deadbluebird -> Bush visit ignites violence between police, protesters (3/8/2007 5:25:13 PM)

http://www.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/americas/03/08/bush.protests.ap/index.html

I am curious what people think about this.

FukinTroll -> RE: Bush visit ignites violence between police, protesters (3/8/2007 5:27:47 PM)

I am surprised the Police were against the protestors.

hisannabelle -> RE: Bush visit ignites violence between police, protesters (3/8/2007 5:35:27 PM)

i think that as long as a protest is peaceful, it's wrong for physical action to be taken against the protesters. i also think it's really more important to hear both sides of the individuals living in brazil on this issue, than it is to hear mine. after all, they're the ones who will be the most affected.

domiguy -> RE: Bush visit ignites violence between police, protesters (3/8/2007 6:02:20 PM)

As long as it doesn't impact Carnival...I could care less...But it would be wrong for the police to damage any of those perfect Brazilian boobies..

Sanity -> RE: Bush visit ignites violence between police, protesters (3/8/2007 7:15:28 PM)

I think that Leftists LOVE to protest, and that they seem to have an awful lot of free time on their hands.

Dtesmoac -> RE: Bush visit ignites violence between police, protesters (3/8/2007 7:17:53 PM)

The actions of George Bush jnr over the last few years have made a lot of people outside of the US very, very angry in a way that I don't think previous presidents have. Whilst some presidnets have been unpopular Bush is really hated in many places by a wide variety of people of all political view points.  Some people will always find an excuse for violent demonstration but perhaps with GW it is more a boiling over of feelings than an fight looking for an excuse to happen.

nah, it's just that instead of spending our precious free time golfing at the country club, we prefer to put it toward more, well, socially aware activities.

(public service announcement: this sarcasm was brought to you by a very tired, very cynical annabelle and is not intended to be taken seriously. in fact, pour the whole damn shaker of salt on it. i couldn't resist.)

"In Sao Paulo, some carried stalks of sugarcane -- used to make ethanol -- and a banner reading: "For every liter of ethanol produced, 4 liters of fresh water are consumed, monoculture is destroying the nation's greatest asset." ".  Apperantly one of the biggest issues is that we want to buy more ethanol from them, which the left in America seems to be all in favor of....Ironic -- Bush is being protested abroad for trying to do what the left demands at home.

Any thinking person would know that ethanol is not America's answer as an alternative fuel. Half of Brazilian traffic is run on ethanol I believe, if all that was exported to the US, it would barely satisfy 3% of the market. If all the agricultural land in the US grew crops for ethanol, it would barely touch the market demand. Apart from that, agriculture is a heavy carbon emissions industry and by the time the ethanol has got to the pumps, it will only reduce traffic wemissions by 10%.

As for the demonstrations in Brazil, if you haven't been out of the USA you won't understand just how hated Bush is. He is the man that has told the whole world they know nothing, he is the man that has pulled out of every meaningful international treaty, he is the man that has told the world he doesn't fucking care what anyone else thinks, what the USA says, goes!

Luckydog I hear the is a hell of a debate going on at this site. http://www.alien-ufos.com/

Sanity -> RE: Bush visit ignites violence between police, protesters (3/9/2007 5:29:57 AM)

They also said that they're pissed off because George Bush is building a fence along the border... something that Americans want, and something that makes me curious about the protesters' reasoning. They must really love America if they're all bent because they think that the President is making it harder to come here. Why would they care about the fence if they didn't want in, and why would they want in if they didn't like everything about us.

Bush travels to South America to spread around money, and try to out-socialist the socialists.

What return do you think he'll get for the 2 billion dollars worth of bribes to the rulers of those countries?

Think they forgot about that whole Contra thing with the raping of the nuns and other School of the Americas training?

