Status: offline 		Collarme is an adult site and you must be 18+ to have/view a profile.  Does this effectively negate the possibility of meeting an underage person or falling prey to a sting operation?

Nothing ever negates the possibility that the underage population can manage to 'invade'. Think about it. Collar me does not ask for definitive proof of age; anyone can come on here, claim to be a certain age, put up a profile, etc etc. The same goes for those in law enforcement. I can almost guarantee that they police this site just as they do others.

Status: offline 		Hell NO, it does not.  It is too easy to set up an adult profile on almost any of the web sites out there.  Trust me if they really want to they will figure out a way to do it, only thing you can do is try to verify who it is you are talking to.  As for the stings, they are just as good as the scammers, (and I know of 6 scam profiles on here now) so again all you can do it try to verify who you are talking with.  As with any site or anything on the web....use caution.  Oh and I save copies of ALL contact, IM's and emails, just to C.Y.A.

Edited for spelling, it's too damn early.....also they do not ask for proof of age, only a disclaimer that you are an adult.  Just like any other site, as long as you enter the correct birthday, you are in.

Status: offline 		I would not worry unless you are advertising for a young individual. Also in sting operations in order to be legal they must tell you they are under 18.  If you proceed after being told this then shame on you! If any says they are under 18 my policy is to inform the site operators. 

So what did we learn?

If you are sick individual please mail yourself to a little island where you can't bother anyone... and if you search for or communicate with someone that says they are underaged then I will look for you on the news as they arrest you!

Status: offline 		It is your responsibility to make sure that your partner is of legal age.  If there is any doubt ask for proof.  Consider also that in many states there are levels of penalties.  For instance a 22 year old person has sex with a 15 year old person who happens to look 18 = big trouble due to the age spread.  However if you are 18 and she turns out to be 17, in some states there is little problem. 

If you use reasonable attempts (as perceived by a potential jury) to ascertain legality you will most likely be safe.

The famous porn star Tracey Lords is an interesting case in point.  She falsified her age to the porn company.  Later it was discovered that films were made while she was underage, and these became (and are) illegal to own.  I do not know if her employer was charged, or if any porn co-star was charged.

A sting operation will not work against you unless you know that the person is underage.

The posted comment quoted above is, I feel, innapropriate.  There is no indication that you are doing anything other than asking a well meant question.  I suggest that you ignore it, and realize that many of us here have been abused and some are overly sensitive.  For that person I suggest that she read the excellent book "Courage to Heal," and or join a Courge to Heal workshop.

This is no different from 99% of the open internet
(credit cards aren't for the 18+ anymore).

And since kids (if they were like me) are curious and the good stuff requires them to lie about their age, they will. And as the rewards grow, they will be rewarded with forbidden knowledge, for getting good at it.

I've got it easy as I'm looking for RL meets in the small city of Auckland, in the small country that is New Zealand, plus I'm a caffeine slut (even got a "will spank for a great coffee" sign) so a coffee meet is one of the first things organised.

But until you know the flesh behind the nick, you do have to watch what you type.

And even afterwards too, I use MSN almost exclusively for chatting and organising, and one things I train people to do is to use a back and forth, inisde joke within the first paragraph. So we know it's the other typing and not their bored flatty jumping on and looking for an answer, a laugh or a bit of leverage.

I actually had an ex police officer tell me that you can be prosecuted for sex with a minor even if they show you an ID beforehand and you don't find out until later that it was fake.

Minors get in and get booze with a fake ID
Cops start a search, minors lose the fake ID so they don't get busted for any crime an innocent expression wont cover.
Pub has to provide $50000 worth of explanations on why said minor was served.

Not being confrontational, just correcting the information.  :)

2 points, one serious and bears understanding, the other just some trvia shit.

