Well, in that case, before it submits, it better learn all about red flags and evil doms, etc.

Damn!  Got me there.  Of course, if it looks like a duck, waddles like a duck and quacks like a duck, it just may be submissive.

Shit, i can't be a submissive then. Depending on the time of day i might  look like a girl or a grease monkey or a mud puppy, walk like a 110 year old until after i get out of the hot tub, and have been told there are times i sound like a cat in heat.

Anybody know where there are classes starting in duckliness?

See, now I am going to have to change the way I look at things!

Honestly though, it's not the first time that I have heard someone equate actions to be submissive/non-submissive. I think that some people DO view things such as gardening, sewing and cooking as acceptable or typical things a submissive would do. I know that I have had more than one eyebrow raised at me when I say that I like to hunt, fish, camp and hike.....and I can chop a cord of wood with the best of them. I don't expect or need a man to protect me, mow my lawn, put oil in my car, plow my drive, frame out a garage for me or hang drywall. Maybe what saves me is that I do like some more traditional "girly" things too?

Lol, good morning, i think you might be right about doing the more girly things being a saving grace, for both of us.

When i read Ghita's post about hunting with her dogs i thought about you right away.

Then again there are those who deeply appreciate all those other un girly things we can do greatly.

ok I was thinking that if I ever get to a place on this journey of mine where I rejoin the meat market as "seeking", I will have to redo my profile and it would probably be wise to put a bit in there about not being what is "conservativly" thought of as a submissive, lol will not bother now ... *wonders what she was thinking* ... Like our wise mistoferin I enjoy the outdoor life, can split my own wood, use a chainsaw, mow my own lawn, change my own tyre and oil, I also can drive a truck and a tractor, and I feel comfortable in steelcap boots. I will add that I can barely cook and hate gardening with a passion! I identify as submissive and hey if I am not your cup of tea, I wish you well ... move along.

I would like to offer a thought on one thing submissives have in common, we like Dominant partners? ...

A "typical" submissive?  Typical: Exhibiting the qualities, traits, or characteristics that identify a kind, class, group, or category.  Well, the first thing I learned when defining submissives or Dominants in this lifestyle is that there are as many definitions as there are people who give them.  I would say that since the definition of submissive is "inclined or willing to submit" then a "typical submissive" is someone inclined or willing to submit to anothers control.  Though, in this lifestyle I have seen many a sub who tops from the bottom.  I've seen submissives that only submit in the bedroom and run life outside of the bedroom.  If  you really wish to delve deeper into the subject then most Dominnats only rule by the guidelines the submissives set for their participation.  From that veiwpoint, then Dominants submit to the control of the submissive.  What's my point?  Dominant and submissive are just terms we, in the community, use to define our roles in relationships.  So don't fret your little head over anyone else's definition.  What is important is to define the submissive YOU want to be and make sure you find a Dominant that is looking for YOUR definition of a submissive.  That is the only way relationships last in this lifestyle.

Oh, by the way, if you really want to start a brew-ha-ha then ask the difference between a submissive and a slave.   Nothing causes more controversy then someone who calls themselves a slave but behaves in a way others define as merely submissive.

What is your idea of a "typical" submissive?

define "typical" because this question sounds as if you're looking for the en totem agreement of the "do's and don'ts" of a submissive ...in other words A REAL/TRUE/TWUE submissive does this, that and the other.

give me a break

there's NO true/twue or "typical" anything - it's solely between you and yours just as it's between Daddy and i

1.
of the nature of or serving as a type or representative specimen.

2.
conforming to a particular type.

4.
characteristic or distinctive: He has the mannerisms typical of his class.

5.
pertaining to, of the nature of, or serving as a type or emblem; symbolic.

You could probably find a 'typical' sub / slave theory by doing a big survey of them i would imagine. However in my opinion you would find very few who would then fit every criteria on the list of a 'typical sub / slave.

As for the word typical....now why would we want to be that?

As for the similarieties in submittion, we all submit. But there is such a big diffrnece on how each of us submit that is really can't be defined in a few sentences.

ooh wow....did I start a whole new thread? yay me!....heres what I said and what followed:

I havent read all the replys.....but who said subs actually had to need defending? Since when is it my Sirs responsibility to fight my battles for me? Now, this is probably just me, and Im the first to admit Im more than a little bit redneckish....but Ive been crawling around the woods since I was crawling, learned to shoot when I was 8, fought on the wrestling team in high school, hunt, fish, and belch with the best of yall guys, Ive wrestled wild hogs to the ground (with a little help from my wonderful amazing better than anything 120lb bulldog), and if I pick a fight with someone in a bar, you can bet my Sir is gonna order another beer and sit back to watch. He may even start some bets on the side...who knows....

Now, say we were actually attacked out somewhere, I can guarentee you that I know my Sir would put his life on the life to defend me in any way possible, and after 24 years of combat training, I am pretty darn sure he could defend me against most anything, but we both know...who ever gets the first clean shot takes it...Im not gonna go hide because Im a sub.

ORIGINAL: Bobkgin

Are you intentionally suggesting this is a profile of the average sub/slave? (o.O)

Because it certainly isn't typical of anyone I've met.

Is he saying Im not typical? I know Im not typical..part of what I love about me...but I truly dont think that I have to be typical to be a sub......being typical would be boring.

ORIGINAL: mistoferin

I have to wonder what "typical" would be. Honest question. Is there a stereotypical view of what a "typical" submissive is. Must one be meek and particpate only in womanly activities?

I know a LOT of submissives and I can't think of any common denominators....other than submission...that they all possess. I don't think that I could define a "typical" submissive. Some of them are very prissy and wouldn't be caught dead doing anything that might get them a blister or get their hands dirty. Some are hard working business women. Some have physical labor jobs. Some like to knit, sew and make cookies. Some like to ride motorcycles and get greasy. Some couldn't fight their way out of a wet paper bag....and some are a force to be reckoned with. And then there are some (myself included) who are a bit of a blend of it all. Typical? I'm not sure what that is.

Gads I hope I got all the quote thingys right! jeesh!

Anyway....like I said, Im not even a typical "girl" much less a typical submissive...the only thing that makes me a typical submissive is that I erhm.....submit......gee, kinda a no-brainer there. Other than that, submissives are as diverse as any other group of people out there, and there is no "one twue rulebook" out there saying subs have to do anything other than submit at some point and on some level to be called submissives

Apart from the desire or inclination to submit, whether it be genuine or just a need/want to ACT that way, I cannot think of a typical submissive trait.  The minute you think you can spot one, after dealing with several submissives who share the trait, is the minute you run into one who does not share that trait and yet who, in every other way, comes across as submissive.
