Rafters -> Too much Gatorade better than too much water? (3/12/2007 5:05:43 AM)

Ok it's common knowledge that too much water added too quickly to a body, will cause it's electrolytes to be diluted and very bad things will happen.

Athletes swear by isotonic sports drinks for keepig their electrolytes up.

In scenes where we use copious quantities of water, can sports drinks be substituted, or am I replacing one problem with another??[:D]

Gatorade is riddled with sugar.  Could cause other problems.  There is a water on the market I drink while exerting myself much more than normal called Smart Water.  It has electrolytes added.
Would be a better answer than copious amounts of gatorade.

That is a good point, sub4hire. I think it would still be important to balance the need for glucose during a stressful period of play. During heavy physical exercise, glucose is being burned for energy, and sodium and chloride are being lost during sweat, and potassium is being lost due to muscle activity, so all of these electrolytes are needed in the replacement. During BDSM play, even though one can certainly be sweating, I don't think the volume of sweating is going to be comparable to a football game, or a run of several miles on a hot day, so it may be the water and the sugar which need replacing the most. When a sub (or Dom, for that matter) tends to get weak or faint during a session, it is often due to hypoglycemia or hypotension. Perhaps alternating plain water with a sports drink would be a good idea.

You really shouldn't be giving such copious amounts of ANY beverage to someone that it might cause them harm.  How about just plain old common sense and moderation?

JerseyKrissi72 -> RE: Too much Gatorade better than too much water? (3/12/2007 1:43:56 PM)

I agree 100 percent with Windchymes here. Everything should come in moderation. (except orgasms)[8D]

You are exactly right, Krissi, orgasms should ALWAYS cum in copious amounts!

Now a new question :too much  Bordeaux wine/ better then too much gatorade or water?

Oops wrong forum

PS: may i have some spare orgasms girls???? I do not know where I put mines, i have looked in my purse, wallet, even under my bed but found nothing

mixielicous -> RE: Too much Gatorade better than too much water? (3/20/2007 12:24:51 PM)

fast reply, gatorade is designed to replenish the body when under heavy exercise etc. it has high levels of the things that are excreted in your sweat. if you are not working hard gatorade is bad for you and not reccomended.

chloe, ya nice name and profile font [sm=paddle.gif] LOL

sadomasokisti -> RE: Too much Gatorade better than too much water? (3/21/2007 4:05:03 AM)

Most of my sessions are intensive 4-8 hrs Bondage and S&M sessions.  That includes usually one or two bottles of Gatorade or equivalent isotonic drink.  If i get completely drained during a session a Snickers bar or even a glucose sugar pills are administered along with a short brake.  And then we start over.

I always try to be well nourished and hydrated before a session and don't drink too much at a time during the session.  Hydration is specially important during a long cling film & duct tape mummification session.

hmmm orgasms?  During the last year I have orgasmed once during a session and that was because of a direct order from my Mistress to do so.

kellogg's k20 protein water contains 8 grams of sugar compared to gatorade's 28g (per 16 ounces) seems to be a much better alternative what with added protein and not just sodium and carbs.

As a wrestler, I used to go days without food or water and in my experiences, the best way to bounce back from dehydration was to drink a lot of water with a little shake of salt in it-- if you look at Gatorade, it has a lot of sugar in it, but as for sodium or potassium salts, there aren't that many. You must drink a very large amount of water to flush your electrolytes-- in my hardest practice ever, I lost eight pounds of water weight and I drank it all back in a day with unaltered water. In a play session, I doubt that it would be possible to consume so much water that you flush the electrolytes from your system. Stick with the water.

Manawyddan -> RE: Too much Gatorade better than too much water? (3/24/2007 7:25:49 AM)

I've founded it most helpful to me to mix 1/3 Gatorade with 2/3 water when rehydrating.

smart water still has zero grams of sugar.  Of course it doesn't have protein.  Though, I believe research long ago said something about liquid protein doing your body no good anyway?
Not sure if that has changed over the years or not.  Something about the way your body absorbs it if I recall.

habibi -> RE: Too much Gatorade better than too much water? (3/25/2007 3:02:08 PM)

sugar isn't a terrible thing, really...and personally i think it's better than alot of the alternative which frequently do nasty things like cause mouth sores and diarrhea.  it's really just a quantity thing.  sugar can be a quick source of energy when your blood sugar is getting low, but the problem comes when you drink something that's mostly sugar and has no other health benefits.  when you add it to something like protein, you get a better combination.  many people like "electolytes" in gatorade, but in truth, it's really just alot of salt....which, don't get me wrong, is good in some situations, but really only if you're talking about losing sweat in terms of liters.  that's just not going to happen for most play times.  the average american diet (not that of intensely training and closely monitored athletes) gets more than enough sodium in a day without deliberately adding more.  the average american takes in up to twice as much salt as the RDA allows for.  as for liquid proteins, they have been much improved in the last 30 years and are considered completely safe.  the problem comes when people get all crazy with their diets and only drink liquid protein items and may not be getting all the other vitamins and minerals necessary for proper life function.  this was what occured when many protein drinks came out on the market....they were just that...protein.  many people took nothing else into their body and ended up with major cadiovascular problems including heart attack due to their lack of essential nutrients.

moderation.....alllll things in moderation.

I like Propel Fitness Water, which is made by Gatorade.  A lot less sugar and a lighter flavor.

Phoenix2raven -> RE: Too much Gatorade better than too much water? (3/25/2007 6:46:28 PM)

The best drink "after scening" is a fresh fruit smoothie. Something disturbs me about all these sport drinks that contain sugar as a second ingredient. What ever happened to  good old fashioned fruit and water. I'm no pro at the sport drink thing but I do know that high fructose corn syrup is bad and it seems that most of the ones that convenience stores carry are the ones containing all the crap and to me they taste like chemicals. Fruit or fruit smoothies taste great and they contain the electrolytes are bodies need

MistressMoirae -> RE: Too much Gatorade better than too much water? (3/25/2007 7:21:36 PM)

I agree with you. Propel does not have corn syrup.
