Well, McCain can already say "gook" and get a pass on it, let's see if this one slides by too.

http://rawstory.com/news/2007/McCain_unplugged_Bomb_bomb_bomb_bomb_0419.html

Personally, I think telling the critics to "lighten up and get a life"
is a far more effective campaign approach.

It's called a joke.

Liberals know how to dish out insult after insult when it comes to Bush. But when a Republican makes a joke, the libs can't take it.

caitlyn -> RE: Bomb, bomb, bomb.. (4/20/2007 2:08:05 PM)

The joke is a lot funnier when Jay Leno says it, as opposed to someone running for President. [;)]

You know one of the things that made me instantly dislike Bush was this escapade on his part

quote:

In the week before [Karla Faye Tucker's] execution, Bush says, Bianca Jagger and a number of other protesters came to Austin to demand clemency for Tucker. "Did you meet with any of them?" I ask.
Bush whips around and stares at me. "No, I didn't meet with any of them," he snaps, as though I've just asked the dumbest, most offensive question ever posed. "I didn't meet with Larry King either when he came down for it. I watched his interview with [Tucker], though. He asked her real difficult questions, like 'What would you say to Governor Bush?' "

"What was her answer?" I wonder.

"Please," Bush whimpers, his lips pursed in mock desperation, "don't kill me."

You know there is a line between humor and being sadistic.

As far as McCain making fun of bombing people, I wonder if the same jokes were made about the USA how they would feel? Enough said.

UtopianRanger -> RE: Bomb, bomb, bomb.. (4/20/2007 2:21:05 PM)

I seriously have to laugh whenever I read anything about McCain. That guy is through  -- He doesn't have a chance in hell at becoming president. I live in a town that is virtual nest for repulicans, and they talk about McCain worse than they do Rosie O'donnell -- No joke.... from guns to illegals, he's a complete ''sell out'' to them.

He forgot there is really no such thing as a 'small' audience any more if you say something that controversial.  That's the only fault I see here.

Uhhh, Julia,  they've been chanting "Death to America" in Iran since people our age were in grade school.

Man that Wilson guy could write a catchy tune...  Bomb, bomb, bomb.. bomb bomb Iran...

I am all in favor of John McCain speaking his mind.  It shows the electorate the depth of his of his thought process.

And do you find it humorous when others sing chants wanting to kill us? Why is it funny when McCain sings such things, and yet if Hugo Chavez chanted about killing us that would be "evil". I am trying to understand the double standard here. I do not find it funny when people want to kill Americans, or sing about it. I do not find it funny when McCain does it and he is trying to become the elected president of the USA. It is extremely distasteful, how does one go from singing a song about bombing a country and then turn around and become the one that is supposed to help us be diplomatic about war? How does one accomplish this?

thompsonx -> RE: Bomb, bomb, bomb.. (4/20/2007 2:49:55 PM)

The only thing I have heard of Hugo Chavez saying about us was that bush & co. should stop trying to kill him or he may stop selling us oil.

Has it got a good beat you can dance to?

Where is your empathy now???  If you knew what it was like to be a veteran of combat and captivity, you might not be so quick to criticize.  But that is just my opinion, some of us are just more understanding and tolerant than others I suppose .

Hugo said these things in front of the UN general assembly. McCain said this in front of a group of war vets. The venue makes all the difference.

Being a POW certainly gives you a free pass to be somewhat squirrely, and if he wants that free pass he should continue on with what he is doing... being a little squirrely is not a terrible thing, but it makes his bid for the presidency lack any sort of serious merit... that is just my opinion though... we all have one.

I was using Chavez as a hypothetical. If you are aware of him wishing to bomb all Americans and making statements threatening American lives.... please furnish them for me, I must have missed those

TheHeretic -> RE: Bomb, bomb, bomb.. (4/20/2007 3:09:14 PM)

I'm starting to wonder now if it was really such a slip.  McCain has alienated himself from much of the Republican base in recent years.  Perhaps slapping the anti-war bundle is a tactic aimed at drawing those Democrats who can't stand what MoveOn and others are doing to their party.

     Just a thought

it does not matter to me personally as I think that both parties suck and are complicit in the war crimes that our country has committed... People should vote the way their hearts tell them. If a man a brick shy of a full load gets their vote... go them! Has no impact in the long haul.

Alumbrado -> RE: Bomb, bomb, bomb.. (4/20/2007 3:18:45 PM)

That spoof of 'Barbara Ann' came out in the 80s IIRC... and it was clearly an anti-war bit of sarcasm.
Interesting to note how many people are suddenly critical of such an anti-war jingle when partisanship dictates.

Much like the fabricated 'tar baby' flap, this is a pre election sheep round up.

And I hear lots of bleating.

juliaoceania -> RE: Bomb, bomb, bomb.. (4/20/2007 3:20:55 PM)

In the 1980s I was in high school and did not have many political opinions, nor am I familiar with your example. I am pro peace no matter what, and I am not a democrat

Rich:
Yup ol John sure is a combat vet.
It appears he that flew six missions before he got shot down the first time he encountered hostile fire.
