Dominatrix, partner sentenced for promoting prostitution plan to file appeal

A Cherry Hill couple, who described themselves as a sex dominatrix and a dungeonmaster in a home-based business, were each sentenced Friday to two years of probation for promoting prostitution.
Dorina Pizio, known as Mistress Christianna, and Martin Hunsinger Jr. had lived quietly in their West Valleybrook Road rancher, near the township's Woodcrest community, until a visiting child died in their swimming pool in 1998.
Police investigating the death found a room filled with sex paraphernalia, including items used for bondage and torture.
Pizio and Hunsinger, who were married within the past year, said they plan to appeal the constitutionality of their sentence. After the proceeding, they said their business involved role playing but no sexual contact.
"I believe I didn't do anything wrong," Pizio, 52, told Superior Court Judge Frank M. Lario Jr. "I hope that my rights will be served and the Constitution upheld."
They pleaded guilty in January to promoting prostitution rather than face possible conviction on that charge along with endangering the welfare of a child - their own granddaughter - and tampering with a witness.
Pizio and Hunsinger were never charged with the drowning of 3-year-old Samantha Wann.
Samantha's body was found fully clothed on May 24, 1998, at the bottom of a 4-foot-deep, above-ground pool at the couple's home.
Michael J. Wann of Camden had left his daughter at the home while he allegedly went to buy drugs. He returned and later found his daughter's body in the pool.
CHERRY HILL, N.J. (AP) -- Authorities first entered the shabby white ranch house to investigate the drowning of a 3-year-old girl in a backyard pool. Inside, they found a sadomasochistic dungeon filled with whips, leather masks, a coffin and a guillotine.
They also found evidence of drug use and child abuse.
Michael Wann, who police said was taking PCP when his daughter drowned, is charged with child endangerment for leaving her unsupervised during the party Sunday. Prosecutors said Friday that the girl had been sexually assaulted before she died. The drowning investigation led to unrelated charges against the self-proclaimed dungeon master and dominatrix who live in the house. Martin Hunsinger, 51, is charged with child endangerment for strapping a 7-year-old girl to a wheel, beating her and showing her a sexually explicit video. Hunsinger's girlfriend, Dorina D. Pizio, 47, was charged with witness tampering for allegedly trying to persuade the 7-year-old not to cooperate with police.
The father of the drowned girl, Michael J. Wann, 38, formerly of Camden, pleaded guilty 2 1/2 years ago to endangering her welfare. His sentencing, for a prison term of up to five years, was delayed pending the outcome of criminal charges against the couple.
The couple's agreement with Assistant Prosecutor Howard Gilfert dismisses charges of endangering their granddaughter's welfare and attempting to influence her testimony.
It is a conditional plea because the couple said they would go to the state appeals court to determine if acts involving sadism and masochism are covered by laws against prostitution.
Martin Hunsinger, 56, and Dorina Pizio Hunsinger, 52, pleaded guilty earlier this year to charges of promoting prostitution. As part of a plea deal, child endangerment charges were dropped.
Superior Court Judge Frank M. Lario Jr. ordered Martin Hunsinger to complete 300 hours of community service and his wife to complete 180 hours.
The father, Michael Wann, 38, pleaded guilty in June 2000 as part of a plea bargain in which he agreed to testify against the Hunsingers.
"The services performed by Dorina Pizio with the defendants' clients included acts of domination and submission, sadistic and masochistic abuse, waxing, cross-dressing and infantilism," said Gilfert, who described her as a "dominatrix."

An autopsy showed evidence that Samantha had been sexually assaulted before her death.
Homicide investigators have determined that Samantha was pushed into the pool by a 7-year-old girl living in Pizio's house. No charges were filed against the 7-year-old, who is being supervised by the state's Division of Youth and Family Services. Authorities have alleged that Hunsinger once strapped the 7-year-old girl to a wheel and hit her with a belt, and allegedly showed her a sexually explicit movie

The state appellate court has upheld the conviction of a Cherry Hill couple who pleaded guilty to promoting prostitution, admitting they operated a sadomasochistic dungeon in a home.
Dorina Pizio, 53, and Martin Hunsinger, 57, formerly of the 1100 block of West Valleybrook Road in Cherry Hill, pleaded guilty to a third-degree charge of promoting prostitution in October 2000.
They were each sentenced to two years probation. They admitted they charged fees in exchange for providing sadism, masochism, bondage, domination and submission, cross-dressing and infantilism services to patrons who derived sexual pleasure from the activities.
Under the plea agreement, the defendants preserved their right to appeal the constitutionality of the state's Promoting Prostitution statute. In their appeal, they asked the court to find the statute unconstitutionally vague and too broad as it applied to their case, arguing that the statute "does not clearly prohibit the sadomasochistic acts - performed."
The Appellate Division rejected the defendants' claim. "As long as the sadomasochism is performed for sexual pleasure, then it is criminalized under the promoting-prostitution statute, when exchanged for money," the court wrote.
