zindyslave -> RE: Sick to my stomach and emotional (4/28/2007 8:15:19 PM)

Well, I am not going to change the meds since they are working for me the way I need them, esspecially my bi-polar meds since they are tricky and getting off Lamictal isn't easy it has to be slowly eliminated from your system or things could get bad. And I don't think if it was the meds that I would get sick from smelling something. It is usually just the smell of cold food that makes me sick I can smell all kinds of other things without making me gag. But I like that metformin helps with infertility as there for a while I was trying to get pregnant without succeding so I think I will stick with that but for the time being get put on birthcontrol so I won't. Well, I know I could but it could decrease my chances. But as mentioned before not all pregnancy tests are 100% except blood as far as I know and blood may not be 100%. So, I am gonna see my doc soon so I can figure all of this out so I won't gag when trying to heat up leftovers the next day. Nausea is a side effect of almost all my meds but I eat with them and that helps the nausea I experience is different from what meds cause I can't explain it but I can't tell the difference. But I do think checking my Lamictal levels would be an excellent idea just to make sure that isn't causing it. Other than that I have no idea what it could be and it is kinda worrying me as of yet tho I haven't gotten sick since I really can't smell anything.

Zindy no reason to worry until you can see the doc and get another pregnancy test.

You could alw2ays stick a clothespin to your nose and elimanate the problem...but I don't think you'd be able to keep it there long. [:-]

Seriously though, k..one hurdle passed. You said your taking meds for insuline resistance...i'm assuming your diabetic then. May I ask what meds? My gf is diabetic and a lot of times the smell of food makes her sick. I could ask her about it.

You might wanna try not reheating leftovers for a while. Take about a month and eat only fresh food...no leftovers and see what happens.

Also when you see the doc again, discuss all of the meds your currently taking. It's possible one might be reacting with another.

Hopefully you can get to the bottom of this and feel better soon. Good luck hun and keep us informed.

zindyslave -> RE: Sick to my stomach and emotional (4/28/2007 10:58:15 PM)

No I am not diabetic, close but not quite. My body was making to much insulin for what sugar I was eating so the doc put me on Metformin and I am limiting my carb intake to try and lose weight (which should take away the insulin resistance). The clothespin thing would hurt a little too much for me.[:)] I can eat leftovers just can't smell them until they are hot again....weird huh? Both my docs know all the meds I am taking and I am sure one of them would have said something by now if they were reacting with one another.

HutchGarahl -> RE: Sick to my stomach and emotional (4/28/2007 11:45:06 PM)

Oh ok. I thought too much insuline was another form of diabetes. Sheesh, good thing i'm not a doctor. [:-]

Ok then..is there someone else is the home who could reheat your food for you?

All drugs checked and rechecked and nothing showing...hrrrmmm...me needs to think of other option now.

Don't worry hun, we'll get to the bottom of this and find a solution. Wether it be from someone here or your docs, but we'll get ya fixed up. [:)]

zindyslave -> RE: Sick to my stomach and emotional (4/29/2007 7:45:09 AM)

Well, from what the doc told me about insulin resistance is that I was making a lot of insulin and my body was using it like it should which is where the meds come in and help. If I had not caught this then it could have lead to type 2 diabetes which is why i have the diet and all that.
My Master/hubby is in the house he could help to heat them up, but since I am working we have an agreement on the days that I am off I do the cooking, cleaning, etc. So, he gets to rest esspecially since I am working almost everyday. But right now it isn't bothering me since I can't smell it which makes it not a problem for now. But I will have to make a doctors appointment and see what is up, and it could be the Metformin just because of how it works with my body. Who knows? lol

HutchGarahl -> RE: Sick to my stomach and emotional (4/29/2007 9:07:11 AM)

Ok then...for a while, on the days you cook...only cook fresh food, no leftovers. Give your system time to try and clear out what may be causing the nausia. As for anything else, we'll wait to hear what the doc says. [;)]

his2pet -> RE: Sick to my stomach and emotional (4/29/2007 9:16:00 AM)

Hey darlin', you need to check your sugar level.  Meds for insulin resistance do lower your blood sugar enough that it can cause symptoms of nausea and emotional upset.  They did for me the entire time I took them.  This being said you may need to reduce your dosage.  Talk with your endocrinologist.  But first, take that pregnancy test.  It is a hell of alot more convenient than making and waiting on a doctor's appointment.

zindyslave -> RE: Sick to my stomach and emotional (4/29/2007 10:40:10 AM)

his2pet the medicine I am on isn't the kind that can make your blood sugar drop like that, I asked my doctor because I was feeling the symptoms of low blood sugar and she told me that this medicine doesn't do that to you like others can and that I was just having to get used to lower blood sugar than what my body was used to handling which I have gotten used to it. And this is totally different from low blood sugar this is just at certain times...

