The first collar that my owner put on my neck was thick, leather, ringed, beautiful and very obvious. It had small name-plates. One had my name and the other said that I was his property. It is still a very beautiful collar but due to its design being very "in your face," it was only worn when we were not in the public view.
About 5 or more years ago, he purchased a simple, black, anodized aluminum collar that is in the form of a perfect circle. It has only come off once since the day he put it on and that was because I had to have an Upper GI and they couldn't see the barium through the metal. Strange as it sounds, I almost felt a sense of panic when he took it off and it was only for about 20 minutes. I felt naked.

What I like the most about it is that while is is hard, unyielding, and very much a collar, most people don't pay it much attention. It is black so it goes with everything and there is enough room beneath hit for him to curl his fingers around it and drag me wherever he wants me. *grin* Usually I wear a heart-shaped tag on it that says "Cav's girl" but sometimes its just the collar.
Anyway, I love knowing that it is always there, feeling it while I sleep, etc. I really do hope that it never has to come off again.
As for you being ungrateful, I suppose it would only mean that you were ungrateful if you actually were ungrateful *grins* and it certainly doesn't sound like you are. Like everyone said, your best bet is to talk to him about it.
