i've had chronic yeast infections since i was born, some people are just more prone to them...actually my body can't manage itself at all, on any given day, if you did a culture on me, you'd find either too much yeast or bacteria, they just don't seem to balance. i noticed i was getting alot of discharge and irritation when i was having sex and just chalked it up to a yeast infection, but after years of this i knew that just couldn't be it. i talked to my NP in depth and was told that some women who's PH is very borderline anyway can end up with irritation due to her partner's fluids being more basic than her own more acidic fluids, and also from having more fluid all together...just like some women get irritated around their period from the constant wetness. those factors, along with the general irritation from friction can cause some problems. i've found that using the bathroom right after sex and using a water bottle (the kind with the pull up nipple looking top...that you can pull up with your teeth you know?) filled with warm water to wash the peri area to remove excess fluids and drying myself very well helps quite a bit. if i'm not somewhere that the squirt clean method is handy i always have femine hygine wet wipes on hand to clean up as best i can. cleaning and drying very well are for sure key. actually, if i really feel like i'm started to get really irritated, i'll take a quick shallow bath (no soap on the girl parts, or if you must, use baby soap and rinse well) and then i gently blow dry down there. it seems strange, but dryness is sooo important! as others have stated yogurt helps...but i'm lactose intolerant, so sometimes it doesn't agree with me so i just buy the actual "good bacteria" that are found in yogurt...take a couple of those every day and it's all good! also....very important...don't use anything around your genitals that has any form of sugar in it, any sweeteners of any kind, including some lubes and condoms, especially the flavored ones, those can make matters much worse! after 26 years of living in constant fear of infections i have other tips and tricks...but these are some good ones specific to this topic.
