I'm looking for information on if there is any "safe way" to use a Tens unit on the nipples. I keep hearing to only use below the waist but keep seeing references to it being used on the nipples in some stories and S/M publications. Is the placement of the pads the key and if that is the answer where should they be placed for maxium discomfort but with the least risk?

Check out Folsom Electric Company.  The PSG-MAX is designed for above the waist use.

The article here gives more info:  http://www.folsomelectric.com/UseChest.html

Tens units stimulate muscles...no muscles in the nips!  I would suggest a violet wand for effective electro nipple play!

If my erratic memory has not failed me, TENS is Transcutaneous Electro-Neural Stimulation.  It should work anywhere there are nerves.

Look for toys that are described as "Bi Polar".The current in these flows through whatever is between the two sides of the toy
Cheapest are clamps but there are others.
Try to avoid "Uni Polar"  toys above the waist-current may disrupt heart rhythmn. If you have a pacemaker avoid altogrther

Wow I'm impressed you knew that. I've never even heard the whole name before ;-). Thanks Quiet

I'd also like to say..
I'd agree I'd think it was way risky to use it on both nipples.
I don't care whatr type of polar it was bi or uni if a Dom tried to connect both my nipples with something more than a violet wand I'd probably safe word and never speak to him again for risking my life & health over something so trivial.
Actually I get very offended if ANY electro play with anything other than a violet wand is done above my waist period.
For example I was cattle prodded on my rib during a scene.
I ask him not to do that again, finished the scene, communicated how offended I was he'd hit me above the waist with electricity as a surprize without discussing it with me,  and never played with him again for being so careless IMO.
Electro play is indeed hot as all hell to me, but LIVING whole and healthy matters to me way more.

I have used My TENs unit for sore muscles in the back of My neck.
My physical therapist has seen it and doesnt think there is a problem with using it on My neck.
I dont use it on the chest area just because shit happens when you least expect it.

I dont have a violet wand,but I think I need one.

I use mine on the back of the next to, as well as shoulder blade area and mid back. Not sure I would try it on nipples though. I have good knowledge as to just how painful this little thing is if the knob gets turned too high. Not something i'd want to feel in my nipples! :P

greetings glynn,

most chiropractors use tens units above the waist, so i am sure it's safe to use them above the waist. i have had one used on my lower and upper back. that said, i am not sure about the safety of using it on the nipples. nevertheless, i think it's odd that someone told you it shouldn't be used above the waist...as that's one of its primary non-kinky functions.

annabelle.

The risk to the heart occurs when the current travels from one location to another, passing through the heart.  Connecting to any parts of the body where the current CAN go through the heart is dangerous.  Having said that, TENS units (and other electrical stim devices) may be used on the nipples if, and only if, the complete electrical circuit does not pass through the heart.  Therefore, both of the contacts of one complete circuit may be placed right at a nipple.  The current will take the path of least resistance, and in this case, right through the nipple.  The sensation can be mild to wild, depending on the mood of the Top!  It would be unsafe to put one lead on the nipple, and the other lead any significant distance away, as the electricity may find its way through the heart.  Pictures you may of seen of genuine electrical torture of the nipples would have been set up to have an isolated circuit passing through one nipple only.  Another completely separate circuit could be used on the other nipple.

I've used my tens on both nipples before i learned it could be dangerous.  I had no ill effects and loved the sensation but if it could cause a problem i wouldn't advise both nips at once.

I have only experience a TENS on one nipple at a time, and loved it.  No issue here.

It takes 500 ma directly across the heart to cause a problem.  Check your tens unit output.  Mine caps out at 250 ma.  So it would be safe to use above the waist, no problem, as long as there isn't a pacemaker.

That being said.  A lead attached to each nipple won't produce the sensation you are looking for.  When good contact is made, a tens creates sensation between the points of contact.  So, you would feel it more across the chest than in the nipple.  Instead try hooking a lead on each side of the nipple.  Many TENS units have 2 channels, so you can attach a pair of leads to each nipple (just make sure they are on the same channel).  That should be closer to the desired sensation.
Alternatively, you can attach one lead to your partner (inner thigh is good because of the proximity of nerves), and attach one to your wrist.  Now, when you touch your partner, the shock is at the point of contact (because the contact isn't perfect there).  There is a good chance that you will feel it just as much as your partner.  To prevent this, hold something metal, and touch them with that.  A nail will do.  Since you have firm, good contact with the piece of metal, but your partner has intermittent contact, they will feel all of the shock.  Use a little water to increase conductivity.

Most Tens units come with black and red wires. Black for minus and Red for positive. All you have to do is remember to keep the same color for the nipples.

A good choice would be red for the nipples, thats chans. 1 & 2 for the nipples and hook both blacks to the clitty. The minuses are common anyway. In this instance wrap some soft aluminum wire around clitty and clip the black leads to the aluminum...  Apply the red clips as desired.

When the electrical pulses are adjusted and applied you can see the muscles in the abdomin tense and ripple, but nothing in the chest area.  The point bein, KEEP THE FLOW OF CURRENT FROM CROSSING THE CHEST.

I have had them used on both nipples simultaneously.  It created quite intense sensations no different than other areas of my body.  As far as safety the only thing I have heard from my doc is to not use it over the left side of the chest wall while having another pad over the heart.
