insert them a few minutes ahead of time so they have time to dissolve..

I took Ortho-Novum for a year, which worked fine with me. Then the OB-GYN switched me to Yasmin, which I only took for 2 months because it was making me super depressed. I would cry over absolutely nothing. I then got put onto Ortho-Tri-Cyclin (I think that was the one...), which worked fine, but when I lost my parents' insurance, I couldn't afford it anymore.

Now, I'm getting Depo at the Planned Parenthood. There's one that's about an hour and a half from my house, but they're the only one in the area that does sliding scale fees. I took my pay stub from my new job, and it only cost me $13.

If I can ever find the money to do it, I'm going to a doctor locally that does Essure. I will do whatever it takes to get the procedure. Me + kids that I can't give back to their parents = bad things.

Well ... while I'm composing this note, my cute, funny, bright clerk with the now swelling belly is filing some papers in my office. 20, a straight-A college student, with a good shot at law school in two years...and now....pffffffttttt. Because "well it was his birthday and I was at a good time in my cycle and we were a bit tipsy and he's going to stay with me forever so..."

I'm not saying she won't succeed down the road, and I deeply hope that she's happy with her choices, but looking at it from the 50 year old male/boss/father perspective...what a waste. Pardon me, but what a total fucking criminally insane waste.

So, that said. Use the rhythm method, the mucous method, the "pull out now" method or any other old wives' tale at your extreme peril. I would have thought this didn't need to be said to a healthy, seemingly intelligent 20 year old woman, but discussion on this board, and the evidence about 5 feet away from me bending over the file cabinet says otherwise:   UNPROTECTED SEX LEADS TO BABIES. OK? are we all clear, now? BABIES.

The rest of this post is much less important.

As for the chemical/barrier methods other than the pill: You have a pretty good catalogue of pluses and minuses. I would be very careful of anything permanent -- you are after all only 20, and may want children down the road. Both tubal ligation and its variants, and vasectomy, must be considered permanent. LOOK at the reversal rates, which are pretty low, and decide if that's the sort of gamble you like to take.

I'm suspicious of the IUD, mostly because (1) no one really can explain why it works and (2) call me foolish, but any form of medicine that originates with peach pits and camel uteruses makes me squicky.   Oh, that and there are pretty horrific although rare side effects with metal allergies, internal scarring, and cramping.

Yes, I can feel the ring. And with finger/fist play it has to come out. Yes I can feel the sponge (and some men have allergic reactions to it -- from a warm tingly to "OH MY GOD MY DICK IS ON FIRE!"   And you KNOW how possessive we are about our equipment.) On the other hand, HE could wear a condom. So feeling the the little ring is like...big deal. I think any form of birth control you like should be used, regardless of his issues. With the ring in, I have a mental image I'm playing "ring toss". I know, the anatomy is fucked up, but the imagery is fun...especially if we are wearing the "bad clown" costume.

But I digress.

Hi everyone, i had my share of using hormones as a contraceptive method, i used only shoots, due to my veins problems and it was ok, until on the 3rd i made an ugly alergic reaction...then, after some major surgery i had a massive pulmonary embolism so now i can`t use any hormonal products at all....foremost, any pregnancy can kill me cause it`s a high risk for getting another embolism...so all i can do is either abstinence or to find a partener with vasectomy...or a lady partener :)...anyway, all i wanted to say is that everyone has to find the best solution, one that doesn`t do more harm then good, this is it

My real reccomendation is for a low estrogen ill. they usually have the lowest side effects.

I gained much weight while on the shot, still trying to lose it. My one girlfriend was on the shot, and it gave her these rashes on her legs, and she spotted continuously on and off for months. I guess it depends on each different person, but I would definitely read up on the side effects before taking the Depo shot.

Has anyone else heard of the IUC i've been seeing commercials for lately? Effective for 5 years and 99.9% effective. i'm thinking about seeing my doc about this one.