Meat, "meaningfull treaties?"
I hope you don't count that fiasco called "KYOTO" as any type of "meaningfull treaty."
To me "meaningfull treaty" = "America pays."
The U.S. is only one country out of 195 in the "U.N." and we have to pay ONE THIRD of the bills?
Fuck that shit! That's like eating at a restaurant and everyone else pays $15 for a steak dinner but your's costs $400!
And, I don't want to be involved with anything that the "U.N." has anything to do with.
That's why "Global Warming" is a losing issue. The "U.N." is involved with it!
Funny, the people on the left and those beyond the left always make an outstanding argument for Isolationism.
I have to say that I absolutely agree with them on that issue.
I think it *really is* time for us to be a lot more in the isolationist camp as doing the opposite (Interventionism)very obviously doesn't work.
Maybe then "the world" won't "hate the U.S." like those on the left and those beyond the left have been screaming at us about.
Funny thing though, if we did act a lot more isolationist like the left wants I bet dollars to donuts that they'd be screaming at us about that as well! lol
Boy! I'm glad I'm not on the left! I'd have to spend my whole life screaming at people who are not on the left!
And if they changed their positions 180 degrees I'd *still* have to scream at them for (that) position!
"IRAQ! SCREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAM!"
"NO IRAQ!" "SCREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAM!"
"INTERVENTIONISM!" "SCREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAM!"
"ISOLATIONISM!"  "SCREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAM!"
Man! There's just no pleasing those people!
I think it's hillarious that the left (doesn't) want us in Iraq but these *very same people* (do) want us in Darfur! So they (do) believe in interventionism? Or they (don't?) Or they (do.) lol  "Go ahead, backup!"
Oh, on the left they have "The Left",& "Liberals" but what do they call the people beyond the left? Anyone know? I know a lot of people who consider themselves "liberals" and they are very reasonable people but don't consider themselves "on the left" or "on the right."
And I wish that Presidents would leave *OUR* checkbook behind when they visit foreign countries!
Bush can "promise" as much as he wants but that doesn't mean that the congress is going to appropriate any money, especially (this) congress. I know I'll be calling my congressman and telling him "NO" on any money for this.
Oh, and as for "water being consumed" to produce ethanol, that water just doesn't dissapear, it's recycled into something else.
Minus whatever has been kicked out into space by astronauts there is the exact amount of water on this planet as there was 10 million years ago.

Archer Daniels Midland is the number one alcohol pimp in the U.S, and they are hardly on the left.
I find it interesting that you find all the ills in america to be the fault of the what you call the left.
What would be your prefered fuel of choice for the U.S,  besides other peoples oil that is?

No it is more like eating a $2000 meal paying $400 and everyone else paying $15 and eating from the garbage can.

And, I don't want to be involved with anything that the "U.N." has anything to do with.

Funny, the people on the left and those beyond the left always make an outstanding argument for Isolationism.
I am curious ...just what is beyond the left?  Are you now making up new terms to define those who disagree with you?

I have to say that I absolutely agree with them on that issue.
I think it *really is* time for us to be a lot more in the isolationist camp as doing the opposite (Interventionism)very obviously doesn't work.
I could not agree more but corporate amerika likes taking your tax dollars cuz they do not have enough already.

Who exactly are these people you hate so much?

Boy! I'm glad I'm not on the left! I'd have to spend my whole life screaming at people who are not on the left!
As opposed to being where ever it is that you are and screaming at the left and the beyond left????

And if they changed their positions 180 degrees I'd *still* have to scream at them for (that) position!

It is your term, why don't you tell us what you mean by it.

I know a lot of people who consider themselves "liberals" and they are very reasonable people but don't consider themselves "on the left" or "on the right."
Now you have confused me I thought you said that the left was the liverals...have you been in the pain killers again?

And I wish that Presidents would leave *OUR* checkbook behind when they visit foreign countries!

Is there a spending bill that congress has sent to the president that he has not signed?

I think that Leftists LOVE to protest

Possibly, but when our government imposed a tax too far in this country, one designed to break the backs of pensioners and low-income workers, it was the left who did something about it and rioted in London (and I mean some serious rioting by English standards). As a result, the tax was abolished. Meanwhile, the extreme right (all 50 of them, bless 'em) were busy errmmmmm.....actually, no one knows (or cares) because they're such a waste of oxygen. The remaining right were the ones actually introducing this tax, so make of that what you will.

In terms of the protests in Brazil, their call and further evidence that this current US government is damaging the reputation of the US nation.......I know, you don't care what non-Americans think, spare me.

pahunkboy -> RE: Bush visit ignites violence between police, protesters (3/10/2007 4:44:33 AM)

Bush doesn't have any credability. He is hated here at home- why would the globe "love" him????

bush views himself as kink of the world. -[pupet for big greed]

Americans tend to think= oh well that wont happen here.  [fiat currency, rationing, loss of freedoms per patriot act.]

bush sealed off the Katrina area.  no EMTs, no truckloads of water from Walmart were allowed in. Mayor Daley of Chicago was fuming mad- had offerred many resources....
if bush doesnt wish to spend cash-fine- but to OBSTRUCT help the people all over the world tried to send- I suggest he sleep on the Internstate highway for 6 days......

luckydog1 -> RE: Bush visit ignites violence between police, protesters (3/10/2007 4:52:06 AM)

Thompson...My choice of fuel would be hydrogen.  First by using catalytic reformation process to get the hydrogen from Natural gas, and running pipes to every home( the same pipes can later be used to pump hydrogen) Then  producing every molercule of it we can from our garbage.  Then a mix of Tidal, Wind and Geothermal to make electrcity to make hydrogen to fill in the gap.  A widley dstributed power system of small Fuel cells in most every home or perhaps neighborhood.  The same stuff can run our vehicles also.

Not "all the ills" but most

NorthernGent -> RE: Bush visit ignites violence between police, protesters (3/10/2007 5:52:05 AM)

That reminds me of the Russian commander on the submarine who refused help from the Americans. His reason was politics and ideology are more important than life. Not sure what the US government's reasons were.
