Honestly though, it's not the first time that I have heard someone equate actions to be submissive/non-submissive. I think that some people DO view things such as gardening, sewing and cooking as acceptable or typical things a submissive would do. I know that I have had more than one eyebrow raised at me when I say that I like to hunt, fish, camp and hike.....and I can chop a cord of wood with the best of them. I don't expect or need a man to protect me, mow my lawn, put oil in my car, plow my drive, frame out a garage for me or hang drywall. Maybe what saves me is that I do like some more traditional "girly" things too?

i can relate.  i love to garden and sew and cook but, that has nothing to do with my submissive nature.  Many Doms and "manly men" enjoy those things, too.  my first Dom was an excellent cook.  He taught me how to cook, especially Italian dishes.  He was an Italian who was raised on the tough streets of Newark, NJ and didn't back down to no one.

Ever hear of Rosey Grier?  He was an All-Pro defensive tackle with the New York Giants and the leader of the "Fearsome Foursome," with the the Los Angeles Rams, acclaimed by experts as being the best defensive line in football.  Rosey Grier stands 6'5" and weighs approximately 300 pounds.  He's no "shrinking violet" and one of his favorite past times is doing needlepoint.  He says it relaxes him.

i also love the outdoors.  Growing up in north central California, i spent more time hiking and tent camping in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, as i did anything else.  i also spent 12 years in the Army, in a male dominated field, and had to do my own vehicle maintenance, including changing the oil in my trucks and jeeps, along with changing and rotating the tires, etc.

These activities, to me, having nothing to do with being submissive or Dominant.  You don't need to have a submissive character to enjoy household chores, such as cooking, and just because you are submissive doesn't mean that you can't enjoy rugged, dirty, "tough" activities like working on cars or wilderness camping.

If there is a "typical" submissive (or, a typical anything), which i don't believe there is, i know that i am not one.  i know that i am one of a kind and some people like my unique qualities and some people don't.  i don't try to please everyone.  i only strive to please One, my Master.

Some activities that i do associate with submissiveness would be, kneeling (especially when at another's feet), bending over (especially when exposing a bare bottom), crawling, lowering head until told to look up, etc.

Just my views......

Um... typical?  Why erin - you just gone dun this now hey...
A 'typical' submissive person (or animal or machine) is one that submits at some point in some way.
Anything else is subjective.

and here I thought the special thing about being a  submissive to subs was that they are rather Atypical, not of the norm, and in My eyes a sub is like a snowflake, each one a delight in its own way, and in some way very unique unto itself. I am not going into the whole "No 2 snowflakes are alike" bit, as this is taking it beyond, and quite frankly 2 submissives could very well be like-like mannered, trained, and suited. Now twin submissives on the other hand!

Are you guys suggesting that the description on pages iv and v are not accurate?  No wonder I  do so bad in finding a typicsl sub

I did spot a clue to the validity of the comment, though!  Thanks Ghita I was beginning to wonder if someone had actually meant it seriously.

Isn't a typical sub someone who is unable to make decisions; in constant need of a dom on white charger to save her from a myriad of mistakes; weak and feeble; colour blind to red flags and deaf to alarm bells?

That's IT!!!!!!!!!!!!

Seriously...I thought I may have had it pegged when I found out that mist did not have the fine taste to appreciate a certain Coloradan delicacy...and another submissive did not...and I knew that almost every one of the submissives I knew did not but then...~snaps fingers~...I thought of one who did.  ~siiiiiiiiiighs~  There went that theory...

Sir,
I would venture that the reason you are experiencing difficulty locating a "typical" sub is your ignorant veiw point. By assuming that every sub is weak witted and instable you have created your own handicap. If you yourself judge a sub to be this way (and beleive me, on this site you would not be alone) then your expectations fall short of the reality of what a good sub may be.
I have been criticized in the past by other Doms who are intimidated by a "thinking" slave. I was lucky enough to find a Master who values me for the person I am, and will become. Subs are not necessarily doormats, they can be thinking, functioning people who find that they enjoy giving up the control as much as a Dominant enjoys assuming the control. Without one you cannot have the other. I have met many, like myself, who enjoy the creative side of servitude and the challenges it presents. Slave does not have to be a demeaning term, and I firmly beleive that this may be where your confusion lies.

joy, I believe that Jayxkes' quote was intended to be humor.

Erin,
I do hope it is humor. Unfortunately, I have spoken with many (and deleted many from my bulk mail bin) that have his veiw. I wish I could say that everyone has a clear idea of what this lifestyle encompasses, but sadly it is as solid as the tides. Ever changing attitudes and values are pervasive, and we are all just driftwood. Hmmm... I waxed poetic there for a moment.
Best wishes,
Master's girl-joy

domiguy, I set here drinking my coffee, it's 7am on a thursday morning. I am reading these posts. I get to yours, And i sprayed my coffee everywhere, you had me laughing so hard. Thanks it was just what i needed this morning. Oh & i have absolutely no doubt that i am crazy. Its all in how i display my craziness to others thats key.

And in addition to answering the OP, I by no means find myself to be a typical sub. I think we all have very different unique qualities to us. We are people you know, human nature defines every single one of us. Maybe i will start a school for submissive girls who want to be trained. Emplore all of the Masters & Dom's to be our teachers. If we all were taught the same things & had the same experiences then maybe then we could be called typical. All lined up in a row on our knee's. Crawling acroos the room to recieve our diploma to show we are now indeed typical subs. After taking it in our teeth, receiving a whip to our ass, out the door to our awaiting futures.

Sorry for getting off topic here .. but it had me thinking