windchymes -> RE: Sick to my stomach and emotional (4/29/2007 3:33:48 PM)

It's been days now....have you taken the pregnancy test yet?  Or did I miss it....?

zindyslave -> RE: Sick to my stomach and emotional (4/29/2007 5:32:36 PM)

Yes I took the pregnancy test, it was negative I posted it earlier I guess you missed it. I took it Saturday morning before work then posted about it after I got home from work..

windchymes -> RE: Sick to my stomach and emotional (4/29/2007 5:39:36 PM)

Oops, sorry then!  Well, you sure sounded pregnant! [:)]

zindyslave -> RE: Sick to my stomach and emotional (4/29/2007 6:20:21 PM)

Yeah I know and I still want to go to the doc and get a blood test because as HutchGarahl said they can be wrong esspecially if for some reason your body isn't producing enough of the hormone a pregnancy test uses to say you are pregnant. Blood test as far as I know are more accurate if not 100%. But if it turns out I am not then I will have to figure out what is wrong with me. It will probably confuse my doctor.

windchymes -> RE: Sick to my stomach and emotional (4/30/2007 1:41:59 PM)

I'm a medical lab tech by profession, and actually the urine tests are more accurate than the blood tests!  You'd think it would be the opposite, but the manufacturers of the test kits say no!  I forget the explanation why, I think it might be because the hormone is more concentrated in the urine than in the bloodstream, but I'll look it up tomorrow when I'm back at work.

And yes, it never hurts to retest if you're still having symptoms. False negatives happen all the time.  Make sure you use first morning urine.  It has the most concentrated hormone (hcg) in it.

Please don't assume that your doctors (especially when plural) will always know of side effects. Often they are not aware or don't think about it unless you specifically bring it up. If they don't know there is a problem it may be thought that you are doing fine, not that you may have a possible interaction problem.
So many drugs come out so quickly, it would be hard to assume that every doctor knows all possible cross reactions. You may want to get into the habit of researching your own prescriptions, sometimes it is as simple as a food not doing well with a drug.
People too, often forget to let their doctors know of herbal or homeopathic things. They are all chemical compounds remember.
Best of luck.

zindyslave -> RE: Sick to my stomach and emotional (4/30/2007 7:01:26 PM)

Well, I don't take any thing besides prescriptions so no herbal stuff here. My family doc is a CPA and so she has done lots of research since she has been seeing me since I am one of those people that have a lot of inheretited (sp?) diseases. So, she has learned alot I will be telling her about the Metformin being used for fertility too I don't want to go on bc because I think if I get pregnant it is because it is supposed to be and I don't want to try and prevent it but taking a drug for fertility will most likely up my chances but she might leave me on it since I am insulin resistant and it is the best med to take since it doesn't cause low blood sugar.  On to the pregnancy test I used first morning urine but if I got pregnant not to long ago it might not be concentrated enough, I would like to see the doc just to be sure tho since I am on bi polar meds and the doc doesn't want me to be pregnant and on this med so I am definately gonna have it checked more often.

KatyLied -> RE: Sick to my stomach and emotional (5/2/2007 9:57:52 AM)

If you want to know about drug interaction, you need to talk to a pharmacist.  And you should have all of your prescriptions filled at the same place.  Are you sure your nausea isn't a blood sugar problem?

zindyslave -> RE: Sick to my stomach and emotional (5/2/2007 4:00:10 PM)

I get them all filled at the same pharmacy. I don't really have low blood sugar and I am feeling better with the insulin thing. I woke up this morning and didn't want to eat but I had to, to take my meds so I guess we can add that to the list esspecially if this continues. The nausea I had was due to smelling cold leftovers and the nausea I had this morning was caused by....I don't know. Just the thought of eating was making me want to throw up. So, I am definately going to the doctor next week even if I have to get up early and go I will, I will probably head to the health department and get checked their it is probably quicker.

Zindy,
you mentioned your doctor is a cpa - certified public accountant?  i am confused.

By the way, doctors get real testy if you doubt them on things but you might ask in a nice way (smile) whether she has cross referenced the interactions on the drugs you are on.  i am on several medications and my doctor tells me she has to run a specific cross check before she changes any of my prescriptions which she did a couple of weeks ago.  i got two docs in my family so i can comment on them getting testy lol.

zindyslave -> RE: Sick to my stomach and emotional (5/2/2007 4:17:53 PM)

No in the doctor profession a CPA is a Certified Physicans Assistant. lol....I just read on WebMD that the blood tests are more sensitive than the urine tests and that some meds can mess with the test results of a urine test and since I am on Metformin which has been used as a fertility drug I need to get a test by the doc.
