DominaSmartass -> Sex induced yeast infection? (4/6/2007 9:45:53 PM)

I'm not trying to brag, but I recently suffered from what I think was a yeast infection caused by too much sex over a short period of time. I guess this is a risk/benefit of a long distance relationship. When you finally get together it can be rough. Very rough apparently. The day after he flew home I was really itchy. It lasted only a couple of days, 3 maybe. I never took any medicine or did anything but eat some yogurt. Anyone ever suffer something similar? I'm trying to figure out if it was really a YI or just "chafing". I did have some of the other symptoms of YI, but don't want to get too graphic. Basically, is it common for them to clear up on their own after only a couple of days? I have never had one before that I know of so I have no clue.

My yeast infections never made me have any symptoms except maybe a tiny bit of itching, I might of suspected one, but I never really had any idea untill a doctor did a smear and said yup yeast.I suppose to much good sex could give you one. They have these tablets called azo tablets, their supposed to treat and prevent yeasties, but before you try them I'd talk to the doctor.

My mom always said that once you get one diagnosed by the doctor then you don't really have to go back for more unless the symptoms get really bad.

I've never gotten a yeast infection, but my former long distance relationship would always leave me with urinary tract infections after his visit....

Why play with your health?  Doesn't make sense cause you are the most valuable commodity to Your Master.

The main thing i have always heard was to get the first one diagnosed and you'll be able to recognize the ones after....There are still so many other vaginal infections such as vaginosis etc. and no two are really the same.  Definitely get checked by your doctor.

Funny though, it makes me think of flesh healing after being damaged.....Mom used to always say, if it's itching that means it's healing.....Love ya Mom but whatever...

zindyslave -> RE: Sex induced yeast infection? (4/6/2007 11:01:36 PM)

Well, bacterial vaginosis has almost totally different symptoms. But as regards to the yogurt I was told before by a pharmisist that if I was to eat yogurt with the live cultures in them when taking anti biotics that it would prevent a yeast infections so I guess it is possible for that to work, but I have been told by an ob/gyn that if you or your partner has diabetes that it can give you yeast infections...I am prone to them for some reason so I have a lot of info that someone my age shouldn't have...but also if you got it after being with him he may have it and could be giving it to you and if you do get this cleared up and you get one again after being with him again then he would need to be treated also that is what had to happen after my last one me and Master had to be treated. Hope this information helped.

edited to add it could also be chafing and the itching could be because it was healing and that could also be why it went away after only 3 days without meds... Something I would ask the doctor about anyway.

That is a very good point zindy.
Yes, if you're always getting one after you have sex and not usualy before have him treated for yeast infection to.Women can give yi;s to their men and then get it back.

if youve never had a YI before, it is reccomended that you see an obgyn before treating it. after that [IME] i got the go ahead to treat them on my own in the future. i actually have those AZO and they work very well. i dont use them as preventitive but have used them to get rid of a YI just as fast as the 3 day treatment - if not faster.

does not help with itch, get some cream for that part.

NightWindWhisper -> RE: Sex induced yeast infection? (4/7/2007 3:11:12 PM)

Surficial yeast infections of the vagina are quite common.  The organism is Candida albicans. The smell if you swsih a finger is well, bread-like.  If it's not it could be BV and should be looked at.  Many women get recurring yeast infections which clear related to hormonal and (probably linked) pH changes in the vagina.  It's common to get a yeast infection after aggressive and or lots of sex activity over a short time.  Sometimes they clear in a few days, and other times require treatment.  Common treatment is an antifungal product you can buy at a drugstore.  I imagine these are miconozole or econozole products and should reduce symptoms very quickly (a day) but follow directions.  It may say not for mucosal use in which case don't use it.

Yeast occurs much the way bread yeast grows, by splitting, so one cell makes two, which makes four.  In fact I'm sure that one could swipe some, and place in in a bowl with a tablespoon of sugar, and half a cup of flour, plus a cup or two of water and keep it ~98 degrees and use it to make bread.  (Gross idea eh?  I'd bet that it'd make a decent tasting loaf, but I'm not going to try.  However yeast can do something else.  Under the right circumstances it can grow hyphae, or tendrils.  This is what mushrooms do, and if one digs under many mushrooms you find a matt of tiny white hypae.  In the vagina the immune system should immediately attack the hpyhae since they are invasive, and cause tissue damage.  (They actually penetrate into the skin, which the yeast mode sits on top of the tissue).  If you have a compromised immune system, or if you have recurrent YI's it probably is a good idea to have it checked out by a Practitioner.  There are stronger antifungal topical agents, and systemic (pill form) meds.

