You are such an angel yourself, Holly......I'm so glad the story had a happy ending.

I have seen too many times where if a child had been in the seat like they were supposed to be, the child would have survived what is usually termed a mild crash, but when loose inside the vehicle, the child becomes a missle. And I have seen phtots from accidents where the child survived, still buckled into the carseat, but the seat was thrown out of the vehicle. Maybe a little bruised, maybe some cuts, but alive well enough to be screaming bloody murder!

One other thing to remember about seats...make sure the child actually fits in it...my neice was thrown into a windshield during a crash when she was thrown out of the seat because she was too small physically for the seat. My sister thought since she was in the age range, the weight didn't mean anything.....yeah, she's not the brightest bulb in the box!

My pet peeve is parent's who buckle all the kids in, and then fail to buckle themselves in! DUH! And those who let them ride in the beds of pickup trucks...they do it all over down here.....and the kids are sitting on the wheel wells, for God's sake...one good bump, and they are bounced right out into traffic.....

OK...sorry about the rant....it's a sore spot w/me. But for those who still have wee ones, most police and fire departments will install/check your seats to make sure they are in correctly.....just call the non-emergency number and ask if they have the program. (I mention the non-emergency number only because idiots call 911 for this alot!)

the issue here is that child will learn very quickly to hid their escape attempts from the adults. They will slip their tiny upper bodies out of the safety straps and not let anyone know about it. What would happen to them in the event of an accident or even a sudden stop in the stuff nightmares are made of.

As parents we have the responsibility to do everything in our power to prevent the lil angels from getting out of those safety straps in the first place, which is why i suggested the paper clamps, or even sewing a button dead center in the middle of the strap to prevent the slide bar from being lowered.

Getting on and off the highway to keep buckling the baby back in is a dangerous thing. Not only that...how many times would you find yourself taking your eyes off the road to keep checking if they are still secured in their seat?

i understand you don't like my success. i said it worked for me.

The roads i was traveling, the other occupants in the car, etc. contributed to my ability to use this method.

Of course i used all the clips and straps on the things. Yes, i did emphasize in my post that the driver was responsible for safety.

i intended it as a suggestion ... to share what worked for me. It DID work. i know i'm a grandmother and i don't count any more.

i'm feeling really bad right now, so i'll shut the fuck up.
