Aylee.....we had a seat that went from 0-4years old.....and my son could get out of it from the time he was 1 on....actually, he'd just take his arms out from under the shoulder straps.....fortunately, he never stood up in it......but what was funny was if anyone got into the car and didn't put THEIR seat belt on, he was all over them about it!  Whomever devises a buckle on those things that is impervious to a 1 year old will die a zillionaire......

Aylee...there is a slider bar/clip (for lack of a better term) that will bring the straps closer together toward her neck.  Push that up and she cannot get the straps down. If she tries to lower the slider bar/clip you can block it with those heavy duty black paper clamps (one on each strap)

Yes, she can lower the slider bar. . . I will have to get some of those clips!  Great idea, THANKS!

It was okay during the winter, because I would zip up her coat or jacket over the straps.  But it is a bit warm now to be making her wear a jacket.

Ok, folks, about the escape act from the car seats...this old grandma has a solution that worked for her...it takes a little time and patience but here it is...

Don't say a word (absolute silence).  Pull over and stop the car.  Put the straps back the way they belong.  And continue on your way.  Repeat as needed.

It is labor and time intensive at first, but will pay off in the long run.  You will start seeing the arms go back where they belong on their own after several iterations.  And then you won't see the arms come out any more.

It is helpful to have a soft toy or a book to occupy them.  Sing songs together.  You may need an extra mirror to see what is going on.

You are the driver and responsible for their safety. You are the adult they are the children.  You are the boss.

oh Lord Fluff...i have to argue this point INTENSELY!!!!!!!!!

the issue here is that child will learn very quickly to hid their escape attempts from the adults. They will slip their tiny upper bodies out of the safety straps and not let anyone know about it. What would happen to them in the event of an accident or even a sudden stop in the stuff nightmares are made of.

As parents we have the responsibility to do everything in our power to prevent the lil angels from getting out of those safety straps in the first place, which is why i suggested the paper clamps, or even sewing a button dead center in the middle of the strap to prevent the slide bar from being lowered.

Getting on and off the highway to keep buckling the baby back in is a dangerous thing. Not only that...how many times would you find yourself taking your eyes off the road to keep checking if they are still secured in their seat?

When I was taking the LoudOne to a special school in this area i saw a sight i will never, ever forget. The school dealt with alot of head trama cases with little ones. An ambulance was bring a child in as an in-patient. He was the same size/age as the LoudOne..wearing a Halo brace (broken neck) and non-responsive. He looked so tiny on that stretcher. His dad was getting out of the ambulence along with him. A sadder man you would never want to see. I just caught a glimpse of this baby...then pulled the LO back so they could get through the doors unobstructed.

I never forgot this kid, the entire time the LO was being treated there for his sensitivity issues.

On our last day there i took a doll with me. It was a Beanie Baby that was given to my late husband when we were awaiting a transplant. It was a Teddy Bear, kneeling in prayer, and it's name was Hope. I felt it was time to pass tiny Hope on.
I had called some of the patient floors, hoping to find out this childs name, but got no where. So many kids fit his discription. I told my best friend i did not think i was going to get the Hope doll to him and her response: "Take the doll with you. God will find him."
I took the LO in for his final evaluation that day with little Hope in my purse. I told his therapist about wanting to find this child and she asked a few of the other workers there and they were able to locate him!! The doll was taken to his room and given to his dad.
The dad was assured his name and circumstances were not disclosed, no violation of the HEPPA act, and the dad, through tears, told them they could tell me anything.

I really did not want to know anything about them, other than the little boys condition, but i was told he was hurt in a traffic accident. His mother was killed instantly, and he suffered a broken neck due to the safety straps being somehow twisted.

The dad was given the gift of a tiny doll that day...my gift came a few months later when, by chance, i happened to be reading the newspaper and saw a tiny article that this child (i was told his name) was nearly fully recovered and went home!!!!!!!!!!

There are moments that change our lives, and seeing that baby on a stretcher was one that changed mine. I cannot say how often i think of him, and his mom. She put him in his car seat that day, just as i do with the LO. She was driving along, chatting to and listening to her son, just as i do with the LO. And then it was over.
You better believe i check and recheck those safety straps on the car seat...at every red light, every oppertunity i have.

Sorry this is so long.....

yes Aylee I have been journallying

Are you serious about the car seat? it is a forward/reverse facing seat - it reclines like an infant set. has cup holds. As the kid get bigger it goes from car seat to booster seat by just removing the ties. It has NEVER been in an accident. You can even extend the back if they are too tall but don't weight enough to get out. It is rated for 80 pounds. If you want to look it up online, it is called a Cosco Juvenile. This is very silimar to what I have. Rachel grew so fast it was hardly used .[link=http://www.coscojuvenile.com/usa/eng/Products/For-Travel/Car-Seats/Convertible-Car-Seats/Details/1984-22126RDS-Scenera#0174-Convertible-Car-Seat]

Your's for free if you want it :)