Interestingly Candida albicans has at least on one occasion gone hyphal, and produced a fruit (a mushroom) within the sinus of an advanced AIDS patient.  But that is quite extreme.  In is possible that the rough sex did chafe and remove some surficial tissue allowing hyphal formation, but being healthy your immune system probably stopped that rather quickly.  Usually we are tough organisms.

Your friend's penis probably can be cultured for Candida, but there is really no treatment that I know for males.  You could spray his dick with Miconazole nitrate spray (topical anti-fungal spray sold at pharmacies for jock itch or athletes foot (similar fungal organisms)).  If a male has an intact foreskin it is possible that he has a subclinical YI which does not bother him, but could initiate one in you.  All vaginas can culture Candida albicans as far as I know, it is part of our normal flora.  It is only problematic when the body let's it get out of hand.  If you do try this, buy a creme, not a spray.  The spray is alcohol based, and apt to burn.  If he has sub foreskin yeast problem I'd expect that when pulled back it'd smell yeasty.  It may be gross sounding to consider smelling such stuff, but in reality many bacterial and fungal infections have very distinctive smells, some identifiable at a long distance from the patient.

I've heard enough anecdotal evidence that yogurt douche, or eating yogurt is supposed to be helpful.  I have no clue about a yogurt douche.  But I have to wonder about the veracity of simply eating yogurt as there is (as far as I know) no way for the beneficial cultures (acidophilus or bifidus or others) to get from the stomach to the vagina, so it doesn't make sense to me.  But who know?

"Good" bacteria, found in yogurt with live cultures, fights off candida.  However, sugar feeds candida, and many yogurts are full of sugar.  My recommendation to anyone wanting to avoid antibiotics is:  Take probiotics (acidophilus, etc.), avoid sugar and fermented products, and avoid...well...yeast products. Vitamin C aids in immunity and fighting candida as well, so I would indulge on that, also.

During sex, were any lubricants or condoms used, or any sex toys? Allergies might be a factor to consider.

Quivver -> RE: Sex induced yeast infection? (4/7/2007 7:33:54 PM)

I have no proof of this, but over the years I had this happen occasionally with an ongoing partner.
After a while I started to realize it was because my PH was thrown off due to who ever else they had been with.  That was the only common thread I could find especially when I had been only with them.

the only question I have always had with this cure was this...if you eat the yogurt the acid in the stomache kills the bacteria...my OB/GYB when i was preggers with my first unmentionable tomld me to take a tsp of plain yogurt and put it up my whazoo to put some healthy bacteria back on track   ( i had an allery to the monostat the only treatmetnt that was available at that time)...well a tsp up my whazoo and around the outside cold and smoth it at least felt good...and  after a day or two it did the job....needless to say i havent been able to eat yogurt since...LOL  just the thought.....  but that is just my thoughts  and always contact a qualified MD or PA or NP  or CNM for assistance  just to make sure it was "justa yeast infection"  it could have been another STD  among them a mild case of  Herpes II

One should only put UNSWEETENED plain yogurt in ones body to treat a YI. Googling Yeast Infection Symptoms would give you a pretty detailed list of other symptoms.

If the symptoms went away, it probably just means that 1- it was a YI and your body got over it fast (lucky you when they hit me its rare but soooo itchy and burny and yucky) or that 2- you just irritated your skin and it was healing.

My gut tells me its probably option 2.

Buuuut it couldn't hurt for a visit to a planned parenthood or dr. etc etc.

Honeymoon cystitis...basically a UTI that occurs following lotsa nookie, tho it's generally an irritation of the urethra, not bladder.

This was my first thought as I was reading the original post, but assuming the "other symptoms of YI" are what I think they are, it probably is a yeast infection caused by his stuff throwing off the ph balance of your stuff.  They're generally not hard to self-diagnose and treat once you know what you're looking for.  But if the symptoms recur, do see your doctor.  Sometimes even 'just a yeast infection' can be stubborn.

Owned is correct about the sugar in most yogurts feeding the bad bacteria.  There are different strains of "good" or "friendly" bacteria that inhabit the body, fighting off the bad stuff and keeping things in balance.  It's best to use a full spectrum probiotic, especially if you are ill or if you are taking antibiotics.  But you need to take the probiotics in between the doses of antibiotics.  And truthfully, with the amount of stress and undiagnosed illnesses we face, taking probiotics regularly is a good idea for everyone, to help keep a healthy balance, which in turn helps to fight illnesses.