Someone claiming to be of age is not a defense.  Someone providing you with false identification is not a defense.
I was a cop for several years, and probably the case I worked that I personally felt that most horrified by went as follows:

* guy goes to a bar, drinking age is 21
* meets girl at bar (presumably having been carded)
* they pick each other up, go somewhere - hotel of his house, can't recall
* sees her ID himself, in order to protect himself.  Says 22.
* 3weeks into the relationship he decides to cut things off, she says I'll make your life hell
* he cuts it off, she turns him into the police for statuatory, since she's 16

* conviction in less than 30minutes deliberation of jury, although he got a very light sentence in view of the circumstances.

After that case, whenever I dated or hooked up with anyone I felt was even possibly near the age of consent, I asked them to provide a birth certificate +/- a passport.  One girl on here can actually attest that I took pictures of her holding her birth cert.

Also, when NormaJean / Traci Lords flipped for underage, that engendered some HUGE fines for the porn companies, and several agents.  She is universally despised in the adult entertainment community for that.  No costars were charged.

Status: offline 		There is no such thing as a light sentence with statuatory rape. Anyone convicted has to register as a sex offender for the rest of their lives because of Megan's law. I wonder how many people are on that list because they thought they were having sex with an adult and it turned out to be a minor with a fake id.

Status: offline 		You know I'm not all that concerned about that particular circumstance. I've been around the block and I've never been asked for an ID, nor have any of my friends. I've been asked how old I was and I never lied but no one ever asked for anything to back it up, including in bars where many different ages could go in.

Status: offline 		on alt.com A friend of mine had her 14 year old daughter posing as a 20 year old. so no. Supposed to be 18 and over does not gaurntee we're all legal age.

Hell when I was 19 I often said yes I was 21 just to get into online porno sites where you had to click yes I am 21 and over please let me in.

Status: offline 		Obviously you can meet an underaged person anywhere. They're very good at getting in where they aren't supposed to be. Just as we were. Well, I was, at any rate. Yes, I had a regular bartab at 14...

So far as a sting, the way I understand it those are generally perpetrated by older male law enforcement officers who portray themselves as underage girls or boys online, keep logs of their chats, and then arrest you when you go to meet them. Since they aren't who they claim to be, and are not actually underage, they wouldn't have much of a case unless they tell you they're underaged and you go for it. So as long as you *dont* go for anyone that tells you they're underage, you should be safe from that, no?

in regards to sting operations, what has been said here is correct. The only way for them to work, is for all conversations to remain saved and recorded. The person must state clearly that they are looking to have sex, or to meet ( in person ) a minor.
 
Like most who have stated, if one is truly concerned about the age of another, take measures to insure that they are who they state they are.

It's really quite simple. When in doubt , walk away from the other person. If you are so concerned that you are violating a law in regards to one who is underage; then you need to step back and walk away. Period.

Status: offline 		I'm not an expert, since I'm a girl and I like people older than me and the stings usually target men looking for younger partners, but it would seem that they wouldn't be operating here in that way.  They get you to try to arrange sex with a minor, and even though the person at the other end turns out not to be a minor, you get in trouble because you believed them to be.  But if you're seeking out partners who aren't minors, that would seem odd.  Sting operations on an 18+ site I would assume would either involve someone confessing to having lied (at which point you say "sorry, call me when you're legal"), or other illegal activities, such as prostitution or photos that violate laws.

I have asked for ID for the only one said they were of Age of Consent but under 18 and when the person would not I did walk away.
(Who would have a fake under 21, yet over 16 or 17 ID? The way I figure if they get a fake ID it would show them to be at least 20 to get booze. But hey I could be wrong!)
What is scary is that within drving distance of me the Age of Consent is 14!! WOW! (Canada- well Ontario at least.)
Once place in the Good Old USof A it is 13! Added to that someone out here might be tempted to trust information on the Age Of Consent found out on the internet.  It could well be wrong, OR the laws could have been changed and the Web Info not updated. And it differes dependent upon gender. I know Canada is thinking about raising it to 16 as they do not want to look like they are promoting Sexual Tourism.
Better safe and just take matter into you own hand(s) then risk it!!
